Principally, this temple is belongs to Buddhist character. The building which we see today, however, is probably the result of a renovation carried out in the 1340's in order from the Sumatran prince Adityawarman, a blood relative of Hayam Wuruk.
The temple, which faces to west, has a rectangular ground plan measuring 23 X 14 meters. Since the roof and much of the body of the main sanctuary have collapsed, it can only be estimated that the original height of the monument was about 15 meters. Access to the principal shrine is by two stairways, which lead up from the front of the building via three receding terraced levels, creating the illusion of ascending a mountain slope.

Jago Temple
Visit : | Jago temple is located at Jago village, sub district Tumpang, Regency Malang. It is about 22 km eastward from Malang city.
Candi Jago or Jago temple is a Hindu Buddhist temple and was built in period 1268-1280 to be a memorial to the fourth king of Singasari kingdom, the king Wisnuwardhana. He is the father of King Kertanegara, the last king of the Singasari Kingdom to whom the Singasari Temple was built.
The original name of this temple is Jajaghu. It means greatness as a name for a holy place. Javanese people have a unique custom. If they find a name too difficult then they adjust it to an easy one. Jajaghu is not easy to them. The easy one is Jago.
So this historical witness is known as Jago temple. In 1815 the Briton, who colonized Java at that time, found this heritage. 75 years later, in 1890 the next colonizer of Java, the Dutch, renovated it.
JAGO TAMPLE | Relics Of The Singasari Kingdom In Malang City East Java.
Jago Temple is located 22 kilometers east of Malang City, precisely in Jago Hamlet, Tumpang Village, Tumpang District, Malang Regency, East Java.
In the book Negarakertagama and pararaton, History of the Jago Temple was built since 1268 AD, and was only completed in 1280 AD. This temple was built to honor King Singasari, Sri Jaya Wisnuwardhana (1248 - 1268), the fourth king of the Singasari kingdom by his son and at the same time the king who ruled at that time, namely kertanegara king.
Jago Temple, according to Negarakretagama called Jajaghu, is a place where the king Wisnuwardhana or Ranggawuni was enthroned which involved the year 1190 C or around 1268 AD.
According to the Negarakertagama and Pararaton books, the name of this temple is actually Jajaghu. In the poem 41 gatra 4th Negarakertagama explained that King Wisnuwardhana who ruled Singasari adheres to Shiva Buddhism, which is a religious school which is a fusion of Hinduism and Buddhism.
The flow developed during the reign of the Kingdom of Singasari, a kingdom located about 20 km from Jago Temple. Jago Temple is filled with relief panels carved neatly from the feet to the top wall of the room. There are almost no blank fields, because all are filled with various ornaments in the fabric of stories that contain elements of the release of departure.
This reinforces the notion that the construction of the Jago Temple is closely related to the death of Sri Jaya Wisnuwardhana.
In accordance with the religion embraced by King Wisnuwardhana, namely Shiva Buddha, the reliefs at Jago Temple contain both Hindu and Buddhist teachings. Buddha's teachings are reflected in the reliefs of the Kamandaka Tantri story and the Kunjarakarna story carved on the lowest terrace. On the second porch wall, carved the Kunjarakarna story and Mahabarata excerpts containing Hindu teachings, namely Parthayajna and Arjuna Wiwaha. The third terrace is filled with further reliefs from the Arjunawiwaha story. The body walls of the temple are also filled with reliefs of Hindu stories, namely the battle of Krishna with Kalayawana.
In the center of the front court, about 6 m from the foot of the temple, there is a large stone carved into the shape of a giant statue mat, with a stone diameter of about 1 m. At its peak there is a lotus flower sculpture extending from the bulb.
On the west side of the temple's courtyard there is an eight-armed Amoghapasa statue as a symbol of the king of Sri Jaya Wisnuwardhana behind the back of a giant head-shaped throne. The head of the statue has disappeared and the arms have been broken.

Candi Jago - Tumpang Kabupaten Malang
Candi Jago letaknya di Kecamatan Tumpang - Kabupaten Malang. Sekitar 20 km arah timur Kota Malang.
Tetap ikuti saya menjelajahi Malang,

20060903 Exploring Malang (Indonesia)
We start the day with a ride on the Ijen Boulevard. Ijen is the mountainous area near Malang.
Beautiful mansions from the colonial period are still in use. Traffic here is always an interesting object because of its anticipating participants who exchange opportunities. No accident did we see.
Passing beneath the enormous shady wiringin trees near the Malang town hall we aim for Nelleke's first address after her birth in Malang. Nowadys the street is dupped after a military man. Thanks to an old city map from colonial times our guide Jon finds out where to find 'Nelleke's address.
The lady of the house is so nice to let us in and shows us around. Nelleke had hoped to get a remembrance from the months that she lived here by way of an odour for instance but in vain. The inner court of the house looks familiar with the pictures from the time that Nelleke lived here as a baby. So in the video these images are mingled with our present impressions.
After this visit we drive slowly along the military barracks of Malang where Nelleke's father served as a driving instructor. Our next aim is the local hospital but we postpone our visit. But anyway will find out whether Nelleke was born here.
Jon takes us to the Tugu Hotel a beautifully furnished Chinese hotel.
Then to the Malang Protestant Church where we'd like to find out whether Nelleke was baptized here. We are asked to return when the administrator will be present.
Walking in the centre of Malang to an old Dutch well kept restaurant we struck upon a traditional Javanese wedding and are invited to make pictures even inside the restaurant which appears to have beautiful Dutch ceramic tiles in its wainscots. How interesting the ceremony proceeds here so unlike west European traditions!
Then our route brings us to Songgoriti Batu, Coban Rondo which appears to be special for the people in East Java. A group of junior students are examined by their seniors near the waterfall. They chant, yell, then end the ceremony by splashing water over their seniors colleagues.
A jolly bunch of lads sing accompanied by two guitars and one conga. We meet them on the path from the waterfall and the fruit and lunch stalls.
Next we visit a tofu (or tahu) producer and see how simple this meat replacing product is being made.
Enjoy the beautiful country where roses are grown for export and bananas as well.
At home at Tante Nelly's we digest all impressions of today.

Sendang Biru & Sempu Island, East Java [Balekambang 4]
During my bicycle tour to the southern territory of Malang regency, I stayed 2 days in Sendang Biru, mainly to take rest. I didn't enjoy much of the environment. I will probably go back there to explore Sempu Island much further.
*
Sendang Biru Beach and Sempu Island Nature Reserve are managed by Indonesian Government Ministry of Forestry. A simple yet decent motel, containing only 3 rooms, is available for rent at USD 10 per night. Camping ground is available in both places, but exploring and staying in Sempu Island requires a special permission that can be obtained from the authorized official. All we have to do to obtain the permission is admission and willingness to comply with all rules applied in conserving Sempu Island.
