Road changes North of Morpeth
IT’S all change for motorists North of Morpeth, Northumberland.
The road network into and out of the town has a completely new look since the opening of the £30m Northern Bypass on Tuesday.
There is a new interchange connecting drivers to the A1, and old junctions at Northgate have been closed, both North and South.
The changes have puzzled some motorists who have grown accustomed to the long established access routes.
It now takes a little longer for anyone travelling from Morpeth onto the A697 to places like Heighley Gate, Longhorsley and Wooler, or onto the A1 to Felton, Alnwick and beyond.
Travelling North out of Morpeth, a roundabout takes drivers left towards the A1, or right onto the new bypass in the direction of Pegswood, Ashington and South East Northumberland.
Going straight over the roundabout now accesses only Northgate, Fairmoor, Morpeth cemetery, and the junction West to Netherwittton.

1962 Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 BT7 Owner Interview - PART 1
Visit to see this 1962 Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 for sale from Left Coast Classics in Sonoma California.
I received a call from the owner of this special BT7 last February. He was referred to me by another British car enthusiast who knew my soft-spot for these original, one-owner cars. He had been struggling with the idea of selling his special Healey that he purchased new at Paul Felton British Cars in Daly City when he was just 25 years old. He's now 80. Owning my moms 1963 Jaguar that my dad bought her 45 years ago I was immediately sympathetic to the situation, the emotions surrounding it and I knew this was going to be a very special hand-off.
The emotions were high as he talked about a life well-lived and all of the fun rallies he had participated in his special roadster and I knew that I wanted the job of finding this special car the perfect new home. He wasn't interested in consigning the car, he wanted to tear the bandaid off fast and get the goodbyes done quickly. That day we were not able to agree upon a price for the car so I said my goodbyes and drove back to Sonoma thinking about this BT7 over the next month or so.
Over a breakfast with my friend Mike who stars in a show called Wheeler Dealers I explained the car to him, showed him a few photos and told the story of the man and his car. Mike was eager and excited about the car and told me he'd buy it from me at a fair profit if I couldn't sell it giving me enough confidence to move forward with it. Mike and I agreed that it would be cool to video the entire event so I called the seller back and told him that I'd move forward at his number if he'd let me film the event and interview him. He agreed.
I took the 100-mile drive north soon thereafter and had a look. My wife and I attached the trailer to the truck and headed north in late August to pick up the car. We had a long, interesting day with Dick, a good interview, and the last drive.
That night I tucked the car into my warehouse and made no decisions about it for the next several weeks. I thought of keeping it in my own small collection and I drove it a bit when time permitted. By late September I decided I barely have time to take care of my personal cars and this car deserves better. So it was time to find it a new home that would really appreciate its originality and provenance.
So to the Healey aficionados that love original, California rust-free cars with history and provenance, this special BT7 is now available. A fantastic piece of British sports car history and perfect for preserving but certainly an ideal candidate for a complete, proper restoration. Either way, I'm seeking the perfect new second owner that understands the significance of this car and the roads it has traveled.

‘Jack and Jill & The Red Postbox’ encourages the audience to think about how they live and work alongside those in their communities who have a diagnosis of dementia.
This was originally a fictionalised play, written, performed and produced by Skimstone Arts, Newcastle, and inspired by findings from a piece of research undertaken by Edinburgh and Northumbria Universities.
The research was funded by the (then titled) NHS North of Tyne and was led by Professor Charlotte Clarke at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with Dr Cathy Bailey, Senior Research Fellow and Dr Catherine Gibb, Senior Lecturer, both at Northumbria University.
We subsequently secured funding from Edinburgh and Northumbria Universities and produced the film in this Vimeo. The filming was done in Felton Northumberland, and premiered in Gallery 45 in Felton on Sunday 13th December 2015.

