Merhaba Restaurant on the beach near Olympos, Lycia, Turkey
Merhaba, a family-run restaurant within steps of the sand and Mediterranean, offers excellent Turkish food and cold drinks. And as everywhere else in Turkey, there is no prohibition of alcohol.
As shown, Merhaba looks like an open air patio. It is. Our guides of Equinox Travel told us the beaches stay warm most of the year. December and January do bring cold rains. Yet even then, when the sun comes, the air warms and people return to the beach and water.
Environmental regulations stopped the over-building of the beach communities. Businesses must limit their construction. In the future, the Turkish government may order the complete remodeling of all the hotels, shops, and restaurants.
As shown in the images of the beach, though Muslim, Turkey is not a fundamentalist culture. Bikinis, levi cut-offs, hejabs, abayas -- a foreigner will think they walk on Santa Monica beach. Except this beach is clean.
We walked past the Merhaba on our way to tour of the ancient Lycian city of Olympos. On the way back to the van, cold drinks, then a motor boat to lunch on a yacht.

Usta sanatçı Ali Atmaca ve genç jenerasyondan Ayşen Karakaya’nın Bodrum’da kesişen yolları, izleyicilerine farklı iki kuşak sanatçıların alış-verişlerini ve usta-çırak ilişkisini yansıttığı yeni eserler sunuyor. Galeri/Miz, 5 Mayıs- 31 Mayıs 2015 tarihleri arasında bu dinamiklerin hayata geçtiği Dialoglar Sergisi’ne ev sahipliği yapıyor.
Ali Atmaca ve Ayşen Karakaya, Bodrum Gümüşlük’ te Atmaca’nın kaleme aldığı roman üzerinden kurdukları dostluğu, atölyeye taşıdılar. Sergide iki sanatçının da ayrı ayrı resimlerinin yanı sıra aykırı üsluplarını tek bir tuvalde birleştirdikleri eserleri de yer alıyor.
Usta-çırak ilişkisi, sanatçıdan sanatçıya aktarılan bilgi, sanatın kendini çoğaltmasını, bakış açılarının yeniden düzenlenmesini getirir. Bir kuşağın temsilcisinden diğerine, sanatçıdan sanatçıya zarifçe aktarılan, farklı kimliklerin, akılların, ruhların bir araya gelişiyle şekillenen bu diyaloğun Galeri/Miz’deki bu sergiyle izleyicisiyle de kurulması bekleniyor.

Çağdaş sanat için bir platform olma hedefiyle açılan Galeri/Miz, 19 Ekim 2011 tarihinde ilk mekânını İstanbul Teşvikiye’de açtı. Çağdaş Türk sanatının yanı sıra uluslararası sanatı da sergilemeyi mekân politikası olarak belirleyen Galeri/Miz, yerleşik sanatçılar için olduğu kadar genç sanatçılar için de bir mekân olma özelliği taşıyor.
Çağdaş ve modern sanatı sergilemenin dışında alanlarında seçkin konukların katıldığı söyleşi programları ve güncel sanat konularında hazırladığı seminer programlarıyla İstanbul kültür ortamında yerini alıyor. Galeri/Miz, tüm kültür kurumlarıyla işbirliğine açık olarak sosyal sorumluluk projeleri yapıyor.

This video captures some images from Fener and Balat, beautiful and historic neighborhoods in Istanbul (Turkey). Fener is where St. George's Cathedral where Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome (most important figure in the Orthodox Church) lives. This place is significant to the Greek Church. Here also you will find the Phanar Greek Orthodox College, the oldest surviving and most prestigious Greek Orthodox school in Istanbul, Turkey.
Fener and Balat are located on the European side of Istanbul. The area is within the old and historic area of Istanbul, west of Eminönü and west of the Golden Horn (Haliç) river. Many churches, synagogues, and mosques are in this area reflecting its history of tolerance. The vibe is so fascinating, houses are painted in cheerful colors, noise of kids playing in the streets, and traces of many communities (Jewish, Armenian, and Orthodox). Over the years many wealthy residents have moved from this area to more modern areas of Istanbul. Nowadays you will find here the less affluent Greeks and Jews of Istanbul still keeping this area alive.
