Beautiful Spring Drive On A9 Road North To Blair Atholl Highland Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of a beautiful Spring road trip drive North on the A9 road from Perth on ancestry visit to the village of Blair Atholl, Highland Perthshire. Blair Atholl, from the Scottish Gaelic: Blàr Athall, originally Blàr Ath Fhodla, is a village built about the confluence of the Rivers Tilt and Garry in one of the few areas of flat land in the midst of the Grampian Mountains. The Gaelic place name Blair, from blàr, meaning field or plain, refers to this location. Atholl, which mean new Ireland , from the archaic Ath Fhodla is the name of the surrounding district. The A9 is a major road running from central Scotland to Scrabster Harbour, Thurso in the far north, via Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Perth and Inverness. At 273 miles, it is the longest road in Scotland and the fifth longest A road in the United Kingdom. Historically it was the main road between Edinburgh and John o' Groats, and has been called the spine of Scotland. Drive with great care and patience on this road as it regularly appears in lists of Scotland's most dangerous roads.
The House Of Bruar
The House of Bruar, on the A9 road, North of Blair Atholl, Scotland, refers to itself as the Harrods of the North. It is most certainly worth a visit, especially for the excellent food hall.

Glen Tilt circular walk, Blair Atholl
This walk is 10 miles long. You can take a short cut if you like but we took the 10 mile route. It heads up one side of Glen Tilt, a very beautiful glen with good views of the surrounding hills and returns down the other. The route is waymarked and follows clear paths and tracks. There is a shooting range on it but when open there is a diversion. Dates and times of the shoots can be seen on the internet.

Allan Ward video of the Monklands Ramblers - monklandsramblers.org.uk
Hello, these are the home pages of the Monklands Ramblers Club, one of the largest R.A. clubs in Scotland, and the first Scottish R.A. club on the Internet! We are based in the Monklands area of Central Scotland in North Lanarkshire, some 12 miles east of Glasgow. The two major towns in the area are Airdrie and Coatbridge, and it is from these towns that the majority of our 150+ members come from. There are also a significant number of members from other areas of Lanarkshire, in particular, Hamilton and Blantyre.
The club was formed in the summer of 1985 by a few local people who were interested in hill-walking. At that time the walks were fairly informally organised and people travelled to the walks in cars. Nowadays we are organised into a proper club with a full elected committee. Our members consist of people from all walks of life ranging in age from 20 - 75. We run a 53 seater coach or minibus to all of our walks (which are always covered beforehand by the leaders), we have walks programmes which cover Scotland and northern England and cater for all levels of fitness, and we occasionally go as far afield as Austria for special one-off walking holidays. Monklands Ramblers also has a very active social scene with regular dances, quiz nights and ten-pin bowling outings organised by the committee.
The club has actively and successfully campaigned for rights of way to be maintained and enhanced in the North Lanarkshire area. We have also become very much a part of the local community with frequent acknowledgement of our activities in the local press. The club is extremely successful simply because of the effort and support shown by the members. We consider ourselves a friendly bunch of people who always have a great time irrespective of the unpredictable Scottish weather! We would also be delighted to welcome along any new walkers who may be considering joining us - so come on, contact us today!

Falls of Bruar
A pleasant short woodland walk from the House of Bruar just off the A9 about 10 mls/16 km north of Pitlochry.
The natural waterfalls have been attracting visitors since about the 1720s -- when the 'new roads' made the area more generally accessible -- and the woodland surrounding the Bruar gorge is a living memorial to the poet Robert Burns, who came here in 1787 to admire the falls. At that time the steep slopes were bare, so Burns wrote The Humble Petition of Bruar Water in which he urged the 4th Duke of Atholl to plant its bleak banks with trees.
When Burns died in 1796, the duke created a 'wild garden' in his memory, planting the riverbanks and establishing paths, decorative bridges and summer houses.
Today, though there are no survivors from the 4th Duke's original plantings, mixed larch and Scots pine woodland cloak the banks of the Bruar Water. Varying in age from 35 to 100 years old, the trees provide a natural canopy for the woodland walk.
