Church in So China Catholic church in Fuzhou
It's interesting to see how the winds of time have come and gone so many times and yet some of these old church buildings remain the same just waiting.
I'm a translator and interpreter in south China. I've made a hobby of traveling around to various old churches in Southern China; and I make videos of them. I've got about 30 videos and will be slowly uploading them over time. VPN connections in China (which are necessary if you want to access youtube from behind the Chinese government's firewall) are rather slow when uploading (and not great when downloading either) ... so if you check back for translated church-related videos please be patient .....

This is the Catholic Cathedral Nanjing, located on Shigu (Stone Drum) Road. This is a very historical part of Nanjing, the former capital of China. During the Ming Dynasty about 600 years ago, the great Jesuit evangelist Matteo Ricci visited this city and decided to build a church on this site. When the church was built, the Chinese Emperor has decided to shift his capital to Beijing in the north of China. Nevertheless, this still serves as one of the earliest churches in China. Burnt down and/or destroyed several times, and then rebuilt in a style grander than before each time, the Shigu Road Cathedral as it's commonly known as, is a major focal point for Christians between the late Qing dynasty and the early days of the Republic era. The building you see now is the latest version of the church rebuilt in the late 1970s after the devastating Cultural Revolution. It was repainted and renovated just a few years back. Obviously, the Cathedral is now not only enjoying a fresh coat of paint but also a new lease of life as the young in China becomes more interested in the message of Christ.

I believe the God is everywhere, so God can penetrate China. If God is in Jamaica and America, God is in China. And it is not a matter of the Pope approving the church, God is the one that has to approve the church. And the spirit of God is definitely in this church.

STORYLINE:
Christians gathered in Beijing's oldest church on Saturday to celebrate Christmas Day.
More than 200 Christians from around the world joined Chinese Christians in for morning mass in South Cathedral, the oldest church in Beijing.
The service was held in English and given by Chinese and foreign priests.
One Jamaican Christian attending the mass commented on the tense relationship between China and Vatican doesn't affect the sense of blessing in the church.
I believe the God is everywhere, so God can penetrate China. If God is in Jamaica and America, God is in China, said Shejee Wilson, said.
Relations between China and the Vatican have long been tense since China forced its Roman Catholics to cut ties with the Vatican in 1951, shortly after the communist seizure of power.
While the sides have sought to narrow the difference through dialogue, a main sticking point remains the Chinese church's insistence that it, not Rome, have the right to appoint bishops.
Despite the lack of diplomatic ties with the Vatican, the Catholic church has thrived in China over recent decades alongside Protestant sects that are also closely regulated by the government.
Officially, China has more than 6 (m) million Catholics, up from just over 2 (m) million before the 1949 revolution.
