Today I go for a visit on the Hoover Dam Tour. I chose the Hoover Dam Tour over the Power Plant Tour because I wanted to go on a longer tour and see more of the Dam. Even though the Dam Tour was more expensive ($30 vs $15 for the Power Plant Tour), you do have your own tour guide that takes you through the Dam and is able to give you a lot of information about the dam's history. The Power Plant is mostly comprised of watching films, listening to audio and see exhibits about the dam.
With the Hoover Dam Tour you have access to:
Visitor Center Presentations and Exhibits - Theater Level
-Theater Level Displays
-Theater
Inside the Powerplant
-Penstock Viewing
-Powerplant Generators
-Inspection Galleries
Visitor Center Presentations and Exhibits - Exhibit Level
-Exhibit Gallery
Visitor Center - Observation Deck Level
-The Observation Deck
Street Level Displays and Exhibits
-Winged Figures of the Republic
-The Old Exhibit Building
-Nevada and Arizona Spillways
-The Nevada Intake Towers
-Top of the Dam
Hoover Dam is located about 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas in Boulder City, Nevada. You will have to pay to park at the dam's parking garage, and you will have to go through a security scanner and metal detector before you are able to enter the visitor center at the dam.
If you are looking for a fun activity to do off of the Las Vegas strip, then you will like coming out to the Hoover Dam to learn more about the history of Southern Nevada!

Hoover Dam & Tour Review - EVERYTHING You Need To Know | Nevada Travel Vlog
Nevada Travel Vlog – The Travels Of Z exploring The Hoover Dam, A major tourist attraction in Nevada after Las Vegas because of the Hoover Dam Tours. Las Vegas to Hoover Dam is a very popular day trip. It only takes 40 minutes from Las Vegas to Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam tours are also very popular. Hoover Dam water release is one of the primary attraction of this location, lot of people do the Hoover Dam water bottle experiment or sometimes with a basketball. There are several Hoover Dam documentary on different conspiracy about Hoover Dam’s construction or that the Hoover Dam will collapse after a major earthquake. There are two Hoover Dam tour available, I prefer the Full Hoover Dam tour instead of the Powerplant tour because it longer and gives you free access to the visitors center, which is otherwise an additional $10. If you have seen videos on American History then you’ve probably seen Hoover Dam pictures or Hoover Dam Lake – Lake Mead, the largest man made reservoir in United States. Hoover Dam Bridge is also a popular attraction. Hoover Dam is also a popular Hollywood movie set. Movies like Transformers, San Andreas, and Viva Las Vegas were shot here in Hoover Dam. Fallout new Vegas hoover dam was also a very popular topic after video game Fallout added Hoover Dam as a part of two major battle location.

Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. Hoover Dam was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Originally known as Boulder Dam from 1933, it was officially renamed Hoover Dam by a joint resolution of Congress in 1947. Hoover Dam construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. The dam was named after President Herbert Hoover.
Since about 1900, the Black Canyon and nearby Boulder Canyon had been investigated for their potential to support a dam that would control floods, provide irrigation water and produce hydroelectric power. In 1928, Congress authorized the project. The winning bid to build the dam was submitted by a consortium called Six Companies, Inc., which began construction on the dam in early 1931. Such a large concrete structure had never been built before, and some of the techniques were unproven. The torrid summer weather and lack of facilities near the site also presented difficulties. Nevertheless, Six Companies turned over the dam to the federal government on March 1, 1936, more than two years ahead of schedule.
Hoover Dam impounds Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States by volume (when it is full). The Hoover dam is located near Boulder City, Nevada, a municipality originally constructed for workers on the construction project, about 30 mi (48 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. The dam's generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California. Hoover Dam is a major tourist attraction; nearly a million people tour the dam each year. The heavily traveled U.S. Route 93 (US 93) ran along the dam's crest until October 2010, when the Hoover Dam Bypass opened.
During the years of lobbying leading up to the passage of legislation authorizing the dam in 1928, the press generally referred to the dam as Boulder Dam or as Boulder Canyon Dam, even though the proposed site had shifted to Black Canyon. The Boulder Canyon Project Act of 1928 (BCPA) never mentioned a proposed name or title for the dam. When Secretary Wilbur spoke at the ceremony starting the building of the railway between Las Vegas and the hoover dam site on September 17, 1930, he named the dam Hoover Dam, citing a tradition of naming dams after Presidents, though none had been so honored during their terms of office.

