Crabbing On The Oregon Coast at Kelly's Brighton Marina
If you're on the Oregon coast and you're looking for something new, Kelly's Brighton Marina is the spot. Check them out here:
I grew up fishing in the Midwest, and while I like to eat crab, I don’t know the first thing about how to catch one.
That’s why the trip to Kelly’s Brighton Marina was so exciting. I had no idea what to expect. When you walk up to the shop it feels like a theme park. Kelly has spent the time to make this place unique. There are wood cutouts everywhere for fun photo opportunities. He also has a great selection of craft beer and plenty of picnic tables for hanging out either before or after your crabbing adventure. It’s a very welcoming atmosphere.
We met Kelly and let me tell you, he’s a character. Every once in awhile you meet someone and realize that they are doing what they were born to do. Kelly is that guy. He’s very good at what he does (to the point where it seems effortless), he’s relaxing to be around, and he’s hilarious. After we got the basic rundown from him, it was time for some crabbing on the Oregon coast!

CATCHING CRABS | That Adventurer
We travelled up the Oregon Coast from Brookings in the South to Canon Beach. Along the way we stopped at Kelly's Brighton Marina to go crabbing and we managed to catch a big crab which he cooked up for us right there in the marina. It was the best crab I've ever eaten!

Dungeness Crabs off the Oregon Coast near Newport
Nehalem Bay, OR Crabbing Trip
We rented a boat from Kellys Marina for a day of crabbing. It was New Years, 2016 and temperatures were in the high 30's.
Jetty fishery.wmv
Jetty Fishery, Highway 101 Rockaway Oregon...
What has happened with business owners during a time of recession? I went to the Jetty Fishery for an outdoor karaoke event, drinking is allowed and during the event yes I got a little drunk. Early in the night, my 19 year old daughter was also there, she left her purse at home and the owner told her she was not allowed to smoke if she could not produce some ID (when did business owners become the local police?) There was a couple with us who had a child with them, this child threw a fit and immediately they left and took her home. This child was not mine nor under my control, and the problem was immediately fixed... How many of us have had children who throw fits occasionally?
I was up with my 21 year old son talking around the camp fire (last I knew that's what you did when you camped), there was another camper who had joined us and the owner came to the site and told him he was not supposed to be there that he had a different site and he was asked to leave our site. We were playing music so quietly that we couldn't hear it and again the owner came and complained about it so we shut off our music altogether (we then asked the campers around us if we were bothering them and all of them said no). The owner called the police on us and a police officer showed up, she wanted us kicked out of the campsite that we had paid for the police officer then looked at her and said she is drinking I can't make her leave. I told the officer we would just go to bed and leave in the morning. And that is what we did, however some owners feel childish games are necessary...
We were woke up in the morning with loud cars revving their engines, one of the workers had parked his truck next to our tent and blasted his music. Finally they brought over their trachoe and parked it on a hill with the bucket on the ground and the jacks propping up the wheels and left it in reverse next to our camp site for over an hour. I did record all of this on video and you can find my evidence on you tube at this link:
When I confronted her that morning her response to me was that everyone complained about us, when I tried to talk to her when I was sober she told me that I needed to pay more money because there were 5 more people who stayed at my site... However, the police officer can attest to the fact that it was me and my son. Her response to the music and trachoe beeping was that they were listening to music and working however there was no one around the heavy equipment? Hmmm...... I can own my responsibility and if I was to loud I appologize to everyone, however when did two wrongs make a right?
So here is my question to the owner why would you throw a big party at your place of business, collect all kinds of money and then turn around and try to kick people who you know are drunk out of there? Do you encourage drinking and driving? I paid for a camp site because I don't drink and drive...
