Perrotts Folly, Ladywood, Birmingham
Built by eccentric landowner John Perrott in 1758 this folly now houses temporary exhibitions from Birmingham s IKON gallery of contemporary art. Here you can see some interior shots and extracts from a site specific installation housed in the tower from 9 April - 24 May called Drawn Onward by artist Sofia Hulten.
The tower apparently inspired writer J R Tolkien.

Hew Locke | Artist Interview | Ikon Gallery
Hew Locke: Here's the Thing - 8 March — 2 June 2019
This is the most comprehensive exhibition to date of work by British artist Hew Locke. Involving a wide range of media – painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and installation, Locke explores the languages of colonial and post-colonial power, and the symbols through which different cultures assume and assert identity. Fusing historical source material with a keen interest in current affairs, often through the juxtaposition or modification of existing artefacts, Locke focuses attention especially on the UK, the monarchy and his childhood home of the then newly independent Guyana.

John Walker Interview | Ikon Gallery
Having studied in Birmingham at the Moseley School of Art, and later the Birmingham College of Art, Walker was the first artist to show at Ikon Gallery when it moved in 1972 to new premises in the Birmingham Shopping Centre above New Street Station. Here he presented large chalk drawings on blackboards made in situ. In the same year he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale.
The exhibition is supported by the John Feeney Charitable Trust, The Grimmitt Trust and the Owen Family Trust.
