Art is an incredible expression of culture, people, memories and creative articulation for all ages. Kamloops has the principal gallery for visual arts in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. Escape from the busy day-to-day happenings for an hour or two and be immersed in an atmosphere of inspired creations.
As a regional institution focusing on contemporary visual art practices, Kamloops Art Gallery demonstrates a high degree of curatorial integrity by maintaining a strong commitment to the community and to local and regional artists. By responding to a diversity of interests and concerns, Kamloops Art Gallery contributes to the cultural climate of the region while bringing Kamloops into a broader discussion nationally and internationally.
The Gallery has four distinct exhibition spaces, each focusing on different types of art and artists. From regional to international, from the student to the master, there is always a broad range of styles and mediums of art to view - and sometimes purchase. Three of the four spaces have free admission.

Donald Lawrence Comet Installation at Kamloops Art Gallery - Thompson Rivers University (TRU)
TRU Visual Arts professor Donald Lawrence’s “Comet MMXVIII” is now on display atop the TNRD Civic Building, beckoning patrons to the Kamloops Art Gallery and Library. The comet was originally created as a temporary display for the 2018 Luminosity exhibition, a biennial outdoor event organized by the gallery that reaches through downtown to Riverside Park. Lawrence created the physical structure to be viewed at night, complementing the event’s large scale video projection displays.

The name Kamloops actually means meeting of the waters - because it is where the North and the South Thompson Rivers come together.
Now, it can be where you come together with your future success.
A city of about 85,000, Kamloops is conveniently located at the junction of three major highways and an airport, and is just hours away from major hubs in BC, Alberta and the United States (and maybe even the place you call home.) A few more things you may find interesting about Kamloops:
Warm and dry: Kamloops has the third lowest annual rainfall in all of Canada and over 2,000 hours of sunshine annually
Affordable living: on average, Kamloops has a much lower cost of living than larger cities
Great skiing, great lakes, great hikes: Sun Peaks and Harper Mountain ski resorts are both less than an hour’s drive from campus and offer world-class skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. And in spring, hike along trails in the nearby hills and visit Shuswap Lake – a summer paradise for water-skiing, boating, camping and more.
