Evening trip to Herne Bay in Kent.
Herne Bay is a seaside town in Kent, South East England, with a population of 38,563. On the south coast of the Thames Estuary it is 7 miles (11 km) north of Canterbury and 5 miles (8 km) east of Whitstable. The town rose to prominence as a seaside resort during the early 19th century after the building of a pleasure pier and promenade by a group of London investors, and reached its heyday in the late Victorian era.

Blue Jeans - Herne Bay Pier [1976]
Here's an improved version of our old upload which features scenes of the lost Victorian pier of Herne Bay, Kent in 1976, just 2 years before the great storm of 1978 destroyed the main neck.
It's from the French film released in 1977, titled 'Blue Jeans' (also known as 'Prime Tentazioni' in Italy and 'Erste Versuchungen' in Germany).
Shot in 1976 with a limited budget and released for a short run in French and Italian cinemas, it was later released on home video in SECAM VHS format and the source of this video is no doubt from one of them. It would benefit from some basic colour correction.
Following recent new research, we have discovered that the film was shot on 35mm and printed in an aspect ratio of 1.66:1. We have corrected the aspect without horizontal letterboxing for this new upload.
Jean-Pierre Fougea - the production manager / producer is still holding manager position of Chloe Productions at Dixit in Paris who made the film. In 2015, he licensed the film to CMV Laservision for release on DVD in Germany. It was released in February 2015.
Note that the pier was closed (considered dangerous) at this time, yet a film crew and children were on it. How does that go un-noticed? Pay attention to the warning sign on the pier gate - of historical interest.
The film makers stayed in my family's former business - the Dolphin Hotel and used my aunt, Jane Weldon and her friend Sarah Vaughan as the featured English girls. My late uncle Timothy Weldon was an executive producer for the film but was not credited. Sadly, Tim lost his life in the 1980s and the Dolphin Hotel went on to become a popular local drug den. In recent times the hotel was ruined when developers converted the listed building into 'Dolphin Court', luxury apartments for the rich...
Gilles Budin who plays the main lead 'Julien', was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2007. Following a brief career in the creative department for film and television, he became an expert tattoo artist and setup his own parlour which was renowned for their work and artists. RIP Gilles.
The sound has been muted for the following reasons:
1. The acting and dialogue is embarrassing. I think I'm doing my aunt a favour.
2. This upload is not about the film, it is to showcase Herne Bay's Victorian pier as it was in 1976. The sound would only distract you from the intention and context. Besides, the film is available to watch in full length from circulating VHS bootlegs or you can import the DVD release from Germany.

Ghost pier at Herne Bay
On 11th January 1978 a storm cut off the end of Herne Bay Pier, the end of the pier has been isolated ever since. Various sightings of a ghost has been seen with three faces.... Look closely at the video and comment if you see any ghosts!
The ghost pier is 1 kilometre from land. The beginning of Herne Bay Pier is still standing and in use.

Reculver towers - The most dominant features of this site are the 12th-century towers of the former monastic church, which stand out on the skyline for miles around. Coastal erosion has brought the edge of the beach to the towers, which act as a navigation marker for shipping. Much of the site has now been lost to the sea.
