Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Taylor Park Area to Sunrise Hills . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン市 )
Today we go in a round-about way to see different places and see residential neighborhoods, too.
We begin on the longest, straight main street in the U.S., O Street (U.S. Hwy. 34) before we immediately turn north onto N. 66th Street. This busy, divided 5 lane boulevard of a street (66th) was only a cramped two lane street about 15 years ago... quaint, but not big enough to handle mall traffic along this stretch. On the left just as we turn off of O is the backside of Gateway Mall and on the right is what was the once happening place for teenagers, East Park Plaza (now a shadow of it's former self).
A bit further north, past Vine Street, we enter the Bethany neighborhood (which here was once a divided roadway like Cotner Boulevard is further north yet, go figure~). Before we turn to the west, we see the former small town of Bethany just straight ahead with their U.S. flags out along the street for Memorial Day and July 4th.
Going on residential roads next... the standard square block configuration is dominant. We soon find ourselves on Vine Street which here was also only three lanes 15 or so years ago. We go from three lanes to two as we enter the Meadow Lane neighborhood and pass by what was once the former small town of Meadow Lane at N. 70th Street & Vine. The story I heard as a kid was when they built Meadow Lane Elementary School long, long ago, there was nothing but empty meadows around the school.
From N. 70th to N. 84th (the end of the video), we needlessly go 25 mph for a whole mile. Before 84th, though, we pass by (what I believe is) Lincoln's largest underground reservoir. Many moons ago, Lincoln was transformed into a model cold war city for the rest of the nation to model off of (one of the Civil Defense Directors for the nation around that time was former Nebraska Gov. Val Peterson). Underground reservoirs were built instead of water towers to protects from fallout, Fallout Shelters were built all around the city, the city had full coverage of Federal Signal Thunderbolts (and still does - 2001 models now), some tunnels were built in-between important places/shelters... anyways, this underground reservoir is a remnant of that period and has been recently made bigger.
One other thing, a while back (15/20 years ago?) the Lincoln City Council wanted to make Vine Street 5 lanes all the way east and then some until they realized that Vine stopped at 84th... or so I was told.
Enjoy the ride!

Car Camera - U.S. 77 & NE-L55X - Lincoln to Ceresco, NE . 2013 ( アメリカ国道77号線とネブラスカ州道L55X線 )
Today we go on a lovely drive on one on Nebraska, U.S.A.'s Expressways, from Lincoln north to Ceresco. It's a little bit of a bouncy ride... since the expressway was built, the concrete slabs have settled a little bit and because of state budget crunches, (I'm not sure but I think) the dowel bar retrofitting project for this stretch of highway was scrapped, so up and down we go still :p ... but it is still a nice ride compared to some gravel roads ^_~ ~
Partway before Ceresco, we go through a valley - these are the rare saline wetlands of (mainly) Lancaster and Saunders County. Salt water marshes are where rare plants and bug-life live, one such is the famously endangered, carnivorous Salt Creek Tiger Beatle (only one found here in the whole world!).:
A pretty cool ecosystem!
Otherwise, once you get to Ceresco, you can either visit Ernie's in Ceresco:
...for some good deals or continue onto Wahoo.
...and at the beginning of this video, we travel out on another one of Lincoln's beautiful industrial entryways on the north side - N. 56th Street (State Link L55X).....
One thing that has always intrigued me is the idea of Interstate 31 beginning in Kansas - with the possibility of I-31 going through Lincoln, Wahoo, Fremont and up to Sioux City (at least that's one of the options):
I could only dream of the day a new Interstate would grace Nebraska... especially this part of the state :D !
Please enjoy the ride!

