We decided to visit Foxton Locks! It's a really cool place in Leicestershire where you can see a staircase of canal locks, enjoy the sun and drink at the pub! There are also shops nearby too!

Foxton Locks (grid reference SP691895) are ten canal locks consisting of two staircases each of five locks, located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough. They are named after the nearby village of Foxton.
They form the northern terminus of a 20-mile summit level that passes Husbands Bosworth, Crick and ends with the Watford flight
Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, built in 1900 to resolve the operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for ten years. It was dismantled in 1926, but a project to re-create it commenced in the 2000s, since the locks remain a bottleneck for boat traffic.

Foxton Locks built in 1814 are the largest flight of staircase locks on the English canals. The locks, near the village of Foxton, are two sets of five locks each forming a staircase to climb a steep hill on the Grand Union Canal about three miles (5 km) west of Market Harborough, Leicestershire; the time taken for a narrow boats to move up the staircase locks and climb the 75 feet (23 metres) is around one hour.

A Visit to Foxton Locks - Leicestershire
I visited Foxton Locks in Leicestershire to explore the ten canal locks that make up the longest flight of locks in Britain.
Located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough the locks are named after the nearby village of Foxton.
My film joins a narrow boat (Calmer Karma) as it makes it way to the top lock before taking in the scenery along the canal side.

Staircase locks are used where a canal needs to climb a steep hill, and consist of a group of locks where each lock opens directly into the next, that is, where the bottom gates of one lock form the top gates of the next. Foxton Locks are the largest flight of such staircase locks on the English canal system. The Grade II listed locks are a popular tourist attraction and the county council has created a country park at the top. At the bottom, where the junction with the arm to Market Harborough is located, there are two public houses, a shop, trip boat and other facilities. Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, an inclined plane built in 1900 as a solution to various operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and remained in full-time operation for only ten years. Today we leave Market Harbour and retrace out steps down the arm. Jo and George take a short cut to avoid some of the twists and turns of the canal.
Foxton Locks are buzzing, It's a busy spring, Sunday lunchtime, and the Foxton Lock Inn's garden is full of people enjoying the sunshine. The canal side too is rammed with people watching the Narrowboats come and go. Luckily there are not too many boats waiting to go up the locks and we are advised by the lock keepers that we will just need to wait 45 minutes for our turn.
The lock keeper is incredibly helpful and friendly, and seems to be as busing marshalling all the gongoozerlers as much as he is helping us.
Once we are up the 10 locks we moor up and go and have an explore. We visit the little museum and go and see the famous incline plane.

Film of a visit to Foxton Locks in Leicestershire. I hadn't been there for a few years and had forgotten what a beautiful spot it is. A great place to chill and watch beautiful narrow boats negotiating the locks. What a nice place to have only half an hour from home. Shot in 4K in 2:40-1 aspect ratio and colour graded in Vegas.
