Vlog 120 - Mallika City - Kanchanaburi
Today we take a trip west to Kanchanaburi to look at a retro-city reflecting the past Siamese lifestyle in the Chao Phraya River Basin. It was a lot of fun and we got to dress up in 19th century traditional clothing.

I’m a retired Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai ladyboy girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living our life in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her was taking its toll. We hope we will give you a unique perspective on Thailand life and lifestyle as we go about our daily life and sometimes explore the Land of Smiles. Ayutthaya - Video Guide of Thailand's Ancient Capital City
Ayutthaya is one of the most popular places to visit near Bangkok. Read my full guide to Ayutthaya here:
Visiting Ayutthaya, Thailand, is one of the best day trips to take from Bangkok. It's Thailand's ancient capital city, second after Sukhothai. The city has a very long history with many ups and downs. It was overthrown by the Burmese in the mid 1700's and many of the gems and treasures from the temples were moved the Yangon at the Shwedagon Pagoda (another very impressive site if you visit Burma). I have visited Ayutthaya a number of times while living in Thailand, but a few weeks ago I joined a small travel blogger group and we toured a few of the most important temples, and I also snuck away for some food and refreshment! The Ayutthaya historical park is the most significant section of the city, an area where there's a concentration of temples and historical sites to visit. The city in now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The first temple we stopped at was Wat Yai Chai Mongkon (วัดใหญ่่ชัยมงคล), a must visit temple in Ayutthaya. The temple is recognized by its huge chedi that leans a little to the side, sort of like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. At the site, you can then climb a flight of stairs to the middle level section that offers a nice view of the surroundings. Surrounding the temple are many statues of Buddha, most of them wrapped in orange cloth and in many symmetrical patterns. Just like Wat Pho in Bangkok, there's also a reclining Buddha, though this one made of stone and wrapped in yellow cloth instead of gold. I had visited the temple before, but had never stopped to see the palace of King U-Thong and his many roosters. After Wat Yai Chai Mongkon (วัดใหญ่่ชัยมงคล) in Ayutthaya we proceeded to Wat Phanan Choeng (วัดพนัญเชิงวรวิหาร), a temple that's famous for housing a 19 meter high golden seated Buddha. The temple is a cross between traditional Thai and Chinese beliefs so there are lots of cross similarities and the temple is very Chinese Confucian in appearance. There are many section of Wat Phanan Choeng (วัดพนัญเชิงวรวิหาร), and you can spend some time walking around each section of the temple. It's nearly always busy and bustling with people, especially on the weekends. Finally, the famous Wat Mahathat (วัดมหาธาตุ) is one of the most visited and well known temple complexes in the Ayutthaya historical park. It's the temple where the famous head of Buddha wrapped within the banyan tree is - that's always a favorite place for everyone to take pictures! The rest of the temple is not in that great of condition, but it's mostly in ruins. The temple is still nice to walk around for a few minutes.
Ayutthaya is hot, and when you are walking around the temples, you're going to sweat for sure! So be prepared for the sun and always remember to drink plenty of water. I also like to stock up on hydration by having a fresh coconut to drink the water. Finally, whenever you visit any city in Thailand it's important to eat and to bring back some of the local speciality snacks. In Ayutthaya there's nothing more famous than a sweet called roti sai mai (โรตีสายไหม), and if you don't eat this, many Thais will say you didn't even go to Ayutthaya. It's basically a thin crepe pancake that's combined with cotton candy like sugar, wrapped into a little taco and consumed. It is very sweet and full of sugar, but it is the taste of Ayutthaya and should be sampled! Have a great trip visiting the ancient capital city of Thailand!

A day in Chonburi
I'm walking from the Bangsaen Beach down the Thanon Bangsaenlang road. Having just had a gorgeous seafood lunch on the beach, I decided to walk around the city a little bit with my cam on.
This is a very nice resort city. Even on this street with lots of cars and bikes going by, I felt myself at home. Thailand is, and will always be the country I have a very special place in my heart for.
More about Chonburi you can find on Wikipedia here:

Discover Thainess in Amazing Kanchanaburi
Mallika City Kanchanaburi - Old town Thailand theme park
Mallika is the retro-city reflecting the past Siamese lifestyle in the Chao Phraya River Basin. During the reign of King Chulalongkorn, Rama V (1873-1910 A.D.), the people’s way of life in 1905 A.D. was plentifully changed. The most pronounced was the abolition of slavery. When freed, these former Siamese slaves had to live and earn a living by themselves without control and supports from their noblemen and masters anymore. They had to live a life of self-sufficiency, self-reliant, and in harmony with all other Siamese people. These changing patterns of lifestyle are the cornerstone of today’s Thai people.

Bangkok, Thailand. City, Marmortempel, Königspalast mit Tempel 1/2
Lest unseren ausführlichen Bericht über Bangkok:
Der 84. Tag, (Teil 1/2).
Ancient Thailand City Ayutthaya
In the video we travelled to beautiful Ayutthaya which is the old capital city of Thailand in the past, before it was destroyed during a war 700 plus years ago. Only one and a half hours away from Bangkok, we travelled by train and had an amazing time there. We took a boat ride, saw so many amazing old temples, saw Elephants and took a trip to the famous floating market.

Bangkok - Wat Trai Mit
The Wat Trai mit temple in the Chinatown area of Bangkok is a Royal temple famous for the enormous gold Buddha image it houses.Entrance is 40 baht.Toward one side of Chinatown, in what was at one time a generally unremarkable sanctuary of Wat Traimit, sits the world's biggest strong gold Buddha picture. Made of around 83% unadulterated gold and tipping the scales at five and a half tons, the 15-foot tall situated picture is worth a large number of dollars at the present gold costs.

Kanchanaburi Town, Kanchanaburi Province, Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Don Rak, Thailand ( 44 )
Kanchanaburi - is the largest of the central provinces ( changwat ) of Thailand. Neighbouring provinces are ( from north clockwise ) Tak, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom and Ratchaburi. In the west it borders Kayin State, Mon State and Tanintharyi Division of Myanmar.
A province in the Central Plains, Kanchanaburi is frequented by tourists who have been attracted by its long history and ancient civilizations, a location of the Bridge over the River Khwae – ‘Kwai’ as it is known internationally and scene of the historic World War II film. Producers of the movie the Bridge Over the River Kwae are guilty of giving the river and bridge both the wrong spelling and mis-pronunciation. It is pronounced ‘Kwae’ as in the English word ‘Hair’. The province is also famous for its natural attractions such as forests, mountains, caves and waterfalls.
The province is located in the west of Thailand, and is situated 129 km from Bangkok and covers a total area of about 19,483 km² being the country’s third largest province after Nakhon Ratchasima and Chiang Mai. Topographically, it is covered with timber and evergreen forests. The district covers the source valleys of the rivers Kwae Yai and Kwae Noi ( River Kwai ) which merge at the city Kanchanaburi and form the Mae Klong River there. Several National Parks are located in the forests of the mountain area of the province - the Erawan, Sai Yok, Khao Laem, Khaoen Sri Nakarin and Chaloem Rattanakosin National Parks are located in the province. The Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in this province is also listed in the UNESCO world heritage list.
Archaeology found in Kanchanaburi dates back to the 4th century which proves of trade with surrounding countries even in that time. Very little is also historically known about the actual Khmer influence in Kanchanaburi but there is evidence of their occupation with Prasat Muang Singh – one of the country’s most well known Khmer sites.
