THE GLOWING BIO BAY IN VIEQUES PUERTO RICO
Mosquito Bay or Bio Bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico is an amazing place. It is the brightest glowing bioluminescent bay in the world. I jumped on a few kayak tours during the night of a new moon and saw this incredible light show.
Honestly, it was more amazing that I imagined. I had read a review or two, but wasn't sure if it was worth the trip to the island. It was. The bay is extremely bright, and until now, it was very hard to capture on camera. I recently picked up a Sony a7s which is a beast in low light, and was impressed with that it could capture. This has rarely ever been caught on Camera.
The government is doing a good job at keeping this place pristine. In some areas of the world you can jump in, splash around, use gasoline engines, and generally just destroy the ecosystem these little guys live in. Here in Vieques, Puerto Rico, you are not allowed to swim, or use gasoline. Nearby light pollution has to be kept to a minimum, and there give Bio Bay some days off now and again to recover. This is probably why it remains the brightest in the world. High Five for sustainable eco tourism. I wish everywhere was this forward thinking.
This was one of my best travel experiences. Like I said, it's worth the trip!

Kayaking Vieques Bio Bay and other adventures
Another video from our summer trip to Vieques. Playa Caracas was nice, but the area we went to wasn't the best for snorkeling. We didn't explore all the areas there though.
Kayaking in the bio-bay was great. You can't see the glow with the cameras we are using, but you can with your eyes while doing it. Fun Brothers gave us a discount as there are 8 in the family- that was nice of them. They were very courteous and user-friendly- we recommend them.
Lunch at Bananas in the town of Esperanza was pretty good- though very pricey. Also, power and communications go out frequently (not all back online after Hurricane Maria a year ago), so take cash everywhere you go.

Vieques Puerto Rico Snorkeling and Kayaking 2016
February 2016 trip to Vieques Island in Puerto Rico. Snorkeling, kayaking, and asking the woman I love to marry me. The fish were amazing. Look close, they are in almost every clip! La Platita and La Playa Beach are amazing. It was like having a private beach with a coral reef. We drive through the city of Esperanza in the beginning. Awesome food, people and atmosphere there.

Vieques Island Kayak Fly Fishing - Island Dub Session
Info & Reservations:
GUIDED KAYAK FISHING in our Wilderness Tarpon 120 kayaks.
The kayak gives any fisherman, regardless of style, a stealthy edge to fishing. Kayaking around the island of Vieques gives the adventurous fisherman a chance to approach the sport from a whole new parallel.
Sunrise paddle is the way we start as we head out to the fishing spot, return around lunch time and head to a local eatery to taste some Puerto Rican fare. Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook and the elusive Permit are all fish we will target on the fly. Bigger tackle and sinking line for bigger fish in deeper water will really get your adrenaline pumping! You can expect to mix-it-up a bit with trolling, crank baits and fly-rods for hot sight casting when available.
Tarpon are my favorite fish to hook up in a kayak, just about anything in the jack family is fun. The flats and mangroves are home to the large, spooky and mostly solitary bone fish who tail the stingrays while sweeping the flats for food.
On the edges of the shelf drop-off we'll hunt for the Permit (AKA rubber lips) who like to make a ghostly appearance. These fish are a sight to see let alone catch.
Some of the best snorkeling is available to you by paddling the Vieques coast in a Kayak and just jumping over the side. With so many beaches and coastlines to see and explore, you'll have a comfortable ride in one of our Wilderness Tarpon 120's with full back support and foot pegs.
Get hooked on KAYAK FLY- FISHING you won't be able to wait to do it again!

Biobay Mosquito Bay on Vieques island, Puerto Rico. Bioluminescent dinoflagellates amazingness
We did a nighttime kayak tour, on an extra dark night due to being near the new moon, on Mosquito Bay on Vieques island, Puerto Rico. The bioluminescent dinoflagellates were indeed absolutely amazing...video can 't come close to capturing it! But I did get some fuzzy footage on high gain, and some glimpses on low gain.

A 2-day trip to the unspoiled Caribbean island of Vieques, Puerto Rico, for an evening kayak adventure to the bio-bay, and trips to Playa Negrita and Playa de la Chiva (Blue Beach).
Vieques, one of the two Spanish Virgin Islands (the other being Puerto Rico's Isla Culebra), is a special place of dozens of deserted white-sand beaches, one special black sand beach, 100s of horses roaming free and not one single corporate chain to speak of.