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - NDOR-HQ to UNL City Campus . 2014 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
I've been waiting to do this one for a while. Today we traverse from the Nebraska Department of Roads & Nebraska State Patrol Headquarters at approximately 17th & Nebraska Highway (NE Hwy. 2, in Lincoln, Nebrasksa, U.S.A.), along north along S. 13th Street, eventually winding through downtown, along the southern edge of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln's City Campus and finally ending at Antelope Valley.
Wow, what a timeline! The stretch along S. 13th is mostly residential, so is a bit of a snooze but is also a nice way to shoot south into the southern suburbs from downtown at the end of a work day. I usually don't head this way, but it has to be better than S. 9th St./Hwy. 2's traffic around the 5pm hour...
Something that has bugged me for a while is at the corner of N. 12th & Q Streets. 12th St. used to be a one way north for quite some time until they made it into a two-way street (along with 13th) for a gateway to the University. The one thing they never changed, though, is the rusty ol' traffic light on the NW corner of the intersection... it's still set up for a one way configuration - it's on the wrong side of the road! If one wasn't paying attention to the lane markings (and I've seen a few drivers do this), they might go into the wrong lane to turn. Yikes! What's taking so long to fix it :o ??! It's been at least a decade worth of two-way now ;) !
Oh well, off the soap box now :p . Anyways, please enjoy the ride and thanks for watching ^_^ !

Omaha is the largest city in the state of Nebraska and the county seat of Douglas County. Omaha is in the Midwestern United States on the Missouri River, about 10 miles (15 km) north of the mouth of the Platte River. The nation's 40th-largest city, Omaha's 2018 estimated population was 466,061.
Omaha is the anchor of the eight-county, bi-state Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The Omaha Metropolitan Area is the 59th largest in the United States, with an estimated population of 944,316 (2018). The Omaha-Council Bluffs-Fremont, NE-IA Combined Statistical Area (CSA) encompasses the Omaha-Council Bluffs MSA as well as the separate Fremont, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area, which consists of the entirety of Dodge County, Nebraska. The total population of the CSA was 970,023 based on 2017 estimates. Approximately 1.3 million people reside within the Greater Omaha area, within a 50 mi (80 km) radius of Downtown Omaha.
Omaha's pioneer period began in 1854, when the city was founded by speculators from neighboring Council Bluffs, Iowa. The city was founded along the Missouri River, and a crossing called Lone Tree Ferry earned the city its nickname, the Gateway to the West. Omaha introduced this new West to the world in 1898, when it played host to the World's Fair, dubbed the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. During the 19th century, Omaha's central location in the United States spurred the city to become an important national transportation hub. Throughout the rest of the 19th century, the transportation and jobbing sectors were important in the city, along with its railroads and breweries. In the 20th century, the Omaha Stockyards, once the world's largest, and its meatpacking plants gained international prominence.
Today, Omaha is the home to the headquarters of four Fortune 500 companies: mega-conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway; one of the world's largest construction companies, Kiewit Corporation; insurance and financial firm Mutual of Omaha; and the United States' largest railroad operator, Union Pacific Corporation. Berkshire Hathaway is headed by local investor Warren Buffett, one of the richest people in the world, according to a decade's worth of Forbes Magazine rankings, some of which have ranked him as high as No. 1.
Omaha is also the home to five Fortune 1000 headquarters: Green Plains Renewable Energy, TD Ameritrade, Valmont Industries, Werner Enterprises, and West Corporation. Also headquartered in Omaha are the following: First National Bank of Omaha, the largest privately held bank in the United States; three of the nation's largest 10 architecture/engineering firms (DLR Group, HDR, Inc., and Leo A Daly; and the Gallup Organization, of Gallup Poll fame, and its riverfront Gallup University.
Notable modern Omaha inventions include the following: the pink hair curler created at Omaha's Tip Top Products; Butter Brickle Ice Cream and the Reuben sandwich, conceived by a chef at the then-Blackstone Hotel on 36th and Farnam Streets; cake mix, developed by Duncan Hines, then a division of Omaha's Nebraska Consolidated Mills, the forerunner to today's ConAgra Foods; center-pivot irrigation by the Omaha company now known as Valmont Corporation; Raisin Bran, developed by Omaha's Skinner Macaroni Co.; the ski lift, in 1936, by Omaha's Union Pacific Corp; the Top 40 radio format, pioneered by Todd Storz, scion of Omaha's Storz Brewing Co. and head of Storz Broadcasting, and first used in the U.S. at Omaha's KOWH Radio; and the TV dinner, developed by Omaha's Carl Swanson Co.

