I visited Himeji with some friends. The main thing there to see is Himeji castle which was so beautiful(more intresting on the outside tho). I love to travel around Japan so see so many different and outstanding things. Now I currently living in Osaka to study japanese, so I often takes day trips near the town.

Himeji is a city in the Kansai region of Japan. It’s known for the sprawling, centuries-old, white Himeji Castle, one of the few original castles from Japan’s feudal period.
The top floor of the 6-story main keep offers views over the extensive castle grounds. The Nishi-no-Maru section of the complex contains royal residential quarters. Next, to the castle, Kōko-en is a traditional Edo-style garden.

Kokoen Garden, Himeji 4K - 好古園●姫路 - Japan As It Truly Is
Kokoen Garden is one of Japan's most beautiful. Many going to Himeji Castle never see it - a complete tragedy. Come see why.
Actually, Kokoen is made up of nine distinct gardens, and you could spend hours enjoying the beautiful design and flowers - with Himeji Castle as a backdrop. Koko-en was constructed in 1992, over an excavated site of samurai homes. The whole area of Kokoen covers about 3.5 hectares and the gardens are made using the same techniques used during the Edo Period (1600-1868).
The main part of the garden is the Nishi-Oyashiki or Lord's West Residence and is arguably the most beautiful of the nine. You can see all of them here though and the names are literal translations of the Japanese titles.

Koko-en is about a 5 minute walk west of Himeji Castle. Open 9 AM - 5 PM (last entry 4:30). Get the combination ticket with Himeji Castle for ¥1040 and visiting one of the places is virtually free. To get the combo ticket you need to ask at the ticket counter, not the vending machines selling tickets.

Day trip from Kyoto to Himeji! This side trip can be easily done from Shin-Osaka as well, still by Shinkansen bullet train!
I wanted to see Himeji castle (but there is nothing inside, there is just the wood structure so not sure if it was worth the ticket's cost tbh but the view from the top of the castle was nice!)
I also went to the garden near the castle and to my surprise it was one of the most well-kept garden I've been so far from my journey in Japan! so pretty!
If you ever go to Himeji and want to visit both castle and garden, you can buy a ticket for both places at discount price!

Himeji Castle is a national treasure in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, which is registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous castles.
It is popular as a spot where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Japan.
With the castle tower as the center, buildings such as walls, gates and earthen walls and civil engineering buildings such as stone walls and moats are well preserved, and it is a historically very valuable building.

JAPAN TRAVEL: HIROSHIMA/HIMEJI! DAY 14
Very big and full day of travel. First we took the bullet train west to the very tragic and moving city of Hiroshima - site of wartime obliteration via A-Bomb. We took in the museum, left feeling spent, and headed for an okonomyaki lunch.
Then, with literally seconds to spare, we got a train to Himeji to go and visit the sensational 1600s castle there; site of many a Hollywood film.
Moving day and historically impressive day.
We ate:
Okonomyaki (Hiroshima style) at Okonomimura
Monaka stuffed with red beans and macha ice cream and Hirashaya

Himeji - The Castle & Samurai Haunted BNB - Japan
Visited Himeji Castle in December, enjoyed it from the outside. Hiking up the hill near Mizuo Shrine to get the timelapse of the day to night was worth the trip, I wish there had been some clouds to decorate the sky some. A view like that makes up for not being able to drone it.
I didn't have time to go inside the Castle, but if you want a photographer/videographer tip. There are a lot of rustic good spots around the castle and neighbourhoods just outside of it that are great and not crowded for taking photography or video in Japan to get that atmosphere without people in your way look.

- Place isn't actually haunted, but it's super unique.

Himeji Castle has an illuminations event in Winter and is popular for locals and tourists alike. It's a nice way to spend an evening in the castle grounds and enjoy a nice light show in the view of the castle.
