Oscar: Kaimanawa Colt
Two weeks after the Kaimanawa Wild Horse Muster, in New Zealand's central North Island, Oscar, the young Colt, is transitioning to farm life.
Oscar's owner Kelly writes about his journey....
Oscar has graduated from his yard to a lovely paddock with fresh grass. He wasn't so sure about the taste at first - just nibbling as he goes.
Oscar amazes us with his quite, accepting nature - he has adapted so well to this new environment, the sounds, people and animals after coming off the Kaimanawa ranges.
Now eating chaff mixed with cider vinegar from a bucket and our hands, Oscar allows us to stand close to him but he isn't ready for us to touch him yet.
He is intrigued with our my friend Janine's dog and they like to sniff each other through the fence.
As we muck out and wash out the yard he is happy to stand near us and be part of whatever is going on. For his first adventure into the paddock he was escorted by our Desert Princess Kaimanawa pony Eden.
Both myself and my daughter Amelia look forward to what he teaches us next. A very rewarding journey is ahead.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Bay of Islands Vintage Railway - HD
We take a quick look at the Bay Of Islands Vintage Railway (BOIVR), located in Kawakawa, Northland, New Zealand.
The railway operates Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and every day during the school holidays. The line runs 4.5km to Taumarere, just a portion of how the line previously ran to Opua in the Bay of Islands. However, this targeted will one day be reached again, as volunteers are working hard to repair the many bridges and the Whangae tunnel.
We had a look at this interesting scenic railway on a rainy Friday 12th October 2014. Gabriel, both the railway's and Kawakawa's icon, was seen running the trains.
