Just a Walk: Up, Down and Around Heber Downs Conservation Area
I had the day to myself yesterday so decided to go get some exercise by hiking up the hill at Heber Downs Conservation Area in Whitby, Ontario. Things didn't go as planned but I got a good work-out and had a great time anyway.

Drone Flight Over Heber Down Conservation Area's Canada 150 Project

Get a bird's-eye view of the Central Lake Ontario Conservation's Canada 150 Project at Heber Down Conservation Area.
The first step in cutting the area in the shape of a 3-acre maple leaf was completed in early June. The project was first designed in our GIS Department then marked in the field using GPS coordinates to guide the areas staff in cutting the grass. The project is scheduled to be completed in late fall and will include a 750 metre accessible trail loop, picnic areas with a shelter, washroom facilities and a new viewing platform for our raptor watch program. The Canada 150 Project is currently under construction across from the Whitby leash-free dog park and the end of Cochrane Street, south of Winchester Road West.
This will be a wonderful addition to the north-east corner of Heber Down Conservation Area for visitors looking to relax, enjoy some family time and reconnect with the natural environment.
Thank you to the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program for funding the project and Jonnell Santa Rosa from the Whitby Aero Modellers RC Club for the drone flight.

If you enjoy running streams, hiking and viewing wildlife, you will certainly enjoy Heber Down Conservation Area in Whitby, ON. During my visit, I spent most of my time on the Devils Den Trail. The trail, as you will see in the video, is sandy in spots because it crosses an ancient beach on what was Lake Iroquois, a prehistoric version of Lake Ontario at the end of the last ice age. It forms an escarpment, which the trail ascends along the south side, descending it a short distance north.
Along this trail, a pond can also be found, where ducks and geese can often be found. Lynde Creek is just a few steps away from there, making for some relaxing natural scenery. Two bridges can be found along this section of the trail.
