First day of my solo canoe trip in the Canadian Shield near Cranberry Portage, Manitoba, Canada. Getting there, paddling in the wind, shelter from the rain, and an quick overview of what I am carrying with me.
First Cranberry Lake - Cranberry Portage Manitoba Winter Mavic Pro Drone Adventures

This flight took place over a lake called First Cranberry Lake. It is part of the Grass River Provincial Park in Northern Manitoba. The lake connects to multiple other lakes and rivers that make their way to Northern Manitoba and the Thompson Region.
For me when wanting to drone lately I have to find that moment of time where I can take the drone for a flight. Sometimes the days are not always sunny and perfect and this was one of those days where it was not. With it being cloudy and all I made the choice to fly the Mavic Pro and see what I could create from the footage.
I like winter flying (on warm enough days) and it can be fun to see the snow and ice but I find that my area of the world is very bland in the winter with the boreal forest having a grey/black look to it. Cranberry Portage is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district located in the Rural Municipality of Kelsey, Manitoba. It was an important part of the pre-European contact trade routes of the Cree and Assiniboine peoples. Long before the fur trade with the Bay and during the Fur Trade, this location was used as a campsite and portage between Grassy River, at the head of a number of well-used routes from Hudson Bay, and Lake Athapapuskow, which connected to the Saskatchewan River system.

Cranberry Portage and the surrounding area of lakes rivers and streams are an amazing sight to behold. I love exploring the landscape and waterways around my hometown! Explore Northern Manitoba! Mistik Creek off of Highway 10 north to Flin Flon Manitoba is one of my favorite spots to fly my Mavic Pro. I love how the creek winds around the bend and the views are spectacular!
