A short video I put together of our visit to Robbies on Islamorada, FL.
It is a wonderful place to visit, where tarpon have learned it's a
great place to get a quick free meal.... without the hooks. Lol
Over many years, the fish have learned Robbies is the place for food..
and there are some big ones that roam this marina, along with jacks,
mangrove snapper, and many other aquatic life. You'll just never know
what you might see here!
Enjoy the video, and if you have a chance to visit the keys, be sure to

Kingfish Trip In Islamorada Florida Keys Aboard Charter Boat Skipper
This is a video of my wife, Lyn, and I fishing offshore on the Atlantic side of Islamorada in the Florida Keys in mid-February of 1997. We had trolled for kings with Capt. Paul O'Donnell aboard his charter named the Skipper another time (see my channel) before and had a great time. We were after sailfish but caught several king mackerel or kings as they are known in the Keys using ballyhoo for bait near the Hump. At about 4:30 into this video, we had 3 fish on at once, so there is one minute of blank screen and you will have to fast forward it. It's always a great way to spend the day productively. I trailered (major hassle) my center console boat from our home on the Lake of the Ozarks to our condo in Islamorada to do a lot of fishing, but it just wasn't worth the time , effort, and expense when there are knowledgable people like Paul and his mate to get you on the fish fast. Islamorada is definitely the Sport Fishing Capital of the World! - This was video taped using a Canon E230 with a Sony Video8 cassette.
Kingfishing In The Sport Fishing Capital Of The World - Islamorada, Florida
We were on the fishing docks at Whale Harbor in Islamorada, Florida in early February of 1997 looking to schedule a charter boat for the day when we encountered a couple that was wanting to go offshore fishing, but they were wanting another couple to split the cost of the trip that very day with them. It seemed like a good idea because we hadn't fished with any of these captains at Whale Harbor in the sport fishing capital of the world before, so we agreed to go with them. My wife, Lyn, and I grabbed a day bag out of the Tahoe and were welcomed aboard a ship called Skipper by Capt. Paul O'Donnell and off we went. We made a short stop to cast a throw net for some fresh ballyhoo that the mate was going to rig for us. From there, it appeared we were heading towards a well-known spot in the Keys called The Hump. We each caught several king mackerel or kingfish and kings as they are known in the Florida Keys. We had a great time and scheduled another trip with Paul about a week later. I have another short video on my channel of that trip, too.

Mahi Mahi Fishing in the Florida Keys | Fishing for Dolphin
Mahi Mahi Fishing in Florida at its best! It’s Christmas morning and we want to wish everyone a very Mahi Christmas. I mean Merry Christmas, but today its Mahi for us. We head offshore ad hook up on some fantastic Mahi Mahi, or Dorado, or dolphin (the fish, not the mammal) depending on where your located. Same fish, just different names. There probably aren’t much prettier fish in the ocean than Mahi and when a cute girl is catching them, that pretty much put the icing on top. We have an epic few hours. We slept late, slayed the fish, and made it home early. What’s not to love about that!

Deep dropping for blackbelly rosefish
When nothing else is biting, catch these small, tasty fish on the bottom of the ocean in 800 feet
September 13, 2012|By Steve Waters, Sun Sentinel
There are days when all an offshore angler wants to do is to come home with some fish for dinner.
But what's that angler to do when tasty species such as dolphin, cobia, tuna, snapper and grouper aren't biting?
That's when it's time to go deep for blackbelly rosefish.
For Capt. Mario Cote´and his son Capt. Kevin Cote´, who offer charter fishing trips out of Port Everglades Inlet on No Vacansea, deep dropping is almost always a sure way to guarantee fresh fish for the table.
Two weeks ago the two men, of Hollywood, had run more than a dozen miles offshore in search of dolphin, but the colorful fish were just not around. There were no weedlines or pieces of floating debris, which attract baitfish that attract dolphin. And the only birds they saw also were looking for fish.
Wanting to provide something for their guest to bring home, and since they were already out pretty far, they decided to stop in 800 feet off Hollywood on the way in and do some deep dropping.
While Mario used the boat's GPS unit to call up productive spots, Kevin set up their electric fishing outfit.
He clipped on a leader with five circle hooks and baited each with a piece of squid. Then he clipped a heavy, cylindrical lead weight to the end of the leader to get the baits to the bottom.
Soon after the weight touched down, the tip of the bent-butt rod, which Kevin left in the rod-holder, twitched a couple of times. He slowly cranked up some of the 80-pound braided line to entice a few more fish to bite, then hit the switch to turn on the reel and let it bring up the fish the rest of the way.
When the leader hit the rod tip, Kevin turned off the reel and lifted four blackbelly rosefish into the boat.
The bright reddish-orange fish don't get very big — 15 inches would be considered good-sized — but their firm, white fillets are delicious, something their guest confirmed a few days later when he called to say that the rosefish were the best fish he'd ever eaten.

