The Royal Parish of Santos Juanes , also known as San Juan del Mercado Church ( Església de Sant Joan del Mercat , in Valencian ), is a church located in the city of Valencia , opposite the Lonja de la Seda , and next door of the Central Market .
The Iglesia de los Santos Juanes is called Real, since 1858, by decree of Elizabeth II who visited it on June 2 of the same year, as did the Archduke Charles in 1706, and the kings of Sicily, Francis and his wife in 1823. Later , in 1902, did the Infanta Isabel de Borbón , ex Princesse of Asturias. It is cataloged as National Historic Artistic Monument since February 21, 1947.
Of Gothic origin , Iglesia de los Santos Juanes was rebuilt in the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries because of the fires. It will be in the seventeenth and early eighteenth century when it will finally acquire its definitive appearance, with a baroque physiognomy . From its old Gothic structure there is still the nave and the great blinded oculus , known as the O de Sant Joan , which was conceived as a large rosette on the facade of the feet. Its exterior was reformed in 1700
Of the facade that gives to the market place it emphasizes the central sculpture of the Virgin of the Rosary , work of Jacopo Bertesi . On it is the clock tower, flanked by the two Santos Juanes and the weather vane arranged on the top of the facade, known as the bird of San Juan (sparrow of Sant Joan, in Valencian).
Antonio Palomino left a remarkable mark in Valencia. This building was precisely the reason for his arrival in Valencia in 1697 . The parish clergy had commissioned a new decoration after the fires suffered by the building. Charles II sent his painter, who corroborated the impression of the chaplains, saw the large space that was placed in his hands and accepted the challenge. It eliminated the fact and painted the presbytery and all the vaults of the church in the last years of century XVII . The 19 of July of 1936, during the civil war , was grass of the flames and its effects still endure.

Catalina.
S.XIII,XIV,XVI,XVII,XVIII y XX. Gótico y Barroco, principalmente. B.I.C.(1981).