Short helicopter tour of the Hoover Dam close to Las Vegas in Nevada
My family and I took a short helicopter tour of the Hoover Dam in the state of Nevada. The 10-minute flight cost $569 USD for 4-persons and is located at the Hoover Dam Lodge and casino. Call +1 702 294 2200 for more information on the helicopter tour. The flight was pretty pricey for only 10-minutes but it was well worth it in my opinion. The ride alone was exhilarating and one of the things on my bucket list. The much longer helicopter tours from other companies run anywhere from $1200-1600 for 4-persons so I did not mind the price.

Red Rock Canyon (Per Wikipedia)
The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada is an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of its National Landscape Conservation System, and protected as a National Conservation Area. It is about 15 miles (24 km) west of Las Vegas, and is easily seen from the Las Vegas Strip. More than two million people visit the area each year.
The conservation area showcases a set of large red rock formations: a set of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 feet (910 m) high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 feet (2,485 m).
A one-way loop road, 13 miles (21 km) long, provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area. Several side roads and parking areas allow access to many of the area trails. A visitor center is at the start of the loop road. The loop road is also popular for bicycle touring; it begins with a moderate climb, then is mostly downhill or flat.
Las Vegas Info (Per Wikipedia):
Las Vegas (/lɑːs ˈveɪɡəs/,Spanish for The Meadows; Spanish: [las ˈβeɣas]), officially the City of Las Vegas and often known simply as Vegas, is the 28th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County. The city anchors the Las Vegas Valley metropolitan area and is the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert. Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife. The Las Vegas Valley as a whole serves as the leading financial, commercial, and cultural center for Nevada.
Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and officially incorporated in 1911. At the close of the 20th century, it was the most populated American city founded within that century (a similar distinction earned by Chicago in the 1800s). Population growth has accelerated since the 1960s, and between 1990 and 2000 the population nearly doubled, increasing by 85.2%. Rapid growth has continued into the 21st century, and according to a 2018 estimate, the population is 648,224 with a regional population of 2,227,053.

