Jimi Hendrix Shrine - Vancouver BC
The building sits next to the former location of Vie's Chicken and Steaks, a fried chicken restaurant Jimi's grandmother, Nora Hendrix, worked at for some of the time it was around. The shrine structure was once a storage building for Vie's and was part of the property. Thanks to Ian Alexander for clarifying the history of the structure. Vie was Ian’s paternal grandmother and ran the restaurant from the late 40's to the mid 60's. Ian also remembers Nora frequenting the restaurant over the years. “After Gran's(Vie) passing, the restaurant was eventually sold, and the building burned down not long after that. We saw many black celebrities (Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Miss Lena, etc.) over many visits.”
Jimi's father James Allen Al Hendrix was born in Vancouver and on occasion Jimi would live with his grandmother in Vancouver and go to school nearby. In 1949 Jimi attended grade 1 at the West End’s Dawson Annex
The area around this part of Vancouver was called Hogan's Alley and had a number of Vancouver's black businesses. Most of it was torn down to build the start of Vancouver's freeway system, a freeway system that was never built.

The Jimi Hendrix Shrine in Vancouver
Located at 207 Union St, Vancouver, this cozy little place was where Jimi's grandma ran her restaurant. Jimi would come down frequently and play his jam under this roof as well on the street outside. Volunteers keep this place alive and public donations support the cause financially.

a day in the walk along main street in vancouver. I was simply strolling for an hour, and took random photos. The use of the song puts power to the images, if this contravenes anything, I'll gladly remove. It is my first attempt at using my photographs in video.
