Holyland Trip Vlog - Day 8 - JERUSALEM, BETHLEHEM (EP 08)
EP.08: We continued our journey by visiting some places in the old city such as Pool of Bethesda, St.Anne's Church, Via Dolorosa and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, The Western Wall, Jericho and Bethlehem before ended our night with having dinner in Indonesian restaurant.
- Pool of Bethesda
It's been identified as the scene of one of Jesus’ miracles. This was the healing of the paralysed man who had waited for 38 years for someone to help him into the pool “when the water is stirred” an event believed to have curative powers. (John 5:2-18)
- The Church of St Anne
The best-preserved Crusader church in Jerusalem. It marks the traditional site of the home of Jesus’ maternal grandparents, Anne and Joachim, and the birthplace of the Virgin Mary.
- Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrows)
There are 14 Stations of the Cross as they identify with the suffering of Jesus on his way to crucifixion. This is also the name of the principal street they follow, a narrow marketplace abustle with traders and shoppers, most likely similar to the scene on the first Good Friday. Today’s Via Dolorosa originated in pious tradition rather than in certain fact, but it is hallowed by the footsteps of the faithful over centuries.
- The Western Wall
the place where Jews down the ages have expressed their grief over the destruction of the Temple, their anguish giving the wall another name — the Wailing Wall. But the wall is also a place for celebrations, especially of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs (coming-of-age ceremonies for Jewish sons and daughters).
- Mount of Temptation
Traditionally regarded as the mountain on which Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil during his 40-day fast.
- Jericho
It’s reputed to be the oldest town on earth, with stories to match. The Israelites supposedly brought down its walls with a great shout and trumpet blasts. Here Jesus healed Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, and dined with Zacchaeus, the rich tax collector. And both Cleopatra and Herod the Great coveted this lush oasis.
- The Dead Sea
It is set in the lowest dry land on earth, so it has no outlet. It is so loaded with minerals that no fish can live in it. It is so dense that bathers can lie back on its surface and read a newspaper. It is located about 25km east of Jerusalem, along the border between Israel and Jordan. About half of it is actually in Jordanian territory.
- Bethlehem
The West Bank city of Bethlehem, about 9km south of Jerusalem, is celebrated by Christians as the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
- Church of the Nativity
Entering the church that marks the site of Jesus Christ’s birthplace means having to stoop low. The only doorway in the fortress-like front wall is just 1.2 metres high.
- The Shepherds Field
Caves where shepherds “kept watch over their flock” still abound in the area east of Bethlehem. Here, the Gospel of Luke tells us, an angel announced the birth of Jesus.

Bethlehem
Bethlehem (Arabic: بيت لحم Bayt Laḥm (help·info) or Bēt Laḥm, lit House of Meat; Hebrew: בֵּית לֶחֶם Bēṯ Leḥem, Modern: Bet Leḥem, IPA: [bet ˈleχem], lit House of Bread; Greek: Βηθλεὲμ, Vithleém) is a city located in the central West Bank and approximately 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) south of Jerusalem, with a population of about 30,000 people.[4][5] It is the capital of the Bethlehem Governorate of the Palestinian National Authority. The economy is primarily tourist-driven.[6][7]
The Hebrew Bible identifies Bethlehem as the city David was from and the location where he was crowned as the king of Israel. The New Testament identifies Bethlehem as the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth. The town is inhabited by one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, although the size of the community has shrunk due to emigration.
The city was sacked by the Samaritans in 529, but rebuilt by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I. Bethlehem was conquered by the Arab Caliphate of 'Umar ibn al-Khattāb in 637, who guaranteed safety for the city's religious shrines. In 1099, Crusaders captured and fortified Bethlehem and replaced its Greek Orthodox clergy with a Latin one. The Latin clergy were expelled after the city was captured by Saladin, the sultan of Egypt and Syria. With the coming of the Mamluks in 1250, the city's walls were demolished, and were subsequently rebuilt during the rule of the Ottoman Empire.[8]
The British wrested control of the city from the Ottomans during World War I and it was to be included in an international zone under the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine. Jordan annexed the city in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It was occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War. Since 1995, Bethlehem has been governed by the Palestinian National Authority.[8]
Bethlehem has a Muslim majority, but is also home to one of the largest Palestinian Christian communities. Bethlehem's chief economic sector is tourism which peaks during the Christmas season when Christian pilgrims throng to the Church of the Nativity. Bethlehem has over thirty hotels and three hundred handicraft work shops.[9] Rachel's Tomb, an important Jewish holy site, is located at the northern entrance of Bethlehem

Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera zahigo25@walla.com +972-54-6905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522
My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
The Separation Wall
This video was made to depict the Separation Wall (aka, Separation Barrier, Apartheid Wall, Anti-Terrorism Wall, and Berlin Wall) that surrounds much of the West Bank in Israel/Palestine. Many visitors to Bethlehem do not get to experience the wall I photographed in this video. Please watch and imagine yourself in the shoes of the people who are separated from their homelands by this wall.
More information can be found by researching The Separation Wall of the West Bank.
Music & the wall, Bethlehem, Palestine 2019
Singer from Haifa, instrumentalist from West Bank, in Bethlehem, & the conflict wall, 2019. #Free Palestine.
I really wanted to stay & hear the music longer but my friend wanted to go to the shisha bar so I went with my friend but when I went to press the stop button on my phone I accidentally hit pause instead. So when we stopped at the wall later & I went to take pics of the wall it ended up with a shot of the wall at the end. Could not shoot the wall much because my friend said the soldiers don't like being photographed or filmed & didn't want to get stopped & searched so since there were too many soldiers I didn't take a lot of footage here. Peace to Palestine.

Today is the first day of AIPAC’s propaganda tour of Israel/Palestine for freshmen members of Congress. Since AIPAC will surely be hiding the brutal reality of Israel’s Occupation from our representatives, we have decided to show them the truth through an alternative digital tour.
For the first day of our tour, we invite members of Congress to meet Issa Amro, a human rights defender from the occupied city of Hebron on the West Bank. Watch until the end to get a glimpse of life under Occupation in Hebron.
Santa Claus is Coming to Jerusalem Town
HOLY LAND UNCOVERED | Santa Claus is coming to town — Jerusalem town. Who is the famed man who walks around Jerusalem dressed as the gift giver himself? Our Shelby Weiner has the story.
Story:
Christians in Israel and the Palestinian territories joined pilgrims from around the world in celebrating Christmas in the Holy Land, celebrating the birth of Jesus at some of the most revered biblical sites.
Pilgrims from across the world gathered in Bethlehem where a traditional midnight mass held at the Church of the Nativity, built atop the grotto where Jesus is believed to have been born.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was among dignitaries who attended the mass, led by the Catholic archbishop for the Holy Land Pierbattista Pizzaballa.
Earlier in Bethlehem crowds, some wearing Santa hats or holding balloons, took in the annual Palestinian scouts and bagpipe band parade through the city’s Manger Square which was decked out with a giant Christmas tree and a nativity scene as carols in Arabic played through speakers.
Later in the day, musical groups took the stage at Manger Square in front of the Christmas tree, illuminated as night fell, to sing Christmas carols.
Some 175,000 Christians live in Israel comprising just two percent of the country’s total population, according to figures published by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Christmas Eve.
Seventy-seven percent of the Christians in Israel are Arab Christians, according to the figures which did not include foreigners not residing in Israel who do not appear in the population register.
In the Palestinian territories, Christians make up less than one percent of the overall population in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Authority Central Bureau of Statistics.
There are 46,850 Palestinian Christians living in the West Bank and 1,138 residing in the Gaza Strip, the PA body said in a report published earlier this year.
This year, however, the local Christian population is celebrating alongside an increased number of pilgrims from around the world following a lull in Christmastime tourism over the past several years due to unrest linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Holy Land Overview Tour: See all the Major Holy Sites of Israel in HD
See all the holy sites as you learn new facts about what makes the Holy Land so special and unique! HolyLandSite.com.
Israel . . . Land of the Bible . . . Land of Faith . . . the Holy Land, revered throughout recorded history as the cradle of monotheistic religion. For a person of faith whose beliefs are rooted in the Bible, there is no place on earth like the Holy Land. In this narrow strip of land lies the source of religious belief of much of mankind. Here, amongst the barren hills and fertile plains, man’s spirit learned to soar and from here a new message went out to all the world: “. . . and many peoples shall come, and say, “Come, let us go up to the Mountain of the Lord, to the House of the God of Jacob; that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths. For out of Zion (Hill next to Jerusalem) will go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:3,4).
The unique factor about the Holy Land is its special location in the World. Situated as it is, straddling the divide between Africa and Asia, the area has almost always been a battleground. Wave after wave of conquerors poured into it, anxious to control the strategic trade routes linking the centers of the ancient world. It’s not by accident that it’s virtually in the center of the world. In God’s master plan of creation, He decided to place Israel exactly in the center of His creation. Located on a tiny land bridge between Africa and Asia, there is no other way to get between the two of them except through Israel. It’s located on the crossroads of the world. Whoever wanted to trade between the two continents, or control the known world, had to conquer and control Israel. For this reason, there have been more wars and events that have taken place in Israel than any other country on earth. God positioned Israel in its unique location in order to influence the world and be on “Center Stage” so all of creation would know that He alone is God.
For nearly 2,000 years, Christian visitors from all over the world have come to the Holy Land, the land of their spiritual heritage. With Bible in hand, they have walked the places Jesus walked and prayed in the places He preached and prayed. For Christians, Israel is a place like no other. It provides them a one of a kind opportunity to experience the land of the Bible, to deepen their faith, and to be spiritually transformed for a lifetime.
