Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Tour in Cusco
The Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain (5200 m/17,060 ft.) is without a doubt one of the top places to visit in Cusco. Since the rainbow mountain has been discovered some years ago, it has gained increasing popularity so that during high season up to 2000 people per day visit this beauty.
That’s why during our private tour to the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain (for more info check we leave early in the morning so that we get to the mountain before the big crowds arrive. After 1.5-2 hours of hiking the Vinicunca trek, you will get to the rainbow mountain and you can enjoy this unique view.
However, unlike the tours of other agencies, our tour doesn’t stop here! We don’t just go to the viewpoint of the Red Valley but we also enter it and hike all the way through it. Get ready for an out of this world landscape that will make you speechless, guaranteed! You will see red mountains, alpacas and with some luck even condors flying in the air. The best about it all is that there won’t be any tourists around, meaning you get to enjoy this landscape all to yourself.
We recommend that you are in good shape for this hike as the total distance is around 10 km (6 miles). If you don’t want to hike all the way up to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, you can also take a horse that brings you close to the top for around S/ 65-80.
If you are looking for an easier hike, you are welcome to check out our Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo tour ( In this tour, the hike is a lot easier and shorter. Apart from that, there are almost no tourists around and we also visit the local community, where you have the chance to learn more about the lifestyle of the locals.
To get a better understanding of the differences between the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain and the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain tour, you can review our blog post (
Are you ready for an unforgettable experience in the Andean mountains?

Peru pt4: Cusco! Ruins, markets and awesome food.
We ended up spending a couple weeks in Cusco, kind of relaxing and seeing things at the same time. We both really enjoyed Cusco, it has a cool laid back vibe but plenty going on if you want it, and of course it is the jumping off spot for loads of tours.
As you can tell by the video, we really enjoyed the food there, and found some great local places to eat around Cusco, as well as way too many desserts...
From Cusco we went to several sites, including Saqsaywaman, Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo, the Maras sault mines and Pisca, and of course explored some of the great ruins lying beneath or making a part of Cusco's foundations. And a pretty good museum to boot. Culture vultures that we are we also tried to find the markets we could and eat like the locals, fortunately for me the locals seem to love cake, deep fried dough with sugar, and banana boats...
Cusco is also of course the stepping off point for Machu Pichu, and we found a great company with decent prices called Machu Pichu Reservations, but that is for the next video.
Hikes & Things to do in Cusco, Peru (incl. Machu Picchu, Lares Trek, Rainbow Mt, Humantay…)
I show you some of the best things to do in Cusco and the Cusco region with its many Inca sites and beautiful multi day treks in this episode from Peru in partnership with G Adventures.

MY CAMERA EQUIPMENT
▸ Cam1:Sony RX 100 V
▸ Cam2:Sony A7 II
▸ Joby Gorillapod
▸ Audio Recorder: Zoom H2n
▸ SDHC Memory Card
▸ Waterproof Memory Card Case
▸ Backpack Osprey Farpoint 40
To produce this video I spent almost 2 weeks in the Cusco region in order to provide a wide selection of activities I recommend doing on your trip to Peru. Because it was my second time after my first visit in 2012 I chose to introduce an alternative Machu Picchu experience with the Lares Trek - for this part I worked together with G Adventures and decided to extend my stay to do all the other things independently.
Cusco and the area around is full of history and beautiful landscape which makes it worth it to spend about 1-2 weeks in the region. For your time you should definitely take on some day hikes or go for one of the multi day hikes which end up taking you to Machu Picchu. What many don’t know: a multi day hike to go to Machu Picchu is the most budget friendly option if you look at the price-value ratio!
The things to do in Cusco I covered here is a selection of my personal favorites and offers a good mix of historic sites, hikes (partially in very high altitude), food experiences and panoramic views which will leave you speechless. Moreover I also focussed on some community projects which are connected to G Adventures and their NGO Planeterra.
Things to do in Cusco featured in this episode:
- Old town of Cusco / Cuzco
- Saksaywaman / Sacsayhuaman
- La Cusquenita (restaurant)
- Barrio San Blas
- Barrio Ceviche (restaurant)
- San Pedro market
- Jack’s Cafe (restaurant)
- Rainbow mountain / Vinicunca
- Sacred Valley (part of G Adventures Lares Trek tour)
- Pisaq
- Ollantaytambo
- Parwa restaurant
- Lares trek
- train to Aguas Calientes
- Machu Picchu
- Humantay lake (first day of Salkantay trek)
About my Cooperation with G Adventures
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers tours in South America which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Eating and Drinking in Cusco Peru I Peru Travel Vlog
On today's travel vlog, we find the best places to eat in Cusco; and the best places to drink pisco sour.
My photos from Cusco are on my Instagram (@brendanvanson).
We made the trip from Puno to Cusco, Peru in this episode of the vlog. The drive took way longer than it should have, to be honest. It was actually the strangest thing ever. I've never had a driver in Peru go so slow. There was no traffic, but we just cruised along so slowly. In fact, we were about 2 hours late getting to Cusco.
When we finally arrived, we basically headed right out to eat. Jeff took the group to what's famously known as the best place to eat in Cusco. The restaurant is called Cafe Morena, and it is on point. It was definitely the best food I've had in town. So, I can see why so many people claim it to be the best place to eat in Cusco. And, it's not like the food scene in Cusco is something shabby. It is on point. The city is definitely turning into a foodie hub.
After dinner at Cafe Morena, we headed out in the search of the best pisco sour in Cusco. Again, Jeff led us in the right direction. We eventually ended up at a pisco sour bar which had all sorts of crazy versions of the Peruvian national drink.
Chris, who had spaghetti at the best restaurant in Cusco, tried to redeem himself in the exotic category by getting a spicy aji pisco sour. I wasn't much smarter. I got a rocoto and maracuya pisco sour which was just as spicy. I probably should have gone with a classic version of the Peruvian national drink.
At the end of the day, we managed to figure out where to eat in Cusco, and where to have the best pisco sour. So, even though we were late to town, it was a pretty good day.
There will be another travel vlog from Peru tomorrow, so stay tuned for more Cusco episodes.

