Bali the Island of Paradise
Geographically, Bali lies between the islands of Java and Lombok and is one of more than 17,000 islands that make up the Indonesian Archipelago. Bali is small, stretching approximately 140 km from east to west and 80 km from north to south. Running east to west and slightly off center, are a string of volcanic mountains, the tallest recently active being Gunung Agung, which reaches 3,142 in at its highest point and last erupted 1963.
Lying just 80 south of the Equator, Bali boasts a tropical climate with just two seasons a year and an average annual temperature of around 280C. The rich volcanic soil and healthy monsoon season make this island extremely fertile and a range of crops are grown here. The wide, gently sloping southern regions play host to Bali's famed terraced rice paddies, among the most spectacular in the world. In the hilly, northern coastal regions, the main produce is coffee, copra, spices, vegetables, cattle and rice.
The Balinese people have strong spiritual roots and despite the large influx of tourists in recent years, their culture is still very much alive. The main religion is Agama Hindu Dharma, which arrived in Bali with the spread of Hinduism through Sumatra and Java during the 11th century. Although originally from India, the Balinese religion is a unique blend of Hindu, Buddhist, Javanese and ancient indigenous beliefs, with customs that are very different from the traditional form of Hinduism practiced in India today. With the arrival of Islam in neighboring Java during the 15th century, a large number of courtiers, artists, musicians and craftsmen fled to Bali, creating an artistic renaissance.
Naturally creative, the Balinese have traditionally used their talents for religions purposes and Most of the beautiful work to be seen here has been inspired by stories from the Ramayana and other Hindu epics. The incredibly colorful cremation pyres and the everyday offerings to the Gods, placed inside every shop and business, are made with precision and an eye for beauty.
The majority of Bali's population of 3,000,000 live, for the most part, in tight village communities with large extended families. The largest towns are; the regional capital Denpasar, population 250,000, and Singaraja in the north. The main tourist area is Kuta, situated near the airport. During the tourist boom of the 70's, this small village became a major attraction because of its famed white sand beaches, the surf, and stunning sunsets.
Today, Kuta is a major hustling and bustling resort town, with hundreds of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops. Those in search of a little peace and quiet tend to head for the more sedate resorts of Sanur and Candi Dasa, on the east coast, or Lovina in the north. Another major resort on the southern-most peninsula of the island, Nusa Dua, caters for the more up-market crowd, and is home to almost all of the bigger 5-star hotels, as well as one of Bali's golf courses, the Bali Golf & Country Club. The central village of Ubud, in the hilly region of Gianyar, bas also recently blossomed as a tourist attraction and is now considered to be the artistic and cultural center of Bali.
CYCLIST'S PARADISE SANUR BALI
This shows most of the main strip of Sanur which is the Sindhu Beach Area.
There's information and ideas as you look at the Restaurants Hotels and all the main action.
I end up at a beach restaurant for a quiet meal.
Sanur truly is a Cyclists's Paradise whether on the road or on the 4.3km shared Beach path.
You can walk it but as we see here, it's fairly spread out and better done on a bicycle.

TROPICAL SPA Bali, Indonesia
Island Paradise - Bali Indonesia ( reportage Lada Iarovikova)
Bali, Indonesia's magical island paradise
Dubbed the ‘Island of the Gods’, Bali beguiles with its shore-smashing surf, volcanic sands, sacred temples and astoundingly green interior. This bucket-list escape leaves barely a stone unturned, taking you to Sanur, with its golden beach dotted with colourful fishing boats, Ubud, an arts and crafts town surrounded by forested hills and valleys, then up to Lovina on the barely explored northern coast, before finishing up in a luxurious private-pool villa in fashionable Seminyak.
Bali, which is surrounded by coral reefs, has some gorgeous beaches, but the Balinese highlands inspire harmony and inner tranquility like no other place on earth. Jet setters and world adventurers alike consider Ubud, the artistic cultural center of the island, an ultimate world-class destination.
Restorative tropical sounds, ancient Hindu temples, and emerald-green hills adorned with towering palms and undulating, hand-carved rice terraces whisk you far away from the frenzy of Western civilization. It’s a magical land where friendly people and a richly diverse culture capture your heart and then hold it close. Long after you depart, Bali will illuminate your soul with the knowledge of simpler, almost timeless existence filled with beauty and serenity.
Bali embodies the ultimate forgotten paradise in more ways than one, it's that remote land full of exoticism, colour and pure, untouched nature at its best and rawest.

