Visiting a Secret Cave in Wilderness, South Africa
After hearing about an abandoned cave restaurant - since converted into a squatting complex - we hiked along deserted rail tracks to visit Kaaiman's Grotto in Wilderness, South Africa.

Visiting a Secret Cave in Wilderness, South Africa Travel Video Transcript:
So it is another beautiful day here in Wilderness. And today we are hiking out to some caves. Now these are very special caves because apparently they had built a restaurant into these caves and then the business failed and the place basically shutdown but a man moved into the restaurant in this cave and apparently he has turned it into a squatting complex where homeless people can come and stay. And he takes care of them. These are all just rumors we've been hearing from locals so we thought 'hey' let's go check it out ourselves. So that is where we are going today.
And to get there we are walking along the abandoned rail tracks. Alright, lead the way.
So it would appear that these tracks haven't been in use for a really long time. And some of the rock has just fallen over top and vegetation has grown over it but there is a way around. Lucky for us.
Oooh! So we've reached the entrance of the tunnel. Apparently we need to go through here. And it looks dark and spooky.
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo.
So that was incredible. We just got a tour from the man who runs this place. And basically it is a shelter for homeless people. He takes them in for two weeks and tries to give them a place where they can live. He feeds them. And just helps them get back on their feet. They have to go out and look for work while they are staying here. And it is just beautifully decorated. They've put a lot of detail into each of the rooms. And there is just a lot of character and personality, so it is a really funky place to check out. I liked it.
You can continue hiking along the bridge to the dolphin's nose and that will take you to Vic Bay. But we're really hungry right now so we're heading back in for lunch.

Kaaimans River Wilderness (Cinematic Sunday/Monday EP 8)
A place that has taken over the business side of my brain for the last year and a bit. I plan on trying to make a space where one can come and reset after a stressful time. A place where health, fitness and friendship is the epicentre of the WHY behind the project. A place where creators, artists, entrepreneurs and businessmen can come to think, create and enjoy. To be honest the more time I spend down there I can't see why you wouldn't want to even get married down there.
Im back to my roots, back to the place I love, back to where I eventually call this my full time home and work but for now, here is a SHORT cinematic Monday episode of this beautiful place!

Kayaking Down the Touw River - Wilderness, South Africa
Just a wee video - too windy to fly yesterday so hired a kayak and paddled up the Touw river, then walked up stream to the waterfall and had a quick dip. Had the river to myself, as most folk were put off with the high winds.

A deadly bacteria in the Kaaimans River at Wilderness, near George
The Eden District Municipality in the Southern Cape is taking steps to combat a deadly bacteria, in the Kaaimans River at Wilderness, near George. The bacteria, which is transmitted from shellfish into open wounds, has already caused the death of an elderly man who went swimming in the river recently. SANParks and other environmental agencies are on full alert following the discovery of the bacteria.

A WEEKEND AWAY IN WILDERNESS
When you work in an office, there’s all the more reason to get yourself outdoors on the weekend. So my friends and I took a road trip from Cape Town to Wilderness along the garden route of South Africa. We were lucky enough to find a cottage on the edge of the Kaaimans river valley. I wanted to show this place off and all of the activities it has: forest hikes, waterfalls, canoeing and surfing at Vic bay. Here it is.. check it out and let me know what you think!

Fishing the Garden Route
Two weeks of light tackle fishing for kob/kabeljou, garrick/leervis, grunter and elf/shad in the rivers, lagoons and estuaries of the Southern Cape of South Africa. All fish were released to fight another day.

Kaaimans River Railway Bridge landmark of the year
The historic value of one of the most famous landmarks in South Africa, the Kaaimansrivier Railway Bridge was acknowledged at an event that took place yesterday (Wednesday 9 October). The bridge between George and Wilderness, that can also be described as one of the most photographed structures in South Africa, was awarded the 2019 National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark of the Year. Melvin Naik, George mayor attended the event. Read more:
