Mustang Travel Vlog | Jomsom, Marpha, Muktinath Temple & 108 sacred taps
Me and my family planned to do Pokhara-Jomsom in one day and same while returning. From Pokhara, Jomsom is just 45 minutes flight away but flights may be delayed or cancelled because of poor weather conditions. We arranged a private 4x4 jeep, which took us 9 hours. Local microbuses are available from Pokhara-Beni-Ghasa-Tatopani-Jomsom but will take 13 to 15 hours. Riding a motorbike is the best option to reach Jomsom due to the rocky off road in places.
In Jomsom, there are numerous hotels, homestay, restaurants and souvenir shop. We stayed in Hotel Mustang Taj and Thakali Kitchen. I had the best Thakali meal ever and I would highly recommend Thakali crusine.
Marpha Village in Mustang District
Marpha is known famously as the apple capital of Nepal, with brandy, cider and jams produced from local fruits. The village homes are made from white stones, whereas doors and windows are outlined by cherrywood panels.
Visit The Holy Muktinath Temple
The holy site of Muktinath is sacred to both hindus and buddhists. Visitors will be offered a red tika to their forehead in blessing. Animal-headed spouts spitting holy water. The temple is about an hour hike from the car parking area in the village of ranipauwa or you can hire a pony to take you up.

Nepal has 14 zones, one of them is Dhaulagiri zone, and it includes Mustang district, a mountainous district of Nepal, where the 5th Dham (pilgrimage) of the Hindus, one major Shakti Peeth out of 51 others, is located. Thousands of pilgrims visit Muktinath every year. The bus journey begins from Kathmandu via Thankot, and from there, one has to pass hundreds of beautiful bends, alongside the bank of the Trishuli River on the Prithivi Highway. Advancing further towards Kurintar, the only cable car station in Nepal, to Muglin travelling past Dumre and Damauli you arrive at Pokhara in some six hours, the gateway to the Temple of Muktinath.
It is believed that Muktinath Darshan cleanses all the sin knowingly or unknowingly committed in life. Muktinath is a common pilgrimage site for the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Jains, and the Vaishanab .Most pilgrims to visit Muktinath are the Indians. However, an equal number of overseas pilgrims make their destination to Muktinath every year. Known for the largest number of taps, 108, Muktinath bath is believed to bestow upon the pilgrims the eternal peace in life. Usually pilgrims first take the holy bath at these taps and then go for the Darshan of Muktinath Temple. As per the Hindu scripts, whosoever performs Śrāddha (Memorial) in the name of their deceased ancestors, they would attain salvation to not repeat life thereafter.
Westward to Muktinath Temple lies the famous Jwalamai temple, quite adjacent. Related to various religious stories, we can see the eternal flame flashing and flickering atop the water surface in the temple. The Jwalamai temple is another attraction of Muktinath. The holy pilgrimage to Muktinath Temple and its vicinities return via Jomsom, Pokhara and then to Kathmandu which marks the end of the Yatra.
Annapurna Circuit & Sanctuary trekking, Nepal
In Nov 2010, Dan & CB hired a private car from Kathmandu to Besisahar to trek the circuit for two weeks crossing over the high pass to Jomoson. From there, we took the bus down to Tatopani Hot Springs for a short rest then cut over to the Annapurna South Base Camp trail for another ten-day trek, exiting at Birethanti. Hired a cab to Pokhara.

Amazing Nepal : Plane Takes off at the Lukla Airport : Summit International Travels & Tours
Lukla Airport, the gateway to the Everest region, has been ranked eighth among the world's top 10 stunning and inspirational airport approaches by PrivateFly.com.
The private jet-booking agency based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire has suggested its 10 recommended airports to adventure lovers as A View to a Thrill.
The surrounding terrain, thin air, highly changeable weather and the airport's short, sloping runway make it one of the most challenging landings in the world. History Channel's Most Extreme Airports programme has ranked Lukla as the most dangerous airport in the world.
Lukla is a 35-minute flight from Kathmandu. It is the busiest domestic airport in the country, handling more than 50 flights daily during the tourist season. Only short take off and landing (STOL) airplanes can land at Lukla.
The runway is 351 m long and rises over 30 m from the bottom to the top, giving it an angle of about 10 degrees. The airport lies at an elevation of 2,800 m.
It was built in the 1960s with the support of Sir Edmund Hillary.
In January 2008, the airport was renamed Tenzing-Hillary Airport in honour of the first Everest summitters.
PrivateFly.com has named Sion Airport in Switzerland the perfect touchdown at Europe's most stunning airport. St. Maarten-Princess Juliana Airport in the Netherlands was placed third.
St. Barts in the Caribbean, Gibraltar, St. Gallen-Altenrhein in Switzerland, Madeira Funchal in Portugal and London City airport come after Lukla as the most thrilling and adventurous airports.

Beazley, Lassoie, Himalaya
Roads are the essential building blocks of economic development. Without roads, there can be no hydro projects, no electricity or telephone towers, and limited access to health care institutions and quality education. But what are the environmental, socioeconomic, and sociocultural impacts of expanding rural road networks? In a Chats in the Stacks book talk at Mann Library on September 7, 2017, Robert E. Beazley and James P. Lassoie present the findings of fieldwork in remote mountain areas of the Nepalese Himalaya to highlight the impact of recent road development on the environment, the economy, and local cultural practices in the region. While road construction can have important economic value for mountain communities, factors of geology, environment and political economy specific to the country pose particular challenges and obstacles to realizing these benefits.
Robert Beazley is a PhD candidate in the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University. As a Master’s student, Robert trekked 18,000 feet into the Nepalese Himalaya to observe how rural mountain communities survive in difficult environments. He has since returned to Nepal’s Rasuwa district as a Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Abroad Fellow to investigate gendered mobility and borderland infrastructure.
James P. Lassoie is a Professor in the Department of Natural Resources and an International Professor of Conservation in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. Trained as a forest ecologist, since joining the Cornell faculty and extension community in 1976 Prof. Lassoie has been closely involved in community-based conservation science and management in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and North America. He is the current Director of Graduate Studies for the Field of Global Development at Cornell, and also holds a professor appointment in the State Key Laboratory of Seedling Bioengineering at the Ningxia Forest Institute in Yinchuan, Ningxia.
Over the Himalaya : best of HD aerials
Fly over Everest, Makalu, Jhomolhari / Chomolhari, Kanchenjunga and more - see the highest peaks in the world from this picture perfect aerial footage collection, shot from 35, 000 feet in the air, on a crisp and clear winter day, as our Wilderness Films India team flew across the Himalaya to get you this stunning footage!
That black peak dominating the landscape, with mostly rock on it, is Sagamartha or Chomolongma - in common parlance - Everest!
This is first time ever coverage of such clarity and crispness - experience the Himalaya up close and personal in 4K HD, without the wind and the cold. Look across the Tibetan plateau to Shishapangma and the ranges beyond, as well!
At 0:12, you can see Makalu.
At 0:26, you can see Pumori which in Nepalese means 'My daughter'. You can also see the edge of Chang Tse.
At 0:41, to the slight left lies Lhotse and to the slight right lies Lhotse shar. Shar means south and so the word sherpas or sharpas came from shar meaning people of the south.
At 0:52, you can see Makalu again.
Then at 2:52, you can see Siniolchu.
At 4:21 you see Lhotse and Lhotse shar again. To the left lies Nuptse and behind Nuptse is Changtse. To the front left is Ama Dablam and before this peak lies Kangtega.
At 4:51, in the middle lies Thamserku with Kangtega to the right and Ama Dablam all in a row. Then at the top range in the middle is Gyanchung Kang and Pumori lurking somewhere in the centre. Kangtega translates into saddle, in Tibetan.
Then at 5:32, lies Pumori to the left of Mt. Everest and Cho Oyu further to the left and Gyanchung Kang to the immediate left of Everest.
At 5:57, we suspect lies Gauri Shankar. Do confirm if you are sure of this and let us know!
Then, at 7:03 is Manaslu.
At 8:53 are Jannu, Pandim and Kabru in a line.