15 Things to do in Cusco Travel Guide
Many travelers to Cusco use the city as a launching pad to hike the Inca trail, visit Machu Picchu and/or explore the Sacred Valley. With so many travel options just outside of the city it is easy to forget that Cuzco has a lot to offer in and of itself. The following Cusco travel guide is our attempt to showcase what the city has to offer in terms of attractions, things to do, shopping, dining, museums and nightlife. In our opinion, you'll want to budget several days to take it all in and acclimatize to the higher altitude if you're thinking of going on hiking excursions afterwards.
Our visit Cusco travel guide covers some of the top attractions including the best in arts, entertainment, museums, nightlife and restaurants. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't find in your typical tourism brochure or Cusco city guide.
1) Cusco Cathedral (Viracocha) - Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin (Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus)
2) Inca Wall
3) Traditional Peruvian Folk Dance at Centro Qosqo
4) Barrio de San Blas Neighborhood
5) Artisan Market on Ave del Sol
6) Cusco Food (Alpaca meat skewers - alpaca a la parrilla
7) Pisco Museum (Museo del Pisco)
8) Plaza de Armas (Square of the warrior)
9) Inca Museum (Museo Inka)
10) Chocolate Museum (ChocoMuseo)
11) Temple of the Sun (Qurikancha)
12) Templo de la Compañía de Jesús (Jesuit Church)
13) Cuy - eating Guinea pig for dinner
14) El Templo de la Merced del Cusco
15) Nightlife in Cusco - drinking a pisco sour
Alternate Cuzco/Cusco spelling: (Quechua: Qusqu or Qosqo)
15 Things to do in Cusco, Peru | Top Attractions Travel Guide:
If you're planning to walk the Inca Trail or visit Machu Picchu, you'll likely end up spending at least a few days in Cuzco. With it's lively square, quirky museums, artisans markets and traditional performances, this is exactly the type of destination you'll want to linger in...plus let's not forget, it's also a good place to adjust to the altitude! The following video will showcase 15 things to do in Cuzco:
Cuzco Cathedral is a place you shouldn't miss. The cathedral sits on the site of Viracocha Inca’s palace, and it was also built using blocks from the nearby Inca site of Sacsaywamán. Inside you'll find impressive works of art done in the cuzqueña style.
In the evenings, you can go watch a traditional dance performance at Centro Qosqo.
San Blas
San Blas is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Cuzco and it is a great area to explore on foot. The neighbourhood is known for its bright blue doors and window shutters, and it has a nice little square with a church and a water fountain. The neighbourhood has some really cool lookout points with great panoramic views of Cuzco, so you'll want to bring your camera.
Plaza de Armas is the beating heart of Cuzco. The square is flanked by a Jesuit church and cathedral, and there are also plenty of bars, restaurants, and tour agencies around the perimeter. During the day you'll find locals and tourists hanging out in the square, and if you get lucky, you might just encounter a performance followed by a demonstration like we did.
The Inca Museum is one of the main museums in town and it has rooms dedicated to different periods of Inca and Spanish history. You can also see women weaving rugs and tapestries by hand in the central courtyard.
Qurikancha was an Inca temple built to the Sun God, Inti, and it is believed that the walls of this temple were once covered in sheets of gold. If the temple looks like it has various layers of construction, that's because when the Spaniards arrived, they demolished the original temple and used the foundations to build the Church of Santo Domingo on the site.
The Church of the Society of Jesus is a historic Jesuit church. It's worth a quick visit if you're in the area.
Templo de la Merced is another church located one block from Plaza de Armas, and it contains the tomb of two famous conquistadors.
And that's a wrap for Cuzco! We hope you enjoyed this video and that it showed you a few of the places you can visit while you're in the city. We recommend spending at least 3 days here, or perhaps a few more if you also want to tour the Sacred Valley. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do in Cuzco, feel free to share those in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people. All things Peruano. The best of Comida Peruana and Cocina Peruana.

SUNDAY PISAC MARKET | Sacred Valley of the Incas | Cusco Day Trip to Pisac Peru
Part 1 of our day trip to Pisac, Peru.
Today, we boarded a colectivo (shared bus) to do one of the most popular Cusco Day Trips, a day visit to Pisac Market. This Cusco to Pisac ride costs only 5 Peruvian Soles, or less than 1.50 USD!
The Market in Pisac is considered to be one of the must visits in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It's the the biggest market in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Due to its popularity, this market in Pisac happens three times a week (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays). But the Sunday Pisac Market is still the best day to experience this colorful place.
At 11 am, they have a Catholic mass at the Iglesia de San Pedro Apostol, the main church in Pisac. The mass is in the Quechua language, and locals show up in colorful traditional Andean clothing.
We also visited the Horno Colonial San Francisco, one of the communal ovens in town. It is a clay oven, mainly to cook cui (guinea pig) or empanadas. A very interesting scene to check out in Pisaq!
This is part 1 of our Pisac Day Trip, which only includes the Pisac Market on Sunday. Part 2 is coming up next, which will take you on a two-hour hike to the Pisac Ruins.
For more on Day trip to Pisac from Cusco, tips on what to do and what to expect, check out our blog post: Day Trip To Pisac From Cusco – See The Pisac Market and Ruins

PERU: ULTIMATE San Pedro Market + STREET FOOD Tour in Cusco | Peru 2019 Vlog
San Pedro Market in Cusco, Peru as some of the best street food, groceries and incredible gifts. #Cusco #Peru #PeruvianFood #streetfood
The San Pedro Market in Cusco, Peru is very close to Plaza De Armas. It's about a 10 minute walk.
Peru is know for having some of the world’s great cuisines, and we were so excited have a chance to visit Peru to learn about and taste the food. In this video, get ready for an ultimate tour of San Pedro Market and all her glory ..including her street food.
Here’s everything included in this tour:
*** I mispronounced the fruit smoothie I had it's not Lume it's Lúcuma, or in Quechua Lucma which is a native Andean fruit, with a flavor that is deep and reminiscent of meat or some say sweet potato like, while still sweet and fruity. Peruvian government has named it a signature fruit of Peru.
San Pedro Market - If you love vegetable markets, I don’t think anywhere else in Cusco is as colorful, energetic, and vibrant. This place is unreal we fully enjoyed walking around and seeing the diversity of ingredients from around Peru all in one busy wholesale Market.
Breakfast and Coffee - We can't remember the name of the shop but there's a section specifically for breakfast and coffee. Just ask for the cream sandwich made from the milk. They'll know what you're talking about.
Smoothies - There is a section dedicated to smoothies. Many stands worked by women who will basically shake a menu in your face to get you to order from their stand which all had numbers in front.. It's pretty incredible how this is done. The smoothie I had was made with the Amazon fruit called Lucma, con leche. Dave had a mango and passion fruit smoothie. Both extremely fresh tasting and delicious. Highly recommended.
Ceviche- This is one of the most common of all Peru street food. Ceviche is caught daily and should always be consumed by early afternoon. We were impressed with how fresh tasting the fish was. We didn't have ceviche at the San Pedro Market but a place called Cevicheria & Tiburoncito was pretty busy so we're assuming it's good.
Caldos de Gallina
The chicken soup they served here was huge. They put all kinds of tasty ingredients and spices along with the chicken and sometimes they even serve that chicken with the feet. So if you don't want to see chicken feet in your soup then go ahead and tell them when you place your order that you don't want the feet. Maybe you like the feet. We don't.
Textiles - There are so many stations of textiles for you to chose. Don't be afraid to negotiate on the prices. They shops all start their prices high, especially if they know you're a gringo. So definitely do some negotiating. They totally expect that.
In this video we'll give you some great tips and advice if you and/or family plan to visit San Pedro Market.

AMAZING PERU SALT MINES | Chinchero, Salinas de Maras, and Moray Peru | Cusco Day Trip
On this vlog, we are doing what we think is the prettiest Cusco Day Trip of all! We visit three different sites in the northwest part of the Sacred Valley Peru:
1. Chinchero Andean village
2. Moray Peru (or, specifically the Moray Ruins)
3. Salinas de Maras (or, the Salineras de Maras - Maras Salt Mines)
The Chinchero colonial town has some of the best views overlooking the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and it is believed to be the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. There is a beautiful church that you must visit, as well as a colorful Peruvian textile market that rivals the Pisac Market.
The Moray Ruins is an archaeological site that served as an Inca experimental farm during the sixteenth century. Different levels of platforms were created with different soil types, brought from all over Peru, as an experiment to try to create the perfect condition for farming in Peru.
Finally, we went to the Salineras de Maras - or the Maras Salt Ponds. Maras Salt Mines Peru was built on a side of a cliff and have been in production for hundreds of years, producing the high quality Pink Marasal Salt.
