Deadwood South Dakota | A Walking Tour of Historic Main Street
Finding Deadwood’s Haunts & History on Historic Main Street.
The successful HBO series and movie, Deadwood, is about the true mining town of Deadwood, South Dakota in the Black Hills. During its post-Civil War years, Deadwood was not part of any U.S. state or territory. This lawless town attracted people looking to get rich after a huge gold strike, as well as those who wanted to capitalize on the lack of organized law in the town. Many of the characters in the show were real people. And some were famous western figures like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. In this video we go on a search on the historical main street of Deadwood for these legendary figures of Deadwood, South Dakota. And find some local history and haunts on the way. #DeadwoodMovie #HBODeadwood #DeadwoodTheMovie

Deadwood South Dakota | Cheap RV Living
Old Town Deadwood South Dakota was as beautiful as it was historic... after the snow passed on Memorial Day weekend. We camped at Fish N Fry Campground in the Black Hills of South Dakota, about 10 minutes from Old Town Deadwood and Mount Moriah Cemetery. We visited the Golden Nugget Salon, Mustang Sally's and a bunch of other notable Deadwood tourist attractions. All were awesome. We visited the salon where Wild Bill Hickok was murdered and grave sites of both he and Calamity Jane. It was the most peaceful and beautiful cemetery to walk around. Mount Moriah cemetery also has a birds eye view of Deadwood.
Fish N Fry Campground was awesome, and honors the Passport America (see notes on the Passport America app or website) and Good Sam discount.

Historic Deadwood in South Dakota
Video created by To Travel is to Live: samhtravels.com #samhtravels
This YouTube video shows photos I have taken of Historic Deadwood South Dakota within the United States. Deadwood was a gold rush town in the 1870s and became a historic landmark in 1961. It has a Wild West feel, featuring buildings from this era. Visit Deadwood to walk in the foot steps of Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Seth Bullock.

Deadwood South Dakota
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick Regan, Maggie, and Kate went back in time to the streets of Deadwood. Deadwood, South Dakota, a gambling and saloon town built in the Gold Rush of the 1800's, still thrives in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and it's the perfect vacation in scenic South Dakota for Cheap Family Travel. Located near Lead, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, and Rapid City, South Dakota, Deadwood is a fun place to visit for both its past and its present, and many of the activities in town are either free or really cheap. We took the Boot Hill Tour bus that took us to the main drag of Deadwood, where Wild Bill Hickok and Jack McCall became infamous, the Adams House, and the Boot Hill Cemetery, where Wild Bill Hickock, Calamity Jane, Potato Creek Johnny, and Preacher Smith are buried. Deadwood boosts several casino/hotels including the Midnight Star, owned by actor Kevin Costner, and the Celebrity Hotel full of Hollywood memorabilia, like Herbi the Love Bug and James Bond's car. Between the Deadwood hotels, the casinos, the history, and the Gunslingers live entertainment, Deadwood is among the best vacation destinations there is in South Dakota travel.
1880 Town Murdo South Dakota
Hey you guys! Thanks for joining me on another adventure. I got to fulfill a childhood dream of mine this week... I got to play Cowboys & Indians at 1800 Town in Murdo, South Dakota! After exploring this cool live museum with original old structures brought in from all over the state, we learned we could dress up in period garb. I told Alvin & Amy that they were going to dress up too, even though they were really hesitant to do so. I had the great idea to act out robbing a bank, and I found a family willing to join in our fun. I also acted out a gun duel with a German man. One of the employees showed us a jail cell that was all out of doors, except for a tin roof. Glad I didn't get thrown in there after the robbing the bank, haha! There were some bulls & cows nearby that I went over to get a closer look at. One of the bulls was none too happy that I was trying to coax the calf closer to the fence! It was definitely crazy that only a wired fence separated us! The carriage ride throughout the town was cool too; I even got to drive us for a time. Amy took a turn too. If you are ever in South Dakota, or near South Dakota, or have a whim to dress up as a cowboy or Indian and feel like you're back in the day, you MUST come to 1880 Town! It was absolutely amazing!

Lead to Deadwood, South Dakota. Black Hills Destinations. Wild West.
Spending time in the towns of Lead and Deadwood is like taking a step back in time. As you walk the streets you can imagine the wild west and the characters that once roamed the Black Hills.
Lead, home of the Homestake Mining Company, was a little tamer than the gambling and brothel run town of Deadwood. Pheobe Hearst, mother of the media tycoon William Randolph Hearst, was one of the first in the nation to build a town that took care of her workers. Pheobe was responsible for building a public library, kindergarten, and an opera house. There was a community center and holiday celebrations to bring the town together. Today the longest working gold mine in the northern hemisphere is home to Stanford Labs where they are experimenting with dark matter a mile under the surface.
Deadwood was the town where you went for a drink, a woman, or a game of cards. Known for it's lawlessness and colorful characters Deadwood has a special charm of it's own. From the brick streets and matching buildings to wild west characters like Wild Bill Hickock roaming the streets this town screams wild west charm. A visit to the Black Hills would not be complete with out taking this step back in time.
