Our favourite MTB trail on the Garden Route: Harkerville
Harkerville Mountain Bike Route - 22.8km 500m elevation.
Garden Route (Tsitsikamma, Knysna, Wilderness) National Park, SANparks
Continuing our Knysna series! A relatively short drive from our tent at Diepwalle, we could indulge ourselves and our bikes in some more indigenous forest. But the goal of the day was the OCEAN! What a beauty!
Neither the daunting route profile nor the baboons were able to dissuade us to turn around. This trail definitely drained our Duracells, so some fitness is advised to make it a smoother ride.
If you're not into mountain biking, run it. If you can't do trail running, walk it. Crawl it, if you have too. This trail is a definite must!
Oh, and don't forget to bring your picknick blankie ;)
The other trails in our Knysna series:

What to do in the Garden Route National Park?
Homtini Mountain Bike Route - 18km 560m elevation.
Garden Route (Tsitsikamma, Knysna, Wilderness) National Park
This is the first movie of our Knysna series! We camped at the Diepwalle forest campsite close to Knysna. This was our base camp from which we explored various mountain bike routes!
Our experience of the ride was a bit mixed. It was beautiful, but Nikie struggled some. Only afterwards we learned that Nikies rear brake was clamping! Haha, so we can't blame that on the route.
What can you expect? A combination of dense forest and stunning panoramas. And at the time of riding, the aftereffect of the Knysna fires from 2017 was still very visible, which was quite impressive.

George To Knysna By 7 Passes - A Garden Route Road Trip Via The Back Roads
The N2 National Road between #George and #Knysna in the South Africa Garden Route is a pretty scenic one. But if you want really spectacular scenery with mountain passes, historic bridges, dairy farms, mountains, and scenery that wouldn't be out of place in parts of Europe, this is for you. It's around 20 Km longer than the N2 National Road, and has several gravel stretches, but it's totally doable with an ordinary sedan car, a #4x4 isn't a necessity. There are some really good restaurants and tea rooms along the way and did I mention the scenery?

We're Chris and Birgit from Kangela Travels; currently living in the beautiful Garden Route of South Africa (but prone to hit the road to somewhere else at any time). Our passion is to travel, and we’ve been fortunate enough to have done our share of exploring the world, camera in hand. We're travel fanatics, keen anglers, photographers and occasional travel bloggers, with a particular weakness for road trips, the great open spaces of Africa, tropical Islands and Europe’s culture and history. But actually, we're fans of anywhere that we haven’t yet been, wherever that might be.
