Ex Donegal Railway Locomotive No.4 Meenglas Departing Whitehead 28/1/19
On Monday 28th January 2019 Ex Donegal Railway Loco No.4 Meenglas departed the RPSI Base at Whitehead bound for her home at the Foyle Valley Railway Museum in Derry/Londonderry after receiving a cosmetic restoration.
First we see 141 Class loco 142 shunting Meenglas into position under the gantry cranes for loading onto a low loader.
Next we see Meenglas being loaded onto the low loader lorry.
And finally we see Meenglas departing on her journey home.
During her days in service Meenglas would have ran on the 3 foot gauge County Donegal Railway between Derry/Londonderry , Strabane and Donegal.
Sadly the Donegal Railway closed in 1959
Today the only section of the County Donegal Railway still in use is at Fintown which is in use as a heritage railway and it is the only operational railway in County Donegal.
And also the site of the former station in Donegal town has been turned into Donegal Heritage Railway Centre.
And also there is the Foyle Valley Railway Museum in Derry/Londonderry
For years Meenglas was stored outside the site of the Foyle Valley Railway Museum were her condition sadly deteriorated but finally the decision was taken to send her to Whitehead to receive a cosmetic restoration by RPSI Volunteers & Workers of Heritage Engineering Ireland which is the RPSI's In House Engineering Group.
Meenglas departed Derry/Londonderry and arrived at Whitehead on the 30th November 2017.
During her time at Whitehead she received a full body and cab rebuild and refurbishment.
And finally after over a year long restoration Meenglas departing Whitehead on the 28th January 2019 and returned home to the Foyle Valley Railway Museum in Derry/Londonderry.
Meenglas is due to be put onto public display in the near future
The Foyle Valley Railway Museum has been closed for a few years however it is now under new ownership and it is due to fully reopen in the very near future.
As well as that the new owners hope to re open the heritage line that used to run from the museum site and along the banks of the River Foyle.
So with the Return of Meenglas and the re opening of the museum exciting times lie ahead for the Foyle Valley Railway Museum.
Note in the opening shot of this video you can see the boiler (located in the far siding) & underframe (located on the flat wagon being hauled by 142) of a 2nd County Donegal Locomotive No.5 Drumboe in the near future the plan is to restore this loco and return it home to the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre in Donegal Town.

Derry, also known as Londonderry, is a city on the River Foyle in Northern Ireland. It’s known for the intact 17th-century Derry’s Walls with 7 gates. Within the walls, spired St. Columb’s Cathedral displays artefacts from the 1688–9 Siege of Derry. Near the Peace Bridge, the Tower Museum has city views and historical exhibits. Huge stained-glass windows adorn the neo-Gothic red sandstone Guildhall.
Derry is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name Derry is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name Daire (modern Irish: Doire) meaning oak grove. In 1613, the city was granted a Royal Charter by King James I and gained the London prefix to reflect the funding of its construction by the London guilds. While the city is more usually known colloquially as Derry, Londonderry is also commonly used and remains the legal name.
The old walled city lies on the west bank of the River Foyle, which is spanned by two road bridges and one footbridge. The city now covers both banks (Cityside on the west and Waterside on the east). The district administered by Derry City and Strabane District Council contains both Londonderry Port and City of Derry Airport.
Derry is close to the border with County Donegal, with which it has had a close link for many centuries. The person traditionally seen as the founder of the original Derry is Saint Colmcille, a holy man from Tír Chonaill, the old name for almost all of modern County Donegal, of which the west bank of the Foyle was a part before 1610. In 2013, Derry was the inaugural UK City of Culture, having been awarded the title in 2010.

Onto the 'Operating the Railway' section, in which 1897-built GWR 'Dean Goods' 0-6-0 No. 2516 (the sole-survivor of her class) is seen separated from her tender to illustrate life on the footplate. Then, I try out the footplate simulator with footage from the West Somerset Railway.
For a brief segment about the Slip Coaches, I've included the three friends of Duck the Great Western Engine whom he refers to as Slippies.
Then, rounding this video off with the Great Western Goods, consisting of GWR Hawksworth '9400' Class 0-6-0PT No. 9400 and a Scammell Scarab 'Mechanical Horse'.