How to tell if a painting is old or a reproduction
I look at artwork every day of my life – often to buy and people need my advice of what their piece is, and if its original or not. Today I want to talk about: how do you tell an original piece of artwork, and I specifically kind of hone in on paintings, because what I see all the time are pieces that are reproductions or prints or flat-out fakes and frauds. So, some of the little highlights that you need to know if you're looking to purchase a piece of artwork or if you have a piece of artwork if it's original is: 1) if it's supposedly old and has a date on it, let's say it says 1923, well it should look like it's old. You should turn over the back of the painting, and look. The back of the painting, quite frankly, is going to tell you as much as the front of the painting. If the canvas is very white, and the little sticks that you'll see in the corners that are the little spacer or
the bars that you see around the edge of the painting, if those are very white and have not oxidized, it's not old – it's a new piece, and it's probably jaclay. A jaclay is a copy of an original oil painting piece of artwork. They can be very nice; they can have value, but they're a copy; a photographic copy put on canvas, and the idea is to make it look like the original. And quite frankly, from a photograph when I get them on the internet sometimes you can't tell because it can be a Charlie Russell, and it looks like a Charlie Russell because “Hey, guess what?” It is, but it's a copy; it's a jaclay. So, when you look at the piece in person, you should be able to see individual brushstrokes and thickness and texture to the paint. Those jacylays will often have the brushstrokes, but you'll see kind of a sheen on the top that really just doesn't look right. And then if you turn it around on the back you'll see staples where the canvas has been stapled to the stretcher bars. The stretcher bars, which are the foundation bars, will be. The canvas will be white, (and) there's no oxidation. Charlie Russell was painting at the turn of the century – if you've got that time frame, things are going to happen. Also, the frame will tell you something. If you look at a frame and it is got chips – again, the wood is oxidized, and you may see different holes where it's been used in the past; look at these things. If they look old and feel old and maybe even smell old; if they've been in a smoker’s home for 20-30 years, you'll smell the nicotine. Use your senses, and if that little voice says, “Something's wrong.” Guess what? It is. So, you can't just go buy a history, because I can tell you this: after twenty years of doing this, histories are very easy to fabricate, and people do this, or they just, you know, (have a) family lore (that) says, “Oh, this has been in our family for a hundred years.” Well, the realities of it, (is) take that into consideration, but it's probably the last thing. First, use your own eyes (and) your own senses. Does this feel like it's a painting that's old or not? Remember, people do make frauds and fakes. So, if you're buying older works you have to (and it looks old – well, it could be an old painting that they've signed a name on. I see all the time old paintings where somebody's put Maynard Dixon) you have to know your subject matter, and if it's obviously not his work, not his signature, not his style, then it's not right. The last thing I go on (with) a painting is the signature. That's the very last thing that I take into consideration because the signature is easier to fake than style, composition, and the way the painting looks like. You know, they can be a good forger of the name Maynard Dixon, but they can't do the palette; they can't do the structure
or the composition of the painting. Even if it's an old painting, it just doesn't hack it. So, when you look at these things, be very critical. Look for age, especially on old pieces; they should have a certain sensibility and if they don't, get an expert to look at it before you ever purchase it.

Bangers and mash, also known as sausages and mash, is a traditional British dish made of mashed potatoes and sausages, the latter of which may consist of a variety of flavoured sausage made of pork or beef or a Cumberland sausage. It is sometimes served with onion gravy, fried onions, baked beans and peas.
This dish may, even when cooked at home, be thought of as an example of pub grub—relatively quick and easy to make in large quantities. More up-market varieties, with exotic sausages and mashes, are sold in gastropubs, as well as less exotic alternatives being available in regular public houses.
Along with jellied eels and pie and mash, the dish has particular iconic significance as traditional British working-class dishes. In the north, black pudding and leeks have a similar reputation.
In the United States, the ubiquitous Irish-themed 'Pub' will often feature the dish on its menu although there is no evidence that it is any more popular in Ireland than in other parts of the British Isles.
Although it is sometimes stated that the term bangers has its origins in World War II, the term was actually in use at least as far back as 1919. The term bangers is attributed to the fact that sausages, particularly the kind made during World War II under rationing, were made with water so they were more likely to explode under high heat if not cooked carefully; modern sausages do not have this attribute.

Breakthrough Lab (B-Lab) Venture Showcase 2019
Building the Next Big Thing
Brown University’s Breakthrough Lab (B-Lab) is a unique, intensive 8-week accelerator program that supports student entrepreneurs developing high-impact ventures. The Venture Showcase presentations are a significant milestone for the students who spent their summer in Providence and in the local community advancing their ventures.
B-Lab provides students access to high-level sector-specific mentoring, business and technical support, focused programming and dedicated space. Our ventures span a wide range of sectors including healthcare, software, food, sustainable products, and education. In B-Lab, we value the personal and professional development of our participants alongside the development of their ventures, and in so doing we aim to continue building an ecosystem of next-generation entrepreneurs.
