Folkestone Isn't a Typical Seaside Town
Watch a quick guide to the work of the Creative Foundation and its five projects.
15 Years of Folkestone Creativity
The Creative Foundation is 15 years old. What we have achieved during that time has only been possible because of the seemingly limitless time, energy and creativity which has been poured into the Creative Foundation by our tenants, artists, collaborators, performers, audiences and friends since 2002.
We are delighted to present this film on the occasion of our 15th birthday with thanks to all who have contributed to making Folkestone a remarkable place to live, work, study, play and visit.

FOLKESTONE - (UK VLOG)
As wise people in my village say that Volkestone is a port town on the English Channel, in Kent, south-east England, UK. The town lies on the southern edge of the North Downs at a valley between two cliffs. It was an important harbour and shipping port for most of the 19th and 20th centuries. Now is not, now is what it is, just yet another interesting little town. It's shame that there is not so much sun and the days are so short so in general going anywhere at 11AM is pointless waste. Like a life, is a waste. Interesting fact is that nearby this town there is this thing: The project cost £4.65 billion (equivalent to £12 billion today), 80 per cent more than expected. Construction took six years (1988-1994) -

Folkestone Camping and Caravanning Club
Overlooking the beach and set amongst the famous White Cliffs of the Dover-Folkestone Heritage Coast, there’s nothing quite like waking up at Folkestone Club Site. Glorious sea views come as standard, and there are plenty of scenic walks on the doorstep too. Spend a little time exploring The Warren, a local nature reserve that’s home to more than 150 species of rare flowers and birds - you can even book onto a guided tour during the summer months. Or follow one of the paths directly from the campsite to visit the town of Folkestone and its bustling Creative Quarter. If you’re staying awhile, nearby Kent Downs offers a myriad of walking and cycling trails, or head further a field and spend the day exploring the spectacular cathedral city of Canterbury. Folkestone is a well-equipped and comfortable campsite with spacious pitches and modern facilities, and it’s in an excellent position if you’re planning to explore the South Coast of England or continue your travels across the Channel to France.

FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL: Ep 6 - What Is This?
With just 52 days to go until the launch of Folkestone Triennial 2017 we are delighted to share episode 6 of Bob and Roberta Smith’s 'FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL' film series. In 'What Is This?' Bob discusses the importance of material experience and how we experience the world.
By building a boat out of concrete, Bob creates an artwork that although looks like a boat, will never float. Even if it really wants to! It is an artwork that is not broken, but will never work.
We take a quick look at the ingredients used historically to create a varied paint pallet and even have time for a spot of beach combing to discover materials that tell their own stories!

Folkestone 2009
Folkestone is a town whose name is historically synonymous with all that is prosaic and predictable about UK seaside resorts. Unfairly, as it turns out, for the last five years have seen this coastal town transformed at every level by the philanthropy of Roger De Haan and the Strange Cargo arts team. The trip here on the train from London at the beginning of the last century took 63 minutes. Nearly a hundred years later today it takes nearly two hours. From December 2009, a new high speed link will zap the time down to just over three-quarters of an hour from St Pancras. Quicker on some days than it would take you to get to the Cork Street galleries up in town. How has Folkestone changed so quickly in just five years, and where is it headed in the next five?