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Lower East Campus to Gateway . 2014 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today is a short segment, tying up some loose-ends-of-some urban arterials that we haven't covered before. North 45th/N. 46th Streets and N. 44th/R Streets here in Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.
Not much to say in length about this route... ending at Gateway Mall (formerly Westfield Gateway which was Gateway before that), we go by quite a few government and commercial buildings in this neighbourhood. At one time R St. ended at N. 46th going west (controlled by a stop sign and many trees thereafter) but has since been extended and developed west, then south to O St. (U.S. Highway 34).
Sadly, the area northeast of the N. Cotner Boulevard & R St. intersection will someday be zoned as commercial (currently as it is in Lincoln's long-term plans) - right now the area is home to a number of nice houses.
As always, please enjoy ^_^ !

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Lincoln Southwest High School to Holmes Lake Park . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
A beautiful day in December (very late fall)... today's trip takes us primarily along Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.'s very south edge, then towards the end we journey into Lincoln's southeastern suburbs.
Along the south edge of Lincoln, along Yankee Hill Road, we traverse in and out of the city itself. Not much development here yet being on the very edge of Lincoln. Then into Lincoln, on South 70th Street, we begin to go into more established suburban development... finally ending at Holmes Lake Park.
One side note about Holmes Lake Park - as I was driving by Holmes North Shore Rd., There is a newer sign... not sure when it was put in (maybe when the lake was renovated), but the sign says Holmes Lake Recreation Area. Huh??? Holmes Lake Park is now Holmes Lake Recreation area :p ? Probably not, but it make for an interesting contrast!
Anyways, please enjoy the ride!!!

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Waverly to the Lincoln Airport . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we go on a bit of an extended ride... from just outside & northeast of Waverly, Nebraska, U.S.A. on U.S. Highway 6 - all the way to the Lincoln Airport (LNK, formerly the Lincoln Municipal Airport and before that the Lincoln Air Force Base). Our route pretty much follows Cornhusker Highway all the way except for a brief turn towards the Lincoln Airport on W. Adams Street. Before numbered highways were established many years ago, U.S. 6 was the O-L-D (Omaha-Lincoln-Denver) Highway and later became the D-L-D (Detroit-Lincoln-Denver) Highway (and at one point I think Cornhusker Highway was even U.S. Hwy. 36 or 38 before becoming U.S. 6?). It's hard to say how much of the current highway is part of the old O-L-D... but hopefully at least a portion of it is. Highways were so chaotic back then!
Once we get into Lincoln, we can see how... old this entryway looks - almost like it did 50 years ago :p ! It seems not much has changed since the early days except for the addition of some businesses here and there. The only unfortunate thing about this is that for being a major entryway for Lincoln (to get from Interstate 80 into the city, you have to at least cross Cornhusker Hwy. at one point), being a bit run down, it doesn't leave a good first impression.
...but as ying is to yang, there is always an upside! Recently the city has announced a multi-million dollar beautification project along Cornhusker Hwy. from the Lincoln Airport to the I-180 interchange. Good thing :D ! As for the rest, we can always hope that one day reinvestment pays off ;) .....
Along Cornhusker, we do go past the main entryway to the Historic Havelock area and Uni Place (where U.S. 77 originally turned south at). Oh, one other thing... U.S. 6 at one time turned south at Cotner Boulevard into Havelock and towards Bethany which later became City Route 6. All good history!
Also good history, the Lincoln Airport was designated an emergency landing location for NASA's space shuttle fleet because of it's super long and wide runways! None did land here in all of those years. Anyways, if you want to fly out of one of the best airports in the U.S., it's this one! Quick, easy, convenient, friendly (if flying is anymore nowadays)... I like it much better than Omaha's! Now only if they could get more flights to and from LNK.....
Sorry about the bounciness on concrete - trying some new camera tricks.
Please enjoy the ride!
