Bar crawl Danang plus arrival at Hoi An resort - Danang, Hoi An, Vietnam
I embarked on my mini bar crawl north of the dragon bridge in down town Danang. I made the fatal flaw of arriving too early. Many of the bars were just opening and customers were thin on the ground. I saw no evidence of bar girls. Maybe they started work later or may be central Vietnam is more conservative than the decadent south? I return to Bamboo 2 bar which is the most lively at that early hour. Next morning I take a Grab bike to my next booking near Hoi An. Only set me back 110,000 dong (A$7) for a 30K journey. I checked out the resort's private beach while I waited for my room to become available. I also grabbed a free push bike and explored the surrounding area.

Why You Should Visit DA NANG, Not HOI AN | Vietnam's Hidden Gem
Hoi An Vietnam is a very busy, overcrowded tourist trap. But just 30km away is Vietnam’s best hidden gem. A city that is far less visited and far more fun. This is why you should visit DA NANG not Hoi An!
In this travel guide, I will cover all of the best things to do in Da Nang: the best day trips, the Son Tra Peninsula, the ruins of My Son Sanctuary, Marble Mountain, My An district, the Dragon Bridge and My Khe beach and the best beach in Da Nang.

EVERYTHING FEATURED IN THIS GUIDE:
0:42 - Hoi An in the morning
This is the best time to see Hoi An without crowds. Travel and Leisure magazine voted Hoi An as the best city in the world for 2019 - and this is when you can see why. The only thing you won’t see its famous magic lantern displays.
1:25 - Overtourism in Hoi An
Whilst it was once a charming Old Town, Hoi An’s historic streets are now being destroyed by the crowds of mass tourism. In places it now resembles a theme park.
3:23 - Best Things to Do in Da Nang Vietnam: Travel Guide
All the information on Da Nang starts here!
4:30 - My Khe Beach, Da Nang
5km of beautiful beach on the seafront of the city, right in front of My An. For me, this is a better tourist beach than An Bang beach in Hoi An - and the best beach in Da Nang.
4:57 - Son Tra Da Nang Vietnam (aka Monkey Mountain)
The best Da Nang motorcycle route and my favourite thing to do in the city. Home to the biggest buddha statue in Vietnam, an 800 year old Banyan, amazing viewpoints and the best hidden beaches.
7:53 - Marble Mountain Da Nang Vietnam
A cluster of five marble and limestone hills with temples and viewpoints. Busy, but good fun.
8:33 - My Son Da Nang Vietnam
Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary is a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples in Vietnam. Like a smaller version of Cambodia’s Angkor Was temples.
8:42 - My An Da Nang
Da Nang’s coolest neighbourhood, popular with digital nomads and expats for great coffee shops, restaurants and rooftop bars.
9:55 - Dragon Bridge Da Nang Vietnam
A bridge over the River Hàn in the shape of a dragon. It blows fire from it’s head on weekends (seriously)!

Tips for vietnam (Danang & Hoi An)
1. for currency exchange, use $100 to exchange because they have a bigger value.
2. any watts work with Vietnam; if you live in the US, or Korea, both plugs will work.
3. when taking a taxi, do not take random ones that look like Uber. Take taxis with numbers on it
4. if you are staying in a hotel or a resort, and you want to grab a taxi, please tell the front desk so they can arrange the ride for you. otherwise, weird taxi drivers will take advantage of you.
5. When you arrive at vietnam (DAD airport), buy a sim card. You will get unlimited data for only $7! (1 week)
6. people here are quite nice. when buying products are the market, negotiate with them!
7. Traffic system is bad in Vietnam. Please watch out for motorcycles and cars! they do not have traffic lights so you will hear lots of beeping.
8. because there are many motorcyclists, it’s easy to get your bags snatched so always watch out!
9. Do not wear sneakers. although sneakers can be comfortable, it is hot in vietnam and birkenstocks will be the best shoes to wear around.
10. WATER IS NOT FREE. At the restaurant, if you ask for water, they will charge you!!
11. majority places will only take CASH.