Kayumanis Sanur Villas and Spa: Secret Gardens in Bali
Snippets from our weekend in a private pool villa at the Kayumanis Sanur Villas and Spa in Bali Indonesia. Our stay was in a luxury retreat and secret gardens along the southern coastal region of Sanur in Bali. Included are fantastic breakfasts served to the private villa's dining gazebo area (Balinese/Indonesian/Western Breakfast options), as well as complimentary high tea daily also served to the villa. Not to forget the complimentary minibar which is restocked every day. We also pulled ourselves away from the privacy of our pool for Balinese massage at the Kayumanis Spa and had an evening out and intimate dining for sunset at the Kayumanis Seaside Sanur restaurant found on the seafront of Sanur Beach. Top notch cocktails and some of the best steak in Bali.

Top 9 Best Beaches in Indonesian
Top 9 Best Beaches in Indonesian
NUSA DUA BEACH, DENPASAR, BALI
Nusa Dua Beach in Bali has long been recognized as not only one of Indonesia’s best beaches, but one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and it’s easy to see why. If you were to picture paradise, it would probably look a little something like this beach. With plenty of white sand for sunbathing, watersport options, a Balinese spa, and numerous hotels, resorts and restaurants, this Indonesia beach should top your list.
KUTA BEACH, BALI
Kuta Beach is most certainly Bali’s main beach for tourists. As such, it is full of popular resorts, located mere minutes from the island’s international airport. With Indonesia’s signature white sand and crashing waves, Kuta Beach is a surfer’s paradise but is also great for long, romantic walks along the beach.
SENGGIGI BEACH, LOMBOK
With an adorable name and stunning scenery, Senggigi in Lombok is one of Indonesia’s beaches that can’t be missed if you’re a sea-life aficionado. The waters along Senggigi beach are crystal clear, making them perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Take a walk along the pathway that winds along the beach before stopping into one of the many wonderful restaurants in Senggigi town for dinner.
PANGANDARAN BEACH, WEST JAVA
It’s hard to deny that Pangandaran Beach is one of Java Island’s most beautiful beaches, yet it is also often referred to as one of Java’s best kept secrets! Located just 92 kilometers from the city of Ciamis, this is another Indonesian beach that is perfect for surfing. If catching waves isn’t your thing, there’s also a marine park to enjoy and plenty of white sandy space for sunbathing.
SANUR BEACH, BALI
With shallow waters, the most incredible early morning views, and white sand flocked with colourful, traditional Balinese jukung boats, it’s easy to see why Sanur Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Bali. Ride a bike along the beaches paved cycling path, pop by the nearby Pura Blanjong temple for a visit (built from coral and decorated with inscriptions from the 10th century), and take in the many art galleries along the main street.
PINK BEACH, KOMODO-LOMBOK
While Indonesia beaches may be known for their snow-like white sand, Pink Beach (or sometimes called Red Beach for its mixture of white and red sand) is a natural phenomenon that absolutely must be seen on any visit to Komodo National Park. This is one of only seven beaches in the entire world with pink sand and has been nominated as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Head away from the coast in search of some Komodo dragons, or dive into the waters for some snorkeling.
AIR MANIS BEACH, WEST SUMATRA
Air Manis Beach is perfect for those who love to visit the beach but also want to take in a bit of culture or history at the same time. This beach, located in West Sumatra, is reportedly where a young poor sailor named Malin Kundang was turned to stone after being cursed by his mother. These legendary (and convincing!) rock formations can be seen along the beach. Continue your stroll along the sandy beach to reach the small island of Pisang Kecil, translated to “small banana”, which can only be reached during low tide.
GILI ISLANDS
If you’re looking to really get away from it all, the GIli Islands off the north-west coast of Lombok are where you should go! Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno are completely free of cars and motorbikes, so you’ll have to get around on foot or by cidomo (colourful, beautifully decorated horse-drawn carts). Go on a scuba diving tour to explore the many wreck sites off the islands’ coast.
SAWARNA BEACH, BAYAH, JAVA
You’ve never seen a beach like Sawarna Beach before. This coconut tree-lined Indonesia beach is located on the island of Java and is home to colourful coral reefs and plenty of tropical fish. Most striking, however, is that Sawarna Beach offers beautiful views of the Indian Ocean on one side and the vibrant rice paddy fields on the other.
