Moving to Kansas City | The Well Bar & Grill
Hello and welcome to the Dwell Kansas City daily briefing on what it is to live in and enjoy or when you're moving to Kansas City. I’m “Local Jay” Swearingen.
The feel of fireplace weather is in the air. With a bit of that Indian summer teasing us, the snap, crackle and pop of an open fire pit or indoor fireplace isn't far behind.
The local establishments that have successfully integrated the ambience of an open fire are numerous, but one of the Briefing's favorites is also a roof-top venue -- the Well Bar, Grill and Rooftop in Waldo.
The Well is a multi-level restaurant with a lower level patio and rooftop deck that complement the casual atmosphere inside. The detail and thought that went into The Well gives the place a curious upscale feel.. with neighborhood accessibility.
Located about two miles south of the Plaza, The Well's menu is varied. While American in breadth, it's the Latin influence that tops most people's tabs. Touting its Baja Fish Tacos, Creole Pasta and Tequila Lime Smokin' Chicken Nachos, The Well also stakes a claim on its freshly tossed salads.
Cashing in on the Tiki craze, The Well has made a splash with its Cane Bay Cooler, a concoction straight from the Tropic of Capricorn that combines white rum, pineapple juice and mint lime syrup.
This time of year, Sundays are reserved for football fun days, which you can watch at The Well while languishing over their six-course brunch.
But opportunities for a new experience avail themselves daily at the Well.
Specifically, the restaurant has different menu and drink specials every night, but we're endeared, as you might expect to Thursday nights when the kitchen serves up the S'Mac N Cheese, while the bar rolls out five dollar drink specials featuring spirits from Kansas City's local distilleries, including J. Reiger's Applewood Smoked KC Whiskey and KC Smoked Bitters adding the appropriate bite to Doc's Old Fashion.
Speaking of Thursday nights, The Well lets its hair down on weekends -- which as every Dweller knows, starts on Thursday around here-- frequently spotlighting live local music and deejays on the deck.
Check the calendar at WaldoWell.com to see who's playing this weekend. From Zack Mufasa to the Zeros, the Well jams with fare that's family-friendly and an ambience straight outta Waldo.
I’m “Local Jay” Swearingen, Marybelle’s favorite Realtor, and this daily briefing is brought to you by Dwell Kansas City Residential Real Estate. You can find us on Facebook and Instagram @Dwell Kansas City.
Thanks for joining us, that is very much appreciated – and we’ll see you tomorrow.

KCPT & KC Studio: Cary Esser
More than 200 clay-based exhibitions will be open to the public this week, as NCECA, the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts holds its annual conference in Kansas City March 16-20. It’s the groups 50th, and Kansas City’s fourth time to host.
Cary Esser, Professor and Chair of Ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute had been on the job for seven years when NCECA last came to town in 2002. A lot has changed since then, and she’s excited for her peers to have a chance to experience it in person. As part of our ongoing collaboration with KC Studio Magazine, producer Randy Mason and videographer Dave Burkhardt peeked in on Cary at her studio in the Belger Craneyard complex.
KCPT partners with KC Studio, a magazine that covers Kansas City’s performing, visual, cinematic and literary arts, and the artists, organizations and patrons that make Kansas City a vibrant center for arts and culture.
