Izaak Walton The Compleat Angler Literary Discussion animation
Heres a virtual movie of Izaak Walton (9 August 1593 -- 15 December 1683)
an English writer. reading from his best known work The Compleat Angler The dialogue in this version takes place between Master and student/scholar.
The Compleat Angler was first published in 1653, but Walton continued to add to it for a quarter of a century. It is a celebration of the art and spirit of fishing in prose and verse; 6 verses were quoted from John Dennys's 1613 work Secrets of Angling. It was dedicated to John Offley, his most honoured friend. There was a second edition in 1655, a third in 1661 (identical with that of 1664), a fourth in 1668 and a fifth in 1676. In this last edition the thirteen chapters of the original have grown to twenty-one, and a second part was added by his friend and brother angler Charles Cotton, who took up Venator where Walton had left him and completed his instruction in fly fishing and the making of flies.
Walton was born at Stafford; the register of his baptism gives his father's name as Gervase. His father, who was an innkeeper as well as a landlord of a tavern, died before Izaak was three. His mother then married another innkeeper by the name of Bourne, who would later run the Swan in Stafford.
He settled in London where he began trading as an ironmonger in a small shop in the upper story of Thomas Gresham's Royal Burse or Exchange in Cornhill. In 1614 he had a shop in Fleet Street, two doors west of Chancery Lane in the parish of St Dunstan's.[1] At about this time he became friendly with Dr John Donne, then vicar of the parish church.
Walton's first wife was Rachel Floud (married December 1626), a great-great-niece of Archbishop Cranmer. She died in 1640. He married again soon after, his second wife being Anne Ken—the pastoral Kenna of The Angler's Wish—stepsister of Thomas Ken, afterwards bishop of Bath and Wells.
After the Royalist defeat at Marston Moor, Walton retired from his trade. He went to live near his birthplace in Stafford, where he had bought some land, including a farm and a parcel of land at Shallowford (now the Izaak Walton Cottage Museum); but by 1650 he was again living in Clerkenwell. The first edition of his famous book The Compleat Angler was published in 1653. His second wife died in 1662, and was buried in Worcester Cathedral, where there is a monument to her memory. One of his daughters married Dr Hawkins, a prebendary of Winchester. The last forty years of his long life seem to have been spent in ideal leisure and occupation, visiting eminent clergymen and others who enjoyed fishing,
Kind Regards

46100, Royal Scot, with The Welsh Borders Explorer - 10th June, 2018
46100, Royal Scot, and The Welsh Borders Explorer on 10th June, 2018. The video is mainly of a static Royal Scot at Crewe (pre-outward and return) and Telford (water stop), interspersed with a few brief clips of the train moving at speed (75mph?). It was a wonderfully smooth trip, in large part, I'm sure, down to the footplate crew and their support team. I have the greatest admiration for them.

350 EMU, Norton Bridge East Chord, 20.2.2017
Norton Bridge East Chord is the new layout of the former line from Stone to Norton Bridge Junction, now starting at Yarnfield Junction where the new flyover diversion starts, the old line is noe singled and bi directional, the route goes under Eccleshall Road and past the Norton Bridge Recycling Centre but does not join the WCML at the old junction at Norton Bridge as the flyover alterations did away with this, instead it runs parallel to the now realigned fast lines, past the marooned island platform of the former station on the old fast line, and on by the farmland and poly tunnels at SJ field to eventually join the WCML just before Izaak Walton's Cottage. For some of its route, the chord has wide four track gantries that give it a look of grandeur despite its lonely single track, reminding one of the former double line with two passing loops that were evident during happier times for the railway. Still a fascinating route, a delightful by product of the massive redesigning of the entire Norton Bridge track diagram.
350 EMU, Norton Bridge former junction, now East Chord 5.3.17
This used to be the junction for trains to and from Stone. As part of the Flyover improvements for the area, this is now a bidirectional chord newly singled line which is the old route for trains to and from Stafford, running from a new junction at Yarnfield, where the flyover lines diverge to the right, down underneath Eccleshall Road and past the Recycling Centre then on past pleasant farmland and down to the former junction where it uses the old fast line which runs by the sandcastled disused signalbox and windswept isolated platform of the once busy junction station, it then skirts SJ field before rejoining the WCML just before Izaak Walton's bridge, less than four miles from Stafford.
The Chord is presently used by 350 EMUs using platform one at Stafford and then heading to the Trent Valley route.
46100 Roars through Cheshire and Staffordshire; The Welsh Borders Explorer 10-06-2018
The second of Saphos Trains' 'Welsh Borders Explorer' circuits from Crewe to Crewe via Chester, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Stafford took to the rails on a very warm and sunny 10th June 2018. having a free day for once and with Royal Scot at the head, there was little chance of me doing anything else so I drove down into deepest Cheshire for the first of 2 shots, at a small village called Alpraham, between Calveley and Beeston Castle on the Crewe-Chester route. I had originally planned to go to the foot crossing at Beeston however because I have used that shot 3 times in the last 4 years I decided to try something new. Being closer to Crewe I was hoping that 46100 would be putting some effort in (as usually by Beeston they aren't) and I wasn't disappointed, with the Scot roaring beneath the bridge right on time and doing around 65-70mph.
Doubling back up the A49 to Hartford, a 35 minute train ride to Stafford and a 1 1/4 mile walk from there took me to the second shot on Doxey Marsh, a large nature reserve just north of Stafford town centre. 46100 was booked for an 8 minute stop in platform 6 at Stafford station which it did do although in reality because of late running or non existent service trains it could have omitted this stop without delaying anything behind. Because of the stop though it did mean that the shot I did get was a noisy one with 46100 accelerating hard away along the down slow line towards Norton Bridge and Crewe.

English Civil War
The English Civil War was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians and Royalists in the Kingdom of England over, principally, the manner of its government. The first and second wars pitted the supporters of King Charles I against the supporters of the Long Parliament, while the third saw fighting between supporters of King Charles II and supporters of the Rump Parliament. The war ended with the Parliamentarian victory at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651.
