This stunning video tour was captured during a taxi tour through the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia. It is a must see if visiting the Island, either on a cruise, or a long term stay.
History - While its construction began in 1894, the church building and The High Altar was blessed by Archbishop Flood in 1899.
As of 1999, the Cathedral’s status was changed to Minor Basilica. However, it is still referred to as long term status of the Cathedral.

Saint Lucia: Two Men Sentenced to Life for 2000 Cathedral Attack
A high court judge has decreed a life sentence for Kim John and Francis Philip, convicted of setting churchgoers on fire and killing a nun and priest during a New Year's Eve Mass in 2000. The crimes are considered one of the most heinous in the history of the eastern Caribbean island. The men reportedly stormed the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, doused worshippers with gasoline and set them aflame. They were accused of fatally beating Sister Theresa Egan, 73, with a piece of wood and setting on fire Rev. Charles Gaillard, 62. Many worshippers suffered physical and emotional trauma. St. Lucy the Martyr Church (Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur)
St. Lucy the Martyr Church was built by Father Juan Pascula Barreda and Father Manuel Arguelles in 1887. Its dome and ceiling was repaired and the surroundings were reinforced by Father Venusto Mata. its bell tower was damaged by an earthquake but was repaired eventually. It's one of the most beautiful churches in Ilocos. Its interior has a painted ceiling, pulpit and a carved retablo.
The Church has an image of the Dark Virgin of Santa Lucia, the patroness of those with failing eyesight.
