Eddie Cochran historic sites #1 - Gaumont Theatre Coventry, England
Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent performed in the Gaumont Theatre in Coventry on Thursday 28th January 1960. This was the second date of their UK tour', the Larry Parnes production 'A Fast-Moving Beat Show'. I visited the Gaumont on April 21st 2013 and shot the video as shown here. The Gaumont Theatre is now the 'Ellen Terry Arts and Media building' and part of the Coventry University. I tried to get into the building to have a look at the stage, which is still supposed to be there, but was whisked away as students were working on their exams.
Spencer Leigh writes about the show in Coventry his book 'Things Do Go Wrong, Eddie, Gene and the UK Tour': After a day off for the performers on Wednesday, the tour continued on Thursday with a show at the Gaumont, Coventry and this time Eddie was closing the first half. The local paper said, About 450 people, mostly young girls attended the first half and screamed fairly steadily throughout the show, not, one felt from hysteria, but rather because it was the done thing. The second house drew 2,500 and the reviewer acknowledged that Gene excelled with 'Summertime'. Eddie Cochran met a local reporter, Ron Scobling, backstage and was genuinely interested in others and what they did. Ron's friend, Alan, followed Manchester United and Eddie wanted to know more about soccer.'
John Collis in his book 'Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran, Rock 'n' Roll Revolutionairies: 'A member of the paying audience, Alan Sinnett, managed to get backstage. The lasting memory for me was how genuinely Eddie was. I didn't expect Eddie to be interested in us, but he asked questions of us as well as the other way round.'

Narrowboat Vlog -Tour 10 - Plum to Plough - Trent & Mersey/Coventry Canal
After a great night at the Plum Pudding we set off on our narrowboat in beautiful weather, making our way to Huddlesford on the Coventry Canal. Another great night was to follow. We also covered a few points about the history of canals that most boaters are oblivious to.
See us in the Canal & River Trust Boaters' Update along with lots of boating information.... Tackling 'The Shroppie Locks'.....
Join us on the next part of our journey. Each Vlog covers a specific part of a canal in the detail it deserved ( why rush by! ) - we just said it naturally as we cruised along in the hope that you would get that narrowboat feeling.

British Warbirds '39 '45
During summer holiday 2004 I went on a motorcycle trip along spots of British aerial warfare heritage of 1939 - 1945 - the Panton museum at East Kirkby with its magnificent Lanc, Coningsby, Derwent Reservoir and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford with its overwhelming number of planes, not at least the pretty De Havilland Dragon Rapide - also a war veteran - operating on round trips in the skies above Duxford. Respect to all who flew this magnificent machines and lost ther lives in conquest of the axis forces to ensure us of our nowaday freedom.

69_Salterforth canal side secret
We leave Reedley Marina and head Northwards towards Barrowford Locks, the landscape is a mix of open countryside and nearby towns, in the distance is Pendle Hill. The canal winds as it follows the hillside and we soon find ourselves at the bottom of Barrowford Locks. As we rise through the seven Barrowford Locks, we reach the summit of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and we pass the Barrowford Reservoir built in the 19th century where the summit levels surplus water is stored. We moor here for a couple of days before heading towards Foulridge Tunnel. The 1640 yards long tunnel with no towpath drips constantly and we were pleased to reach daylight on the other side. We stopped to use the boaters facilities here before making our way to Salterforth where we moored up and visited the Anchor Pub, watch out for the spectacular site in the cellar.