SUMMARY
=======
Northern Ireland (Irish: Tuaisceart Éireann [ˈt̪ˠuəʃcəɾˠt̪ˠ ˈeːɾʲən̪ˠ] (listen); Ulster-Scots: Norlin Airlann) is a part of the United Kingdom in the north-east of the island of Ireland, variously described as a country, province or region. Northern Ireland shares a border to the south and west with the Republic of Ireland. In 2011, its population was 1,810,863, constituting about 30% of the island's total population and about 3% of the UK's population. Established by the Northern Ireland Act 1998 as part of the Good Friday Agreement, the Northern Ireland Assembly holds responsibility for a range of devolved policy matters, while other areas are reserved for the British government. Northern Ireland co-operates with the Republic of Ireland in some areas, and the Agreement granted the Republic the ability to put forward views and proposals with determined efforts to resolve disagreements between the two governments.Northern Ireland was created in 1921, when Ireland was partitioned between Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland by the Government of Ireland Act 1920. Unlike Southern Ireland, which would become the Irish Free State in 1922, the majority of Northern Ireland's population were unionists, who wanted to remain within the United Kingdom. Most of these were the Protestant descendants of colonists from Great Britain. However, a significant minority, mostly Catholics, were nationalists who wanted a united Ireland independent of British rule. Today, the former generally see themselves as British and the latter generally see themselves as Irish, while a distinct Northern Irish or Ulster identity is claimed both by a large minority of Catholics and Protestants and by many of those who are non-aligned.For most of the 20th century, when it came into existence, Northern Ireland was marked by discrimination and hostility between these two sides in what First Minister of Northern Ireland, David Trimble, called a cold house for Catholics. In the late 1960s, conflict between state forces and chiefly Protestant unionists on the one hand, and chiefly Catholic nationalists on the other, erupted into three decades of violence known as the Troubles, which claimed over 3,500 lives and caused over 50,000 casualties. The 1998 Good Friday Agreement was a major step in the peace process, including the decommissioning of weapons, although sectarianism and religious segregation still remain major social problems, and sporadic violence has continued.Northern Ireland has historically been the most industrialised region of Ireland. After declining as a result of the political and social turmoil of the Troubles, its economy has grown significantly since the late 1990s. The initial growth came from the peace dividend and the links which increased trade with the Republic of Ireland, contin ...

SUMMARY
=======
The Occupy movement was an international progressive, socio-political movement against social and economic inequality and the lack of real democracy around the world. It aimed primarily to advance social and economic justice and new forms of democracy. The movement had many different scopes; local groups often had different focuses, but among the movement's prime concerns were how large corporations (and the global financial system) control the world in a way that disproportionately benefited a minority, undermined democracy, and was unstable. Occupy formed part of what Manfred Steger called the global justice movement.The first Occupy protest to receive widespread attention, Occupy Wall Street in New York City's Zuccotti Park, began on 17 September 2011. By 9 October, Occupy protests had taken place or were ongoing in over 951 cities across 82 countries, and in over 600 communities in the United States. Although most active in the United States, by October 2012 there had been Occupy protests and occupations in dozens of other countries across every inhabited continent. For the first month, overt police repression remained minimal, but this began to change by 25 October 2011 when police first attempted to forcibly remove Occupy Oakland. By the end of 2011, authorities had cleared most of the major camps, with the last remaining high-profile sites – in Washington, D.C. and in London – evicted by February 2012.The Occupy movement took inspiration in part from the Arab Spring, from the 2009 Iranian Green Movement, and from the Spanish Indignados Movement, as well as from the overall global wave of anti-austerity protests. The movement commonly uses the slogan We are the 99% and the #Occupy hashtag format; it organizes through websites such as Occupy Together. According to The Washington Post, the movement, which Cornel West described as a democratic awakening, is difficult to distill to a few demands. On 12 October 2011, Los Angeles City Council became one of the first governmental bodies in the United States to adopt a resolution stating its informal support of the Occupy movement. In October 2012, the Executive Director of Financial Stability at the Bank of England stated that the protesters were right to criticise and had persuaded bankers and politicians to behave in a more moral way.
