The Handyside Arcade, Percy St, Newcastle upon Tyne, how it once was and how it looks today.
George Handyside funded the building of a 90 shop development in Percy St, which opened in 1906, sadly George never got to see this, as he had died 2 years earlier in 1904. The building was eventually demolished in 1987 and the site became Eldon Gardens, part of the Eldon Square Shopping Centre. George would have had no idea that his building would become a part of Geordie folk-lore. During it's time it housed WWW 1 soldiers, a Dental Hospital and in 1962 the Club A'gogo opened it's doors. Shortly after this 5 local lads got together and formed a group called The Animals, they made the Club A'gogo their home. And as they say, the rest is history.

Tyne & Wear Metro Ride From Jesmond to Whitley Bay, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England - 17/02/15
The Tyne and Wear Metro (Newcastle Metro), referred to locally as simply the Metro, is a rapid transit light rail system in North East England, serving Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Sunderland in the Tyne and Wear region. The Metro is also described as Britain's first modern light rail system. It can be considered a hybrid system, displaying elements of light rail, heavy underground metro, and longer-distance, higher speed suburban and interurban railway systems.
This film features front facing 'driver's eye views' of a Metro ride on the Metro's 'yellow line' from Jesmond to Whitley Bay, calling at: West Jesmond, Ilford Road, South Gosforth, Longbenton, Four Lane Ends, Benton, Palmersville, Northumberland Park, Shiremoor, Monkseaton and Whitley Bay.
