Grand Canyon hike: Old Grandview Trail
Now referred-to as a part of the Old Grandview Trail, this route was rediscovered by Harvey Butchart in the late 1950s. It is now commonly believed that this route is the lower section of the original Berry Trail, now called the Grandview Trail.
The trail is steep but well-cairned and well-defined as it leads down to a very small beach area at the Colorado River.

Grand Canyon Overnight Backpacking Trip | Arizona, USA
We loved this hike! Exploring the immense landscape of the Grand Canyon was one of the coolest things we’ve done to date on our round the world trip.
We started our hike at the South Kaibab trailhead on the south rim, hiked 7 miles down to the Colorado river and camped overnight at Bright Angel Campground. Alternative accommodation if you don’t want to camp is at nearby Phantom Ranch. If you do hike the South Kaibab it’s important to remember there are no water sources until you reach Bright Angel campground. The next day we hiked up the Bright Angel trail for 9 miles to the Bright Angel trailhead. There are plentiful water sources along this trail.
To obtain our camping spot at Bright Angel we had to apply via either fax or post (we know, dated!). We opted for post. We were very lucky to get our first choice of dates.
Hopefully this video is helpful for anyone else interested in doing this.

On March 20, 2017, Steve and his five oldest kids hiked down to the bottom of the grand canyon on a 3-day backpacking trip. The first day, we hiked down the S. Kaibab Trail to Bright Angel Campground; the second day we hiked from the Bright Angel Campground to Indian Gardens; and the third day we hiked back to the rim via the Bright Angel Trail. The total hike was approximately 18 miles with a total elevation change of close to 9,000 ft. It was certainly one of the most challenging hikes we ever took, but we had such a great time, we're already planning on another Grand Canyon adventure.
Grand Canyon National Park ~ Williams Arizona
While traveling through Arizona we stopped in Williams and stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park. During our stay there we explored the town of Williams and discovered that a portion of Historic Route 66 ran right through the town. We inquired around and got a map to see how far we could go on the old highway. After leaving Williams, we headed for the National Park and spent 3 days exploring and hiking. What an adventure!

Grand Canyon - Bright Angel Trail - FULL VIDEO TOUR
Bright Angel Trail is THE trail which descends into the Grand Canyon from the South Rim (The South Rim is the most frequented destination as it has the famous horseshoe bend etc). We started really late in the afternoon, so we hiked until the darkness caught us. It's crazy how sudden elevation loss can make you feel extremely dizzy and woozy. Climbing back up and out can also instantly make you feel better. Definately a strange experience with that. There were campgrounds along the way (Which you need to pre-book) and also toilets etc. If you make it to the bottom, you can also hike back up the North Kaibab Trail (to the North Rim) and make it an incredibly long hike.

The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa, Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Bidááʼ Haʼaztʼiʼ Tsékooh, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

Grand Canyon Hike - New Hance Trail, Arizona
The New Hance Trail is one of the oldest and supposedly most difficult trail leading to the Colorado River from the south rim. It was made by the first European to settle along the canyon rim in 1893. it is the shortest of the backcountry trails to the river and descends roughly 4,500 feet in only seven miles.
While the other marked trails attract huge crowds, the New Hance Trail can be hiked all day with only seeing a few other hikers. There is no established trail-head, and along the south rim road there are no-parking signs or pull-out areas where the trail meets the road. However, a few hundred feet west of the trail there is an unimproved pull-out area where a few cars can park. The trail is still in great shape, and although steep, only a few sections approach a class three scramble. If you are a serious hiker that really enjoys fantastic scenery without the crowds, this is it!
