Hayao Miyazaki's Giant Clock in Shiodome, Tokyo, Japan
The clock puts on a show every few hours.
The Giant Ghibli Clock - Nittele Big Clock
For a Ghibli fan heading to Japan, Mitaka is a the natural place to go for a pilgrimage to the Ghibli Museum. However the modern Tokyo district of Shiodome should not be overlooked for something something interesting and entertaining: the Nittele Big Clock (Nippon TV Really Big Clock).
Designed by anime director Hayao Miyazaki, it looks like something out of Howl's Moving Castle. The installation is 10 meters tall and 18 meters wide, weighing in at 28 tons. It was sculpted by Shachimaru Kunio, who was also responsible for the Robot Solider (from Castle in the Sky) at the Ghibli Museum.
The attention to detail on the clock is amazing. The copper clock springs to life every few hours, playing music and a special clockwork sequence. Clockwork people appear out of doors and get to work with hammering anvils and such.
The clock is located halfway between Shiodome and Shimbashi Stations on the front of the Nippon TV Tower.
It springs to life Monday to Friday: 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 20:00, while on Saturday and Sunday it also chimes at 10:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 20:00.
There are many videos of the clock in action during the day on the internet, but we wanted to grab something at night time.
We suggest you get to the clock 4 minutes before the hour as that's roughly when the performance will start.

Check out my previous video about Shimbashi's Locomotive Antique Train Christmas Illumination. This illumination was beautiful. When the Christmas music was playing, the lights changed colors constantly.
In this current video, I watch the musical clock perform at night at Tokyo's Nippon TV Tower. It was an awesome performance and I would highly recommend the night performance. You can check out my video about the musical clock performance during the day time at

Shiodome, a new sophisticated business town :汐留
If I'm not wrong it was about 2003 that a site of a JR station for cargo trains began to be converted into a business town. Ever since with the influx of such major corporation as Nippon Television Network Corporation, Dentsu Inc. it has become an extremely modern business town.

Yurikamome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
New Transit Yurikamome (新交通ゆりかもめ Shinkōtsū Yurikamome), formally the Tokyo Waterfront New Transit Waterfront Line (東京臨海新交通臨海線 Tōkyō Rinkai Shinkōtsū Rinkai-sen?) is an automated guideway transit service operated by the Tokyo Waterfront New Transit Corporation, connecting Shimbashi to Toyosu, via the artificial island of Odaiba in Tokyo, Japan, a market in which it competes with the Rinkai Line.
The line is named after the black-headed seagull (yurikamome in Japanese), a common denizen of Tokyo Bay and the official prefectural bird.
Technology
The Yurikamome is Tokyo's first fully automated transit system, controlled entirely by computers with no drivers on board. However, the line is not the first in Japan, as Kobe's Port Liner opened in 1981, 14 years before the Yurikamome.
The Yurikamome is sometimes mistakenly called a monorail, but the trains run with rubber-tired wheels on elevated concrete track guided by the side walls.
Shiodome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shiodome (汐留) is an area in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, located adjacent to Shinbashi and Ginza, near Tokyo Bay and the Hamarikyu Gardens. Formerly a railway terminal, Shiodome has been transformed into one of Tokyo's most modern areas. It is a collection of 11 tiny town districts or cooperative zones, but generally there are three main areas:
The Shiodome Sio-Site (シオサイト?), a collection of skyscrapers containing mostly businesses, hotels, and restaurants. Its thirteen skyscrapers house the headquarters of All Nippon Airways, Bandai Visual, Dentsu, Fujitsu, Mitsui Chemicals, Nippon Express, Nippon Television and Softbank.
The western district, located west of the JR tracks and populated by European-style buildings.
The southern extension, east of the JR tracks from Hamamatsucho 1-chome. This area is for residential use, and there are three tall apartment buildings located there, along with a small park.
Shiodome Station is a stop on the Yurikamome and Toei Ōedo Line; the complex is also within walking distance of Shimbashi Station.
