Beautiful Scarista beach on the Isle of Harris
Scarp, Isle of Harris, Scotland
Scarp is an uninhabited island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, west of Hushinish on Harris. It was once an inhabited island but nobody has lived there permanently since 1971.
A few houses on the island are still in occasional use as private holiday homes.

Over the years I've walked up most of Britain's highest hills and mountains, not particularly high peaks but few walks can compete with the outstanding scenery taken in from the summits of Mullach Buidhe, Beinn Losgaintir and Beinn Dhubh. Outstanding views to the North Harris Hills, St Kilda, Taransay, Isle of Skye and across to North Uist.

Dawn ferry from Skye arrives in the Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
The ferry from Uig, Isle of Skye, arrives in Tarbert, Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, at just before 7.30am. The wind is absolutely still and the sea is so calm that it runs like mercury from either side of the ship's wash. The dark silhouettes of the hills are beginning to show their form. A couple of hours later, as the sun lifts the last of the shadows from land and sea, the ferry sets out for the trip back to Skye.

Hebridean Adventure - Part 3 - Harris & Lewis
Travelling around the Outer Hebrides in a converted Land Rover Defender 110. In this video we leave Berneray, getting the ferry to Harris, and drive to Rodel, Northton and Losgaintir, through Tarbert and on to Huisinis. Living and sleeping in the back of the vehicle we also visited the following places across the Uists and Harris & Lewis: Loch Boisdale, Eriskay, Howmore, Dalabrog, Benbecula, Berneray, Rodel, Northton, Tarbert, Huisinis, Losgaintir, Calanais, Carloway, Siabost, Traigh Mhor and Stornoway.

We visited the west coast of the Isle of Harris to see what is what. Now there is a rather cool bothy very near by. In fact we were in 100m of its yet I did not realise until we got home. A beautiful area for exporting and very very quiet lanes and no path or trails, we just took advantage of Scotland's open access to go where not many people have been before.
