Sydney Birding Hotspots - #5 Sydney Olympic Park
Next up in my 'Sydney birding hotspots' series. Sydney Olympic Park.
The Bicentennial Park in western Sydney is one of the best bird watching spots in Sydney. Part of the Sydney Olympic Park, it lies on the shore of Homebush Bay and comprises 40 hectares of mangroves, woodland and grassy lawns.
The numerous ponds and creeks in the park provide habitat for an impressive array of waterbird species and the forested areas are home to an equally impressive variety of forest birds. The park is easy to explore and doesn’t get crowded even on weekends.
To see the incredible diversity of birds in Sydney Olympic Park, check out Badu Mangroves, Coastal marsh and Waterbird Refuge habitats.

Sydney Birding Hotspots - #1 Oatley Park
The first in my series of videos highlighting the best birding and wildlife spots near Sydney.
Hurstville council says: As one of Sydney's finest areas of natural bushland, Oatley Park is noted for its trees, shrubs and native flowers, as well as the river beaches and prolific bird life.
I look forward to reading your comments.

Birds of Sydney Park
Sydney Park is a 40 hectare green space created from old brickpits subsequently used as a landfill site. The park is sandwiched between the city's Southern Industrial Area and the densely-populated suburbs of Newtown, Erskineville, Alexandria and St Peters.
The park is a masterpiece of urban green space design incorporating the city's biggest stormwater recycling scheme which maximises the wildlife habitat potential of the park's wetlands.
As at 2018, around 70 bird species have been recorded in the park. Some species are full-time residents, some are transients, and for some it's a seasonal destination with a couple of species arriving from Japan and Siberia.
The park's wetlands are especially valuable because freshwater wetlands are a rare thing along Australia's east coast.

I spent a long weekend in Sydney in January and, even as an Aussie, I never fail to be enchanted by its stunning harbour. I could spend all day watching the boats and foot traffic go by... and almost did! Discover my city tips from many visits below.

Sydney Birding Hotspots - #3 Long Reef Aquatic Reserve
Next up in my 'Sydney birding hotspots' series. Long Reef Aquatic Reserve.
Highlights include Cormorants, Australasian Darter, Pelican, Oystercatcher, Terns and more.
Long Reef Aquatic Reserve is the oldest aquatic reserve in NSW and is centred on the extensive intertidal rocky shores that fringe the prominent Long Reef headland.
A diversity of marine life is associated with the range of rocky shore habitats and different degrees of wave exposure around the headland.
The aquatic reserve also includes Fishermans Beach at Collaroy, a sheltered sandy beach on the northern side of the headland, the very exposed and rip-dominated northern end of Long Reef Beach, and some very small areas of sandy beach in amongst the rocky shore on Long Reef headland itself.
The reserve is also an important site for many species of migratory shorebirds

Sydney Birding Hotspots - #4 Field of Mars Reserve
Next up in my 'Sydney birding hotspots' series. Field of Mars reserve.
One of my favourite locations to see Kookaburras.
Several species of watercirs a present, as well as Currawongs, Ibis, Rosellas and many more.
The Field of Mars Reserve is a protected nature reserve located in the north–western suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The 50 Hectare (123.5 acres) reserve is a remnant of bushland situated between the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers within the suburb of East Ryde and near Gladesville, Hunters Hill and Ryde.

By Bus from Sydney to Brisbane (1951) - Department of Public Instruction Queensland
Produced in 1951 by the Department of Public Instruction Queensland with the cooperartion of Ansett Travel Service, this film sets out to track a journey from Sydney to Brisbane. The film compromises of several aerial shots, especially of Sydney from the 1950s, but predominantly we follow a bus as it travels up the east coast of Australia.
From Sydney, we then get glimpses of Gosford, Newcastle Port Macquarie, Taree, Kempsey Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Lismore, Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads in New South Wales before entering Queensland through Coolangatta. The bus continues on to Brisbane through the Gold Coast.
This video has a fantastic portryal of Australian coastal towns, including holidays resorts, infrastructure and farmland during the 1950s.
