Paraty, Brazil
So, the first thing I said was ‘OMG’ when I stepped into Paraty. This little town located halfway between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo is spectacular, charming and more fun than you would expect it to be.

Horseback riding Bra, Paraty
Home Movie of Zoom Vacations trip to Paraty, Brasil
After our trip to Rio for Carnaval, our group relaxed for two nights in the colonial town of Paraty, Brasil. We went island hopping, explored the town, went horseback riding, and attended a dinner party held by a famouse Brazilian chef. The video footage is taken with a little camera, so it's not as clear as the still shots.
This week in.....a slice of Brazilian paradise: Paraty
Positioned mid-way between the cities São Paulo & iconic Rio, Paraty is a perfectly sized pot of old Portuguese colonial splendour. Easy access by comfy bus from Rio (4hrs). Once there, you’ll take a year to cover everything there is to do. The truly excellent Paraty Tours has many options for fantastic side trips including rainforest jeep tours with a chance to slide down a stone waterfall, visit a cachaca distillery & even horse ride. Brazil - Part 2 - Buzios - Paraty - S01 E02
Episode 02 of Season 01. In Part 1 of Brazil ( ) we showed you around Rio De Janeiro. In this Part 2 we take you on two side trips within touch of Rio De Janeiro, Buzios and Paraty.
If you watched Part 1 of Brazil, you will know that we ended our trip with a hike through Tijuca National Forest. It was awesome and all but it did cause us to miss the last available bus from Rio De Janeiro. This resulted in having to get a 4-hour Uber ride to Buzios, not ideal but at least we got there.
Buzios is a small town approximately 200km east of Rio De Janeiro. The town is popular among locals, offers a vast amount of activities and a buzzing nightlife. A must-visit!
From Buzios we headed west, past Rio De Janeiro and ended up in Paraty. A small village-like town. We stroll through the Paraty Old Town and soak up its charm with its quiet cobbled streets and small colour houses. The Old Town is kept very traditional and offers a vast amount of local cuisine and small shops. If you get tired of walking you can even hire a horse and carriage to take you through the town's cobbled roads the old-school way :) Paraty has a small harbour with boat tours on offer. Some of the tours take you to quiet nearby islands and have swim breaks in some of Brazil's clearest waters! Watch our video to see just how clear.
We hope that you enjoy the video and have an unforgettable time in Buzios and Paraty if you decide to visit these two awesome towns.

Horse-drawn carriage in Paraty
The streets of the old part of Paraty are designed to be flooded at high tide, in order to clean the streets before the days of sewers. The horse is obviously used to the idea of pulling a cart through a flooded street.
Walking the Colonial Streets of Paraty, Brazil
After three days in Ilha Grande we head further south in Rio state to Paraty, a well preserved colonial town on the Atlantic Ocean - this town rose to prominence during the gold trade, as gold from Mina's Gerais state, specifically from Ouro Preto, come through Paraty and onward to Portugal. This was known as the Old Route, the original transport route - the new route was through Rio de Janeiro city.
Anyway, this video is us just walking through the town and enjoying the calm vibe and beautiful, historic architecture. Enjoy!

Amazing Hiking and Camping on Ilha Grande in Brazil (Big Island)
Ilha Grande in the state of Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful pristine destinations in Brazil. It is easily accessible by a quick one-hour ferry ride from Angra dos Reis. There are no vehicles on the island so be prepared to hike or boat your way around. Whatever your means, it is well worth the trip. The natural beauty is breathtaking. There are camping spots along the way as well as several tiny villages, many with a restaurant or two. Be prepared to see and hear lots of wildlife from several species of monkeys and birds to armadillos and lots of sea life under the water.