Hoover Dam, Nevada-Arizona border, USA
Trip to Hoover Dam (once known as the Boulder Dam) located on the Nevada-Arizona border on Aug. 15, 2011. Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River.
Hoover Dam was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on Sept. 30, 1935 by President Franklin Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. The dam was named in honor of President Herbert Hoover.
The Black Canyon and nearby Boulder Canyon had been investigated since about 1900 for their potential to support a dam that would control floods, provide irrigation water and produce hydroelectric power. In 1928, Congress authorized the project. The winning bid to build the dam was submitted by a consortium called Six Companies, Inc., which began construction on the dam in early 1931. Such a large concrete structure had never been built before, and some of the techniques were unproven. The torrid summer weather and the lack of facilities near the site also presented difficulties. Nevertheless, Six Companies turned over the dam to the federal government on March 1, 1936, more than two years before schedule.
Hoover Dam impounds Lake Mead, and is located near Boulder City, Nevada, a municipality originally constructed for workers on the construction project, about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. The dam's generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California. Hoover Dam is a major tourist attraction; nearly a million people tour the dam each year. Heavily travelled U.S. 93 ran along the dam's crest until October 2010, when the Hoover Dam Bypass opened.
Just downstream from Hoover Dam is the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge with two concrete arches that stretch 1,060 feet across the Black Canyon. Completed in late 2010 at a cost of US$240 million, the bridge links Nevada and Arizona along U.S. Highway 93.
The bridge is a big tourist attraction as it is the longest bridge of its kind in the Western Hemisphere and the second-tallest bridge in the United States after the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado.
The bridge is named after former Nevada Gov. Mike O'Callaghan and Pat Tillman, the former NFL player who was killed in Afghanistan by friendly fire.
RED ROCK CANYON NATIONAL CONSERVATION AREA-LAS VEGAS, NV-EP62
Long time friends coming to visit your full-time RVing life is a precious gift! Missing the love, connection and conversation with life long friends while on the road is THE most negative part of our nomadic life. We LOVE all the NEW people we get to meet and do things with for the weeks or months we have together at various stops. But the “friends back home” still hold many “keys to your heart. We were graced this year with not one, but FOUR one week plus visits.
It started with friends we met on the road in the Cypress Trail RV Resort. Mike and Betty traveled to the San Diego area in January 2019, and in episode #52 we take a biking tour of the Mission Bay Bike Path and Beach area.
Marcia was second up at bat in February 2019, traveling to Palm Springs, CA in episode #59. We immersed ourselves in the history and culture of the Palm Springs area for the entire week.
A few weeks later, in March 2019, Brian & Linda met us in Las Vegas NV, and we immediately hit the obligatory Hoover Dam Tour in episode #61!
Episode #62 finds us all hiking and touring the Red Rock Canyon area.
Episode #63 takes you with us on a 34 mile electric bike ride around the Henderson NV area River Mountain Bike loop.
Episode #64 (“VEGAS BABY”) FINALLY has us hitting the strip, in a Mustang convertible, and walking around like the tourists we truly are. The next day, we meet up with Maureen,.... becoming the fourth “special” friend that traveled into town for over a week.
Sue & I would like you to know how honored we feel to have had Betty, Mike, Marcia, Linda, Brian and Maureen take the time, money, and effort to come visit us. We are lucky to have friends like you…………..
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located in Nevada’s Mojave Desert. This park is a popular destination for people needing a break from the Vegas Srip, to be among Native American petroglyphs, towering red sandstone peaks and the Keystone Thrust Fault. Panoramic viewing spots are all along the 13-mile Scenic ONE WAY Drive AROUND AND THRU THE PARK.

OJiM (Our Journey In Myles) is a channel for fun, sharing and exploring the wonders of Full Time RV Life,…... together with you. Sue & I are not RV or RV Travel experts, and are learning as we go along in our RV Living. We are willing to share our RV Newbie experiences and what works for us as a couple in our Class A Motorhome we have named “Myles. We encourage you to do your own research, and to develop your own special style, whether it be in a Travel Trailer or a 5th Wheel. We will never be an expert on any subject, but will document the RV Tips & Tricks we learn from our experiences along the way for you to judge. We started our journey in miles by learning from many RV Vloggers that we still subscribe to today. We hope that you will consider subscribing to our channel to see what we did in each of the states we have visited already, to help you better plan what to do when you get there on your adventure!

Route 66 Part 13 - A Detour To The Hoover Dam And LAS VEGAS!
We're back on Route 66 to Kingman but how can we miss a little detour north to the Hoover Dam and of course, Las Vegas!!!
Catch up with the whole Route 66 Playlist:
After encountering some weird Aliens we get to Kingman, Arizona and take the US 93 north to the Hoover Dam. We have flown over the Hoover Dam before but this was our first actual visit.
Although it does look busy when you arrive, the line of traffic wasn’t that bad. The parking by the visitor centre on the Nevada side was $10 however the parking on the Arizona side overlooking the dam was free.
After the Hoover Dam we headed in to Las Vegas. Although Vegas is not on Route 66 you can’t really miss it especially if you’ve never been. We spent a few days in Las Vegas before rejoining Route 66 for the drive into California.
Next time, it’s the last leg of Route 66 and we head to the beaches of California.
When planning the trip we have found the following Route 66 guides and maps very useful:
