Huron Valley Trail / South Lyon City Trail (Rail-trail) Cycling
Rail-trails Michigan
The Huron Valley Trail extends along the former Grand Trunk Railroad from the City of South Lyon, through Lyon Township and into Milford Township, then south on Old Plank Road to Pontiac Trail, and east on Pontiac Trail along the north side of Lyon Oaks County Park to the Wixom City boundary.
The trail has a mile of frontage along Lyon Oaks County Park. An extension to the west goes through the Lyon Township Park and along Grand River Avenue into Island Lake State Recreation Area, where it crosses under I-96 to connect to the trail system in Kensington Metropark. The entire trail is paved. The segment through Lyon and Milford Townships is relatively flat with very gentle grades, while the extension to Island Lake offers some challenging hills.
The Huron Valley Trail provides direct access to McHattie and Volunteer Parks in South Lyon, the James F. Atchison Memorial Park, Lyon Oaks County Park, Kensington Metropark, and Island Lake State Recreation Area.
Vehicle parking and access to the trail is available at all of these parks. The Huron Valley Trail provides connections to over 25 miles of adjoining trails. The Western Oakland County Trailway Management Council developed the Huron Valley Trail. Council members include Lyon Township, Milford Township, the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, and the City of South Lyon.

Lakelands Trail Stockbridge to Pinckney to Hamburg Michigan Full Ride
This 20 mile trail runs between Stockbridge, MI heading east to Pinckney, MI where it becomes paved and goes to Hamburg. It took me about 2 hours at a leisurely pace. The portion between Stockbridge and Pinckney had two large deep holes in the trail that were marked with sticks. The unpaved portion is shared with horses so you have to dodge the horse droppings. The gravel is also half grass half gravel in some places so road bike riders should stick to the section between Pinckney and Hamburg.

Prein&Newhof's Scott Post was the Project Manager and lead designer for Prein&Newhof on the recently-opened segment of the Fred Meijer Grand River Valley Trail between Ionia and Saranac, which will eventually connect to the larger Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee Trail. Check out this 240-mile-per-hour video tour of the trail that includes several converted railroad trestles, one of which crosses the Grand River.

Yellow and Blue Loop Segment Brighton MI
SORRY FOR THE POOR QUALITY. My GoPro broke and I had to use my old Sony digital camera, which was honestly pretty heavy and clunky to be wearing on a helmet.
Just a very small segment of the Mountain Bike single tracks out in the Island Lake Rec. in Brighton MI
90% more exciting in real life.
There were a lot of downed trees that day unfortunately, first time I've bit it in a long time, washed out on sand, couldn't stop and hit part of a busted tree branch. Picked back up and carried on, all part of MTB'ing.

Milford Michigan Relocation
- So what can I tell you about Milford? First let me tell you that there is the Village of Milford which is the area around the downtown area and then the surround Milford Township. The downtown area is one of the biggest draws to the area. Downtown Milford is a historic downtown area that is full of boutique shops, bakeries, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. It is not a huge downtown area. It is only about 3 or 4 blocks in length. Some of the homes in the area date back to the early 1800's. You will find some very beautiful Victorian homes around the downtown area. Many home buyers want to live in the downtown area so they can walk downtown.
Downtown Milford Michigan
No matter the time of year you will find the sidewalks downtown full of people. They have many events to draw other nearby residents to Milford. Milford Village is only about 2.5 square miles. It is not a large area in southwest Oakland County and is easily accessed from the I-96 freeway. M-59 is just north of the city, but most residents head to I-96 to get to metro Detroit. The village has a population of approximately 6,280 according to the 2010 census. There are an additional 15,271 people in the township. The Village of Milford boasts six parks within its boundaries. Central Park is a scenic park, located on the banks of the Huron River, is a favorite with the children and teens who enjoy the playscape, basketball courts, tennis court, volleyball court, and ice rink. Fairgrounds Park is adjacent to the Senior Center for easy access to a picnic area and shuffleboard courts. It is a great place to watch the ducks and geese too. Being not too far from the business district. Hubbell Pond Park is the site of the YMCA and Library, and a trail system that runs from Commerce Road all the way to Kensington Park on South Milford Road.
Parks in Milford Michigan
So what type of people will you find? Are you going to find gangs? Is your family going to be safe? The Milford area has all types of people. I would say that the Milford area residents range from middle class to upper middle class. You will find plumbers, doctors, factory workers, attorneys, teachers, business owners, and people from all occupations here in the community. Of course different subdivisions may be pricier. You will find some subdivisions with homes ranging from $500,000 to over a $1,000,000. Prices of homes in the Milford area range from about a $100,000 to over a million dollars. Many subdivisions will range from $250,000 to $550,000.
Good schools, low crime and homes with a little space. That is another reason so many Milford home buyers like the area. You will find larger lots, some ranging from 1 to 5 acres. The community is on the outskirts of metro Detroit but yet close enough. Just a little more semi-rural taste to it. Room between the houses, privacy, and a great downtown area.
Milford Michigan
Huron Valley School District has one elementary and one middle school located within the Village. The mission of the Milford Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of residents and they do a great job. The Milford Police react to any emergency that arises. The creation of the Lakes Area Citizens Police Academy 18 years ago affords citizens the opportunity to learn about their local police department and take a behind the scenes look at what law enforcement work is all about. Participants also gain an insider’s knowledge of the police agency, enabling them to make informed decisions on issues affecting the police and the community. The Lakes Area Citizens Police Academy is a joint venture between the Milford, Novi, Walled Lake, South Lyon, and Wolverine Lake Police Departments. The Oakland County sheriff and the Michigan State police are also in the area frequently doing routine patrols.