From Da Nang to Hoi An by Car - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
The fastest and most comfortable connection from Da Nang to Hoi An is by taxi. The ride for the about 30 km costs approx. € 20.
Da Nang is the third largest city in Vietnam and gained importance through its natural harbor. In former times, Da Nang belonged to the ancient kingdom of Champa. On the orders of Napoleon III, French troops landed here.
In the Vietnam war 1965, the first U.S. fighting forces went ashore at the China Beach. Later Da Nang was the northernmost airbase of the Americans and therefore of enormous strategic importance. During the war, the China Beach also served as a recreational beach for the fighters.
From 1967 - 1972, the German hospital ship Helgoland anchored in Da Nang, providing humanitarian aid to civilian victims on behalf of the German Red Cross and Maltese emergency service.
After a wonderful journey across the Ocean Clouds Pass by train, we are now at the main station in Da Nang and take a taxi to Hoi An.
The driver purposefully drives through the street canyons to the Nguyen Van Linh, which leads directly to the Dragon Bridge (Cau Rong), that crosses the Song Han Bay.
The Song Han is a tributary of the Bay of Danang and leads straight from the docks through the city. The Song Han runs south to the Song Thu Bon, which in turn leads through Hoi An to the sea.
From the Dragon Bridge, the road continues directly to China Beach. The fantastic sandy beach stretches as far as Hoi An. We drive past elegant beach sections, where we would have liked to jump into the water.

Vietnam Sleeper Train from Da Nang to Nha Trang
I took the sleeper train from Da Nang to Nha Trang and want to share the experience to help out fellow travelers.
The 524 kilometre journey takes around 10 hours... or sometimes 11... just depending on your luck.
We decided to take the train over a plane for the experience. Although flying would have been much faster we thought this would be a great way to take in some of Vietnam's countryside.
And, we figured it would be best to do that during the day.
Taking the train at night is a solid option though. You won't have to write-off an entire day from your travel plans and it'll be one less night of paying for accommodation.
There are 4 types of seats on this train:
1. Hard seat
2. Soft seat
3. Hard berth (6 berths) with the top bunks being the cheapest
4. Soft berth (4 berths) all bunks are priced the same
Take the 4 berths.
Pillows and blankets are provided in the sleepers (which looked relatively clean).
On our train, people came by offering light snacks throughout the trip and a meal was served for lunch - everything was reasonably priced.

I hope you find this video helpful when planning your time in Vietnam and deciding how to get around.
I booked online at which was simple and straightforward. Make sure to save your e-tickets to your phone in case you can't access your email at the station.

OK travel bugs, this was INSANE. I honestly thought we were going by motorbike and was ready for the occasion. Turns out they had the jeep available that day and we drove it along the Vietnam coastline. BREATHTAKING! This was definitely one of those “wow, I can’t believe I did that” travel moments.
While you can take a shuttle bus or the train, both those options don’t allow you to see Vietnam’s amazing coastline views. Consider taking a private motorbike, jeep, or car option to get the most out of your time!
Here’s some destinations we visited during the drive from Hue to Hoi An:
-Fishing village
-Hai Van Pass is a long mountainous stretch of road in Central Vietnam that juts into the sea. An incredibly beautiful path to ride on on motorbike or…jeep!
-My Khe Beach, R & R Beach is a beach in Danang, a white sandy 20-mile stretch!
-Marble Mountain is a cluster of limestone hills, caves, tunnels, and temples. A seriously fascinating site to visit in Vietnam!
-Danang is the largest city in Vietnam in terms of population - wow!
-Hoi An Ancient City
I flew into Hue instead of Danang because it was cheaper, so I had to travel down South to get to Hoi An :) Hope that helps with navigation!
If you've made it this far...give the video a big thumbs up! You're epicly awesome.
