The Gorge Waterway in Victoria BC Canada is a saltwater inlet connecting Victoria Harbour to Portage Inlet. Video taken from Tillicum Bridge looking towards Curtis Point, one of 3 places along the Gorge where people were gathered for the 2012 Swimfest to celebrate the nice swimming available after community groups cleaned up the Gorge several years ago. Victoria BC Around 7 AM on Sunday July Fourth I stopped along the Gorge Waterway in Victoria to take my dog Winston for a walk, I then took this video of the Gorge waterway. Cloudy morning with a slight breeze. It's supposed to be hot later in the day and the week ahead in Victoria.

The Gorge is a long inlet that stretches from Victoria's famous main harbour. It's a wonderful recreational waterway with an interesting history. Every day you can see canoes, kayaks, dragon boats, scullers, and all kinds of watercraft, mostly without motors, so the Gorge seems always quiet and peaceful.

The Gorge was for many years the primary swimming location for Victoria including a tall diving platform at Curtis Point. By the 1930s the pollution levels were too high to allow for swimming. In recent years the work to clean the waterway has led to a return to swimming in the waterway.
