Puerto Vallarta Spring Break
We stayed in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta for spring break from April 6-13, 2019. Renting a Molino de Agua condo via airbnb was a no-brainer with the perfect location and beautiful accomodations. On our visit we took a food tour, went on an ATV adventure up the Rio Cuale, and rented a boat to go snorkeling and hike up to the Yelapa waterfall. The locals were friendly, the food was excellent, and the weather was perfect; one short week in Puerto Vallarta wasn't even close to enough.

Puerto Vallarta Zona Romántica / Romantic Zone Playa Los Muertos / Beach

This video shows the area from the Los Muertos Beach Pier going south past Sí Señor Restaurant, La Palapa restaurant, Spiral Shark sculpture by Ramiz Barquet and Vista Grill Restaurant.
Playa Los Muertos (Los Muertos Beach) is one of the most popular beaches, or perhaps, the most popular and visited beach in Puerto Vallarta Jalisco Mexico.
It is located south of the Malecón and the Cuale river, in the so-called Romantic Zone or Old Vallarta. Between the Cuale river and Venustiano Carranza street (where Daiquiri Dick's is located) the beach is called Olas Altas and south of Venustiano Carranza street to the south it is called Los Muertos Beach (Deadman's Beach, or Beach of The Dead, we'll talk about the sinister name a bit further down).
It is an excellent place to relax, walk, eat or have a beer and enjoy the famous Vallarta sunsets.
There is also a relatively new pier and the location's now a place that mixes a lot of old and new, traditional and modern, it is very active and very Mexican too.
The name, I must admit, is incredibly ugly, in fact, the city officials have tried several times to change it, Playa del Sol (Sun Beach), being one of the proposals, but the new ones have never stuck and people continue to use the traditional name.
The most accepted version of why this beautiful beach has this horrible name, apparently the most correct and that has most support in documents and expert experience, is that the beach was a sacred cemetery of the local Indians, a pantheon. The local residents noticed it when they began to unearth bones in ceramic containers, a custom of the local tribes when they buried their dead. This explanation is also validated by the archaeologist Dr. Joseph Mounjoy.
All this is quite interesting, but, despite the unattractive name, Playa de Los Muertos is one of the main Things to do in Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone (Old Vallarta), a beach full of people compared to the rest of the beaches of Vallarta and even the whole of Bahia de Banderas, but If you like to people-watching, if you're sociable, and don't feel uncomfortable among people, you'll have a great time: vendors, various activities, shrimp and grilled fish, beer, parasailing, just swimming (the waves are not big), or playing in the sand with your children, there is so much you'll enjoy.
There are also restaurants, bars and cafes, in the evening you can enjoy a romantic gourmet dinner on the beach and enjoy one of the famous Puerto Vallarta sunsets, and now even with the impressive and colorful Playa de Los Muertos Pier, a perfect photo opportunity and souvenir for all your indelible memories of PV.
Los Muertos Beach is definitely not one for those looking to relax and get away from it all, but if you want action, sun, sand, food and lots to do, this one of the Vallarta Beaches is the heart of everything in Old Vallarta.

Definitively one of the top things to do in Puerto Vallarta.
We invite you to walk along the beach to the south and visit Las Pilitas, El Púlpito and Las Amapas beach during the day, we even recommend a very romantic picnic there. At Las Pilitas you'll find the original Seahorse statue, the one you find in a bigger version on the boardwalk (Malecon).
Los Muertos Beach is definitely not one for those looking to relax and get away from it all, but if you want action, sun, sand, food and lots to do, this one of the Vallarta Beaches is the heart of everything in Old Vallarta.

Call me Puerto Vallarta
For my friend's destination birthday, Sacramento went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a fabulous vacation. June 6-10, 2012.
Why visit Playa Los Muertos Beach in the Romantic Zone Puerto Vallarta
Los Muertos Beach (or Playa Los Muertos Beach) is the main and most popular beach within the city limits of Puerto Vallarta Jalisco Mexico. Perhaps there are nicer and quieter beaches to the north and south of the city, but this is undoubtedly one of the most popular and active beaches in the entire bay area (Banderas Bay).
It is also one of the many Blue Flag beaches, a certification that guarantees and ensures clean waters and beaches that offer all the necessary and indispensable services to have a good time by the sea.
Playa Los Muertos Puerto Vallarta is located in the southern part of the city, along the edge of the area called Viejo Vallarta or Zona Romantica, from the neighborhood (colonia) called Emiliano Zapata. There are countless restaurants and bars along the edge of the sands of the beach and offer lounge chairs and sunshades for those who want to spend some time in (and out) of the sun.
There are many tours and activities offered along the beach, the classics are parasailing, jetski and water taxi rides (pangas) that leave from the Los Muertos Beach Pier. There are many interesting and traditional snacks brought to you by the meany beach vendors, we can recommend embarazado shrimp and fish (grilled on a stick), mangoes among others.
It is a very popular beach among the local Puerto Vallarta families and in the last few decades it has also enjoyed a growing popularity among the LGBT community who are located mostly from the pier south in the blue chairs area.
Walking to the south you can reach Las Pilitas, where the original Seahorse is - the famous sculpture of the boardwalk with the child that rides on a sea horse. Further south is El Púlpito and, passing over it, you arrive at the next beach, Playa Las Amapas.
It is not possible to visit the city without strolling along the Malecon and in the same way it is essential to visit the area south of the Cuale River and especially the atmosphere and experience offered by Los Muertos and the streets that end in it. Do not visit Puerto Vallarta without living the experience of Playa de Los Muertos Beach.
