Deptford Mall - Raw & Real Retail
This is our walkthrough of the Deptford Mall in Deptford, NJ from December 18, 2018. This is a big thriving mall with little competition to worry about in the area. There really isn't too much to say about this mall, it isn't hurting and is pretty standard, not terribly interesting either.

Here is some poorly cited info from Wikipedia:
The Deptford Mall is a major shopping mall in Deptford Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States. It is the seventh largest mall in the state of New Jersey. Owned and managed by Macerich, it is the county's only indoor regional shopping center. The mall is anchored by Boscov's, JCPenney, and Macy's and has over 160 stores. The mall is located off of Route 42 and Route 55 at County Route 544. The mall has a gross leasable area of 1,040,000 sq ft, making it the largest mall in the Gloucester County region, and placing it in the top eleven among the largest shopping malls in New Jersey.
The fully enclosed mall opened in August 1975 with three anchor stores — Sears, Bamberger's and Wanamaker's — and 150+ specialty stores.[2] In 1986, Bamberger's became Macy's. In 1995, the Wanamaker's store became Hecht's. Hecht's became Strawbridge's in 1997 after its parent company, May Department Stores, acquired the Strawbridge's chain. In 2000, construction began to build a JCPenney store as a fourth anchor, which opened on August 1, 2001. In 2006, the Strawbridge's store closed after Federated Department Stores acquired May Department Stores; the Strawbridge's was replaced by Boscov's.
On August 5, 1996, an armed gunman attempted to rob an armored vehicle inside the mall. During the shootout, the gunman and a 17-year-old youth were killed on the scene. A younger girl who was in critical condition after being hit by ricochet later died from her injuries at the hospital.
In January 2007, Macerich purchased the Deptford Mall for $241 million from Simon Property Group. In October 2015, Macerich sold a 49 percent stake in the Deptford Mall to Heitman.
By November 2012, the mall had completed its first renovation since the early 2000s with the vertical movement project, which involved removing the two escalators the mall had and removing stairs at each end and at the center of the mall. Escalators were added at each end of the mall and an elevator was located in the center, with corresponding stairs.
The floor was replaced throughout the mall. New chairs, booths, and tables were added in the food court along with a children's play area (in front of Jalapeño's). Also, the up escalator in the food court (across from JCPenney) is being replaced by an up and down escalator. Originally, the Deptford Mall did not have a food court; its eating establishments were spread throughout the mall.
In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Deptford Mall, into Seritage Growth Properties.
On October 15, 2018, it was announced the Sears store would be closing as part of a plan to close 142 stores nationwide as a result of the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The store closed in January 2019. The lower level of Sears will be replaced by Dick's Sporting Goods, which will relocate from its current location across the street on Almonesson Road.
In 2019, Round One Entertainment announced plans to occupy the upper level of the former Sears building by 2020.

Atlantic City Police Shootout With Armed Suspect 7/25/2017
(Shooting Starts At 11:09)
Atlantic City police chase and shootout was justified says Prosecutor in July 25, 2017
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office released dashboard camera footage of the March 2014 police-involved shooting death of Antoquan T. Watson, who led police on a 7-mile chase that ended in a hail of gunfire.
The footage was released after the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that dashcam footage of fatal police-involved shootings should be released in most cases as a matter of public interest.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and a nationally renowned expert on police use of force reviewed the evidence, including the footage, and concluded that the shooting was “lawful and consistent” with police guidelines and training.
The footage also was reviewed by an Atlantic County grand jury, which declined to indict any police officers for their actions.
The incident started when Watson, 27, of Williamstown, Gloucester County, tried to pay his bill at La Escondida II Restaurant in Pleasantville. After two credit cards were rejected and he didn’t have enough cash to cover his $8 bill, he pulled out a gun.
Watson led police on a chase from the restaurant through parts of Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic City, Ventnor and back into Atlantic City reaching speeds between 50 and 85 mph and running red lights.
Watson’s black SUV struck some vehicles on Atlantic Avenue at the intersection of Missouri Avenue at Tanger Outlets The Walk in Atlantic City and came to a stop.
Watson exited his car and fired his weapon in the direction of police officers. A total of seven officers, three from Pleasantville and four from Atlantic City, fired their weapons at Watson.
The autopsy revealed that Watson sustained a total of 45 gunshot wounds. The autopsy also revealed the existence of PCP in his system.

Gloucester Township Police- CBS 3 Story- K-9 Helps Find Missing Elderly Woman 5-19-2011
Gloucester Township Police- From CBS Philly's Website- Police Dog Helps Find Missing Elderly Woman In Camden County.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- A police dog in Camden County is being credited with helping to find a missing elderly woman early Thursday morning.
Gloucester Township Police say the 82-year-old, who suffers from dementia, wandered away from her home around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Police Officer Jim Clark and his K-9 partner Nero began an extensive search of the area for the woman. Eventually Officer Clark and Nero found the woman curled up on the ground about a quarter of a mile from her home at about 2 a.m.
The woman was conscious, but she was lost and confused. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of hypothermia. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Officials with the Gloucester Township Police Department say the actions of the officers involved and Nero helped to avert a possible tragedy.
Nero is a 4-year-old German Shepherd that was born in the Czech Republic. Nero and Officer Clark graduated from the Camden County Police Academy Basis K-9 Training Class in 2008. Nero is trained in Patrol and Narcotics Detection.
Officer Clark has been a Gloucester Township Police Officer since 2005. He has been a K-9 Handler with Nero since July 2008. Officer Clark is an eight-year veteran of the United States Air Force Security Forces, and was a U.S. Air Force K-9 Handler for five years.

2019 VSEA Annual Meeting Keynote Speaker: Jeff Bollen, UFCW Local 1445 President
Members and retirees in attendance at VSEA’s 75th Annual Meeting were treated to a rousing keynote address from UFCW Local 1445 President Jeff Bollen; a leader of the successful Stop & Shop strike in April 2019.
Here's a piece about Brother Bollen from the VSEA Annual Meeting WARN:
“We told the workers in advance when we were training them, ‘Don’t worry about how much food gets into the store; don’t worry about how many scabs they bring in from the outside. All you have to do is win over that customer that you wait on every week, and you will win.’ And that’s exactly what happened.”
For 11 days in April 2019, 30,000 Stop & Shop employees in three New England states went on strike against the supermarket chain, and today’s keynote speaker, UFCW Local 1445 President Jeff Bollen, was one of the strike’s principal leaders. As many VSEA members know, the employees’ strike ended in victory, and they were rewarded with a fair contract.
“Our union achieved a major victory in the face of efforts by management to decimate the contract,” Bollen told several news outlets, following ratification of the contract on April 20. “It’s a very, very good contract that provides across-the-board wage increases and defeats a slew of concessions sought by the company.”
Bollen will be sharing how his union mobilized its members to take action, how customer solidarity and other labor union’s support aided the strikers, what lessons were learned and what the victory means for organized labor nationwide.
Background:
Jeff Bollen grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts, graduated from English High, served in the U.S. Navy and then went to work in a union meat packing plant, where he was educated about unions and quickly signed up to be an Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union shop steward and bargaining team member. In 1981, Bollen was hired as an organizer for United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1445, and he was then appointed to be a business agent. Recognizing Bollen’s dedication and commitment to Local 1445’s members, he was then chosen to be the Local’s Secretary Treasurer. In 2015, Bollen was elected president of UFCW Local 1445, representing 13,000 members
