Walking Camara De Lobos to Praia Formosa Funchal Madeira
We took the bus ( really cheap 2-3 Euro ) to Camara De Lobos and Cabo Girao twice and on both occasions we walked back along the coastal walkway from Lobos to Praia Formosa beach and then climbed up on to the Estrada Monumental because you can't get through along the beach. ( We wanted to get back to our hotel at Ajuda beside the Madeira Forum shopping Centre. )
This is a pleasant sea walk of around 6-8km away from all the traffic noise. It took us well over an hour but then we weren't in any rush and I was always stopping to video or use the binoculers. Unfortuantely the Doca do Cavacas tunnel wasn't open when we were there. We just hopped down on to the pebble/stoney beach and then rejoined the path 200m on by climbing back over. Interesting views, rock formations, oil terminal, boat yard, causeway, cliffs, kestrels and climbs all add to the adventure.
