Glenside Hospital Museum
Glenside Hospital Museum is housed in the former chapel attached to Bristol Lunatic Asulym. It contains artefacts and exhibits that illustrate just how far mental health understanding and care has come. It is a thought-provoking, atmospheric and sometimes chilling collection that is curated by dedicated volunteers. AWP staff explore some of the history behind modern approaches to mental illness in this short film by Greatful Productions.

Once a hospital for the mentally handicapped, Hortham Hospital closed in the 1980s and was left to fall into disrepair for over 20 years. Some people who have visited the site since its closure claim the hospital buildings are haunted by deceased former staff and patients.

Barrow Gurney Mental Hospital - Adventure #1
Hey guys we found Barrow Gurney Mental Hospital and we have a look around :P
IN THE UPCOMING PARTS : A BAT FLYS INTO A WALL, SAM TRIPS OVER, WE ALL GET LOST
Information about Barrow Gurney Mental Hospital : The hospital was first built between 1934-1937 with the first patients being admitted in 1938. Barrow was built in a more modern style than the nearby Bristol Mental Asylum - The Glenside, which was a huge imposing Victorian building built in the 1850's. Barrow was made up of lots of smaller buildings in a colony style.
During World War II the hospital was requisitioned by the British government as use as a Naval Hospital. In 1946 the Navy left and the hospital finally reverted back to its intentional use in late 1948.
Barrow is probably most famous for being the notorious 'Dirtiest hospital in Britain' in 2005. This was following a survey of all of the UK's hospitals and Barrow hospital had particular poor standards of hygiene. Of the three remaining residential wards, two were immediately closed down and the patients moved elsewhere.
Following this report the hospital rapidly closed its doors in 2006 and Barrow Hospital was left to decay.

Barrow Gurney Hospital
BARROW GURNEY:
Barrow Hospital (sometimes referred to as Barrow Gurney Hospital) was a psychiatric hospital in Barrow Gurney, Somerset, United Kingdom. By the mid-1920s, the existing City of Bristol Mental Hospital at Stapleton was suffering from serious overcrowding.[1] In addition, the Victorian hospital buildings were now considered too old-fashioned, having been built 'like large barracks' connected by corridors which allowed easy access for staff but provided 'little relief to those [patients] sensitive to their environment'.[2] Extensions to the buildings helped to alleviate the problem to some extent, but it was still abundantly clear that a second hospital would soon be needed. The Bristol Corporation's preferred site was on the nearby Oldbury Court Estate, but when sale negotiations broke down in 1928 the Corporation was forced to look elsewhere and instead purchased 260 acres of woodland called The Wild Country near Barrow Gurney for £20,000.
