(From wiki):
The residential and commercial area that is now the Old Quarter came to be during the Lý and Trần dynasties and was then located east of the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long and along the Red River. During the Lê dynasty, scholar Nguyễn Trãi already mentioned some of the areas each specialized in one particular trade. It was then surrounded by a defensive wall with several gates.
During the Lý and Trần dynasties, many people from the surrounding plains migrated to the city and settled in what is now the Old Quarter, creating the densest urban area of the city. The Lê dynasty period saw an additional influx of Chinese immigrants who arrived to trade, creating several Chinese neighbourhoods..
When the French ruled over Vietnam, they partially rebuilt the area. This period saw many French and Indians settling there to conduct business. Two small markets were demolished to make place for Đồng Xuân Market. Furthermore a tramway was constructed through the quarter.
The area is still the commercial heart of Hanoi.

Hanoi, Vietnam Capital City - Top Places To Visit In The World
Hello, and welcome to Top Places To Visit In The World, Youtube Channel, where you can find great suggestions for your near, or future trips. It's Jenny. And, I'm so happy to introduce to you such a great place to visit in southeast asia.
Yeah, we're back to Vietnam. A beautiful and peaceful country. And, The place we choose to visit today, is, yeah. It's Hanoi, Vietnam Capital City.
So now, let's go.
Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and the country's second largest city. Its population in 2009 was estimated at 2.6 million for urban districts and 7 million for the metropolitan jurisdiction. The population in 2015 was estimated at 7.7 million people. From 1010 until 1802, it was the most important political centre of Vietnam. It was eclipsed by Hue, the imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802–1945), but Hanoi served as the capital of French Indochina from 1902 to 1954. From 1954 to 1976, it was the capital of North Vietnam, and it became the capital of a reunified Vietnam in 1976, after the North's victory in the Vietnam War.

Vietnam Travel Guide: Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ho Chi Minh
Gorgeous beaches, fascinating and complicated history, incredible food, lush nature; Vietnam is a country that truly has it all. Whether this country is first or fiftieth on your list, our travel guide has all the information you need to know if you’re planning (or dreaming of planning!) a trip to Vietnam.
Leave your expectations behind if you’re heading to Vietnam: here, you’ll eat noodles for breakfast, do your shopping in the middle of the night, and discover a country with a new story around every corner.
Hanoi more than delivers on urban excitement. If you’re looking for unique and mouth-watering food, the night markets of the Vietnamese capital should be your very first stop. You can enjoy a zippy ride on a scooter, all the street-food you can eat, and a night exploring the rapid development of this modern city. From trendy clubs to traditional puppet shows, experience a nightlife that’s all Vietnam’s own, and eat and drink the night away with locals and visitors alike!
Of course, Vietnam isn’t all fast-paced cities and rooftop bars. For a slower pace, head to Ha Long Bay and sail alongside limestone islets, with their lush rainforests towering above your head. The water is emerald-green, matching the vibrant greenery, and a sailing excursion here is like nothing else you’ve experienced before! A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the islets of Ha Long Bay are said have been thrown into the bay by a dragon protecting the people of Vietnam. Take a junk boat tour for a close encounter, or try scuba diving or snorkelling in the bay!
You’ll find a new adventure around every corner in Vietnam. From breakfast in the Bình Tây Market and a secret tunnel system in Ho Chi Minh City, to sailing along the Mekong Delta in a traditional basket boat, you can find your perfect trip - no matter what that looks like - somewhere in Vietnam.
There’s no time like the present to start planning an adventure of your own in this majestic country, so why not start today? Head over to TourRadar to explore the range of tours available, or watch more of our videos exploring Vietnam if you still haven’t gotten enough of seeing the beautiful views and incredible adventures you could be having.

Hi! We grew up on opposite ends of the United States in Texas and Ohio. Later in college, we met and got married in August of 2016. As poor newly weds and recent college grads, we moved to New York City to begin what we thought would be our long careers in finance. Only one year later, after accumulating over 2 million miles and points through travel hacking, we booked round-the-world business class tickets to over 40 countries for free. We quit our jobs, sold everything we owned, and began this once-in-a-lifetime adventure on August 27, 2018. Chad has always loved creating home videos to hold onto the memories we share while traveling, so we started this YouTube channel as a place to share our adventures with friends and family. We hope you'll join our journey to exciting countries and experiences around the world!

Vietnam | Hanoi City Tour
Although it is the modern-day capital of Vietnam, Hanoi still retains the mystery and charm of past centuries. Narrow lanes and traditional shop houses invite an exciting exploration by walking, while its many beautiful public spaces - lakes, parks, tree-lined boulevards and monuments - give the city an air of elegance and harmony with nature unique among Asian capitals.

If Ho Chi Minh City is the cosmopolitan hub of Vietnam, then Hanoi is center of tradition and culture. While the city is sprawling, many parts retain its old city feel.
I started the day strolling through the Old Quarter, the tourist center of the city where many restaurant, shops, and bars can be found. I stopped by Ca Phe Pho Co, a wonderful cafe with a view of Hoan Kiem Lake, that serves egg milk cofffee. Then, I made a pass around the lake, stopping by the Temple of the Jade Mountain and learning a little bit about local ancient folklore. From there, I headed to lunch at the Hanoi Social Club, a cafe retreat that serves a delicious Western menu. Next I made my way to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, though I could get into the building because it's closed in the afternoons. And then it was just a short stretch to the stellar West Lake, where many people go for outdoor recreation and socializing. In the middle of the Lake is Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest temple in Hanoi. Finally, I ended the day with a blind massage and a delicious bowl of bun bo nam bo! I'd say it was a pretty good day!

Hanoi - The City For Peace | Beautiful Vietnam | Flycam 4K
➥ Description:
2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Hanoi being recognized as a ‘City for Peace’ by UNESCO. In 1999 Hanoi was the only Asia Pacific country granted this title by UNESCO.
Since early this year, the city authorities have carried out numerous activities to mark the occasion, including major cultural events involving many countries worldwide. A highlight of these was the Open Hanoi Dragon Boat Racing Festival 2019 earlier this month, attracting many foreign athletes.
We’ve taken a series of solutions to make Hanoi cleaner and greener. The city has also issued two codes of conduct for Hanoi city dwellers to preserve and promote their beautiful manners, said Hanoi Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung.
Hanoi currently maintains friendly cooperation with more than 100 capitals and cities worldwide. The city has proved to be a global responsible member with its rising prestige at many important international forums.
Hanoi’s celebrations of its 20th anniversary of receiving the title “City for Peace” coincides with the 2nd DPRK-US summit, scheduled for this Wednesday and Thursday. The summit is considered a great opportunity for Hanoi to promote its image to the world as an active city rich in history that favors peace. Preparations for the upcoming summit are almost completed, according to Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung.
A huge workload in preparations for the summit has almost been completed. Decorations for all routes connecting Noi Bai airport with the city center, major roads, and hotels in downtown Hanoi have been finished. This includes 4,000 welcoming gates, 500,000 vases of flowers and 4,000 poles displaying flags of Vietnam, the US, and the DPRK, said Chung.
The historic Trump-Kim summit in Hanoi is expected to create a remarkable breakthrough for peace negotiations on the Korean peninsula.
