A sunset drive on Eagle River Road, near Anchorage, Mount Baldy
Enjoy this drive near sunset, as I explored Eagle River Road, looking for wildlife (and as you can see by the title screen, I found it!). The drive takes you out Eagle River Road, almost to the Nature Center, then back, and up to the Mount Baldy Trailhead for a sunset view of the MatSu Valley.

I made this trip in May/June, 2016. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Hiking in Alaska - Mt. Baldy hike in Chugach State Park (Eagle River)
We hiked up Mt Baldy yesterday. I should specify that I hiked up Mt Baldy while my friend Johnathon hike to the top of Mt Baldy. Yes. There is a difference.
It was a beautiful day and, as you can see, gorgeous views. We even had a bald eagle circling above for a little while.

The Drive to Mount Baldy Trailhead, above Eagle River, Alaska
This video shows you the long way between one Fred Meyer in Anchorage and another. The video begins at the store on Muldoon, on the northeast side of town, then heads north on the Glenn Highway to Eagle River Loop, followed by the drive up to the Mount Baldy Trailhead. Then, I came back down to the Fred Meyer in Eagle River.

Skagit River Eagle Photography
This GoPro video was taken on December 30, 2013 from a jet sled (river boat) as some friends and I photographed eagles along the shore of the Skagit River eating dead salmon, sitting in the trees and in flight. The eagle count has been lower this year than past years, but the action on this day was the best of the season. A fabulous time was had by all.

Eagle River Public Use Cabin
The Eagle River Public Use Cabin is roughly 1.5 miles away from the Eagle River Nature Center (ERNC). The cabin is an adorable one room log cabin with a wood stove, bunks for six, a table and benches that can sleep two more. There is an outhouse, and volunteers keep firewood chopped for use by the occupants.
The trail to the cabin is groomed and well marked. We had a recent rain and the trail was iced over, so slip-over cleats on our boots came in very handy. We also picked up some robust sleds to pull our gear, and of course the kids

My name is Lisa Murkowski. I am a 3rd generation Alaskan. My mom was born in Nome and both of my parents grew up in Ketchikan. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Alaskans in the U.S. Senate since 2003. I am the first U.S. Senator to be born in Alaska and only the 32nd woman to have served in the Senate since its founding in 1787.
I was born in Ketchikan when my Dad was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. My five siblings and I were raised in Wrangell, Juneau, Anchorage and Fairbanks. I graduated from Monroe High School in Fairbanks and then went on to get an economics degree at Georgetown University. My summer jobs ranged from scooping ice cream to working at a pipeline construction camp.
I received my law degree from Willamette College of Law in 1985 and returned to Anchorage to practice commercial law. It was there that I met and married my husband, Verne Martell. Verne has owned and operated his own small business, manufacturing pasta, since 1987. We have two sons, Nic and Matt, both born in Anchorage, who were raised to love the outdoors and are serious skiers, fishermen and hunters. Nic is currently attending law school and Matt is working with Verne to take over the family business in Anchorage.
I have long been an active member of my community serving as PTA president of my sons’ elementary school, as a member of the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission, the Homeless Task Force and the boards of several charitable organizations. In 1998, I was elected to the State House of Representatives where I served for three terms before joining the U.S. Senate in 2003. In 2010, I was reelected in a historic write-in campaign – only the second successful write-in campaign for United States Senate in history.
My love for Alaska, the Alaska outdoors, and our way of life is as big as the state itself. I am a winter enthusiast, an avid skier, and I believe the Iditarod is the greatest sporting event in the world. I am a skilled sport fisherman and have the fish in the freezer to prove it. My favorite activities are hiking, fishing, hunting and boating in this amazing place we call home. Alaska is my home and my inspiration. Always.
Eagle eye on Wisconsin's Rock River
This new wildlife video documents that bald eagles rule the beautiful Rock River which drains much of Wisconsin and Illinois before becoming part of the Mississippi.
Two amateur photographers contributing to the video have been on the meandering, tree-lined river almost daily in recent weeks and have seen eagles every time between Janesville and Beloit.
Other large birds--blue herons--reminded the photographers of flying creatures in Jurassic Park.
Although its the national symbol and honored in the Wisconsin Capitol, the bald eagle came close to extinction from hunting and the pesticide DDT.
Photographer Glennon Loyd lives on Riverview Drive in Janesville and says he has been seeing eagles year round for the past few years.
He was canvassing the river with his friend Lynn Brunsell when Janesville city sirens warned of a possible tornado. She photographed the storms beautiful red clouds over the river in the video.
The photographers shot other raptors on the river, too. Baby red tailed hawks nested on a soaring man-made platform erected by Alliants Rock River plant to attract rarer cousins called osprey.
The work of the photographers was edited by Glen Loyd who recently retired as public information officer with the WI Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
The video--Eagle eye on Wisconsin's Rock River--can been seen at Glen Loyds Blog. Google Glen Loyds blog
The music accompanying the video comes from Green Bay, WI composer Kevin MacLeod.
Note: Sections of the Rock River between Janesville and Beloit are often inaccessible by motor boats because of low water levels.
Over 30 Bald Eagles in the back yard
This video was recorded in Unalaska, Alaska. Google it. A bunch of bald eagles show up in our back yard. You get to hear a lot of the bald eagles talking. My kids get really close to them, they must really want more red salmon. Right now the salmon are running upstream to spawn so most of the locals are set-netting on the beach and smoking/canning/grilling some sockeye. In this video the native Aleuts were subsistence fishing and drying out the fillets. The Aleuts were not using the heads and guts and that is what the eagles were eating.
Fox Attacks Bald Eagle Nest!
Watch what happens when this sly fox attempts to get into the Catalina West End bald eagle nest!
For everyone asking how the fox got up there, this nest is on the side of a cliff on Catalina Island, not high up in a tree. This makes it easier for other animals to access the nest. The wing tag is for scientific purposes, these are wild eagles.
