Weedon Island Kayak Trail & Mangrove Tunnels - St Petersburg, FL
See Through Canoeing through the mangrove tunnels at Weedon Island in St. Petersburg, FL. We had the whisper quiet motor on the canoe. The trail is well marked with numbered signs along the way. The 2nd half of the trail is still in sheltered water, but the trail opens up and there's always a good chance of seeing dolphin or manatees on this part of the kayak trail. It is best paddled at 1' or higher above mean tide.

Kayaking with Alligators on the Myakka River - Florida
Gators all over the place on this quick trip down the Myakka River. More gators than I know what to do with. I'm not gonna lie, this will get the heart rate up. You never know what's around the next turn. About 10 years ago I kayaked the Myakka River from Myakka City to Charlotte Harbor for the first time. That's when I first encountered this tremendous population of gators. I've been back a few times since and it never ceases to amaze me.

Kayaking Casey Key - part 1
SW FL Paddling Club & friends launch at Casey Key, next to Florida's oldest swing bridge - then paddle to Oscar Scherer State Park for a lunch break.
Camping Oscar Scherer State Campground Close To Siesta Key Beach, & St Armands Circle For Cheap!
Travel Blog:
After the Keys we headed north to Siesta Key/Sarasota Area. Siesta Key Beach regularly wins the award for the best beach in the USA. Yet, we had never visited this area even though home was only 2.5 hours away. After seeing the beach and Siesta Key it is easy to see why this beach regularly wins awards and recently placed fifth in the world.
With such praise comes expensive prices. Everyone wants to see the white sugar sand that Siesta Key offers. However, we were able to camp just 10 minutes away at Oscar Scherer State Campground for only $26 a night. All sites offered water & Electric and there was a dump station on site.
Oscar Scherer Campground offered plenty of hiking/trails to explore, a lake, and even a little creek which could be paddled in a kayak. However, we opted to take our new Advanced Elements Inflatable Kayak out to Siesta Key Beach for a little paddling. Turtle Beach Park, just a few miles down from the public beach on Siesta Key offers Boat & Kayak Launch. The sandy launch area made for the perfect spot to test out our blow up kayak for the first time. The Advanced Elements held up perfectly as we paddled about 30-45 minutes south towards Kayak Beach. This is a little beach area where you can park your kayak and cross over a small sand dune to a virtually private beach. This is only accessible via kayak or boat, so you're likely to have the whole plaice to yourself.