Sport Fishing In the Florida Keys
Since the early 1900s famous names in fishing like Zane Grey and Ernest Hemingway have focused world wide attention on light tackle sport fishing in the Florida Keys. Today, the Keys are a mecca for all types of anglers....from bridge fishermen to United States Presidents. It's here in the Florida Keys that Flying Fisherman Sunglasses were born out of necessity to provide quality, affordable polarized eyewear for sport fishing enthusiasts and professionals.

A flash of gold in the depths is often the angler’s first sight. Dark fins indicate a blackfin tuna, not the similar—and potentially much larger—yellowfin. The species overlap in some waters off Florida.
Over the years, Florida Sportsman has covered the ins and outs of the blackfin tuna fishery around the Florida coastline: Places these fish are historically abundant, such as the famous Humps in the Florida Keys; the shrimp fleet in the Gulf of Mexico; bluewater ledges off Northeast Florida. We’ve researched baits that are productive—from live sardines to ballyhoo, small trolling plugs to streamer flies. We’ve covered the advent of fluorocarbon leader material, its low refractive index apparently conducive to fooling the sharp-eyed blackfins.
There are scattered records of blackfin tuna occurring as far north as Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, but the usual range is from North Carolina to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, including the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
The pectoral fins reach to somewhere between the twelfth dorsal spine and the origin of the second dorsal fin but they never extend beyond the second dorsal fin as in the albacore. There is a total of 19-25 (usually 21-23) gill rakers on the first arch (15-19 are on the lower limb), which is fewer than in any other species of Thunnus. The finlets are uniformly dark, without a touch of the bright lemon yellow usually present in those of other tunas. Light bars alternate with light spots on the lower flanks.
This is a pelagic, schooling fish that generally feeds near the surface. Its diet consists of small fishes, squid, crustaceans, and plankton. An excellent light tackle species, it can be taken by trolling or casting small baits or lures, including ballyhoo, mullet and other small fishes as well as strip baits, spoons, feathers, jigs, or plugs; or by live bait fishing from boats at the surface of deep waters one to two miles offshore. It has some local commercial importance, but is predominantly an angler's fish. It is a spunky game species and the flesh is of good quality and flavor

Kingfish, Cobia and Snappers - Offshore Fishing in Florida - 4K
I went offshore fishing in Cape Canaveral for Kingfish, Cobia and Red Snappers with Capt. Scott Lum and Corey Pagano from Tackle Crafters. We started the day off netting bait in the Port. Once we filled our live wells, we headed offshore and started fishing for kingfish. After catching half a dozen kings, we moved inshore to a shallow wreck to go fishing for red snappers and cobia.

I find a cut leading from the bayside to the ocean side here in Key largo. When the tide is running out strong and there was a recent full moon and cold front it's time to catch n cook some shrimp!
I love key largo and all the bounty it has brought me. I love to catch and cook everything here. I catch a swordfish in a video I am uploading shortly just so you know! Key Largo, Florida produces once again!
Ps: I would have filled my cooler catching shrimp, but it was very cold and I thought that catching shrimp I will do again later this week and will post an even better video. So this can be a catch n cook appetizer video and i'll give even better instructions on how to catch shrimp in key largo and catch and cook the shrimp in a video later this week!
I make peel and eat shrimp and I also make some blackened shrimp.
